    Consultant – Bone Health and Ageing

    Purpose of consultancy

    To contribute to WHO’s technical work envisaged for developing the strategy roadmap to prevent fracture and fracture risk among older persons. 

    Deliverables

    The consultant will work closely with the WHO Collaborating Center for Epidemiology of Musculoskeletal Health and Ageing and collaborate with the senior researchers to conduct technical activities required for the deliverables listed below. 

    Task 1: Contribute to a systematic review of measurement properties of instruments to assess the risk of fractures in older persons.
    Due date: June – August 2023     

    • Deliverable 1: Draft a systematic review protocol for discussion with the expert working group.
    • Deliverable 2: Collect inputs from the WHO Bone Health Expert Working Group and revise the protocol for publication in a peer-review journal. 
    • Deliverable 3: Conduct a systematic review and synthesis of evidence on measurement properties of instruments to assess the risk of fracture in older persons.

    Task 2: Contribute to a systematic review of interventions to prevent fractures in older persons.
    Due date: December 2023     

    • Deliverable 1: Draft systematic review protocol for discussion with the WHO Bone Health Working Group.
    • Deliverable 2: Collect inputs from the WHO Bone Health Expert Working Group and revise the protocol for publication in a peer-review journal. 
    • Deliverable 3: Conduct a systematic literature search and identify relevant intervention studies. 

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • First university degree in public health.

    Desirable:

    • Advanced university degree in epidemiology.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • 5 years of relevant experience in musculoskeletal conditions and ageing.
    • Research experience in low and middle-income countries. 
    • Track record of conducting literature reviews, evidence synthesis, data analysis, documentation and implementation.

    Desirable:

    • Experience in epidemiological research on musculoskeletal conditions and ageing.
    • Experience in global health estimates (e.g., meta-analysis of prevalence and incidence data).

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Excellent knowledge of WHO tools and guidelines on older persons. 
    • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications including e-mail, PowerPoint, Excel, and word processing.
    • Excellent knowledge of STATA or R software.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
    • Excellent knowledge of process, method and reporting of global health estimates.
    • Excellent epidemiological and statistical skills in multi-country data analysis. 

    Languages required:

    Essential:  

    • Expert knowledge of English. 
    • Intermediate knowledge of French.

    Consultant - DDI Web Focal Point

    Purpose of consultancy

    To contribute developing web products like the digital version of the World Health Statistics, maintaining the web presence of multiple DDI teams up to date,  designing pages for publication launches for programmes in HQ/regions,  loading and modifying entries in the indicator metadata registry (IMR), and assisting in the upkeep of the Global health observatory

    Deliverables

    • Deliverable 1: Develop and update all DDI web pages on the WHO corporate website.    
      • 1.1: Contribute to the structural design and layout of DDI content by supporting the design and implementation of wireframes, templates, etc.
      • 1.2: Provide technical guidance to DDI staff members in the area of web content management. 
      • 1.3: Develop the World Health Statistics online publication.
    • Deliverable 2: Keep charts, maps and data tables up to date as indicators are updated in the Global Health Observatory.
    • Deliverable 3: Create and update the entries of the Indicator Metadata Registry using knowledge of health indicators with a view of the totality of the collection.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • First-level university degree in journalism, technical writing, or related field. 
    • Training in Sitefinity CMS. 
    • A certification in web project or web content management. 

    Experience

    Essential:

    • At least 5 years of relevant experience in web content management and design, as well as working with multiple technical groups.

    Desirable:

    • Experience in working with UN organizations.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Demonstrated ability to create, edit, publish and maintain content using Sitefinity.  
    • Knowledge of WHO standard procedures and rules for content editing, maps, press releases, etc.  
    • Demonstrated design and layout skills for the arrangement and setup of web pages.  
    • Proactive communication skills.  
    • Ability to work with multiple technical groups/units to produce a single deliverable.  
    • Expertise in working with health indicators’ metadata.  
    • Demonstrated ability to write and edit HTML and CSS.  
    • Demonstrated ability to process a visualization in PowerBI or Tableau.  
    • Ability to interact with web-services APIs such as OData, to embed media objects in web pages, and process JSON objects. 
    • Expertise in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). 
    • Familiar with image editing tools, social networking platforms and Web Analytics.

    Consultant – Provision of Legal Services

    Purpose of consultancy

    The consultant will provide legal advice on corporate and contractual matters including the Host Agreement between WHO and France relating to the WHO Academy, as well as the negotiation and drafting of various specific contracts in domains related to WHO’s public heath work. 

    Deliverables

    • Deliverable 1: Host Country Agreement between WHO and France relating to the WHO Academy.  Expected by 31 December 2023
    • Deliverable 2: Negotiate and draft various contracts relating to information technology, research and development, funding, intellectual property in areas related to WHO’s public health work. 

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Advanced degree in law, with a specialization in commercial law. Must be admitted as a practicing attorney to the Bar. 

    Desirable: 

    • Legal studies of more than one legal system.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • At least seven years of experience practicing commercial law, in an international organization, law firm, international financial institution with a focus on public health and an emphasis on the negotiation and drafting of grant agreements and other contracts. 

    Desirable:    

    • Previous work experience with WHO.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Sound knowledge of private law, in particular commercial law (especially contracts, IT, intellectual property, procurement law) as well as a knowledge of international law. 
    • Skills in analyzing and organizing facts and in presenting clear, logical and legally sound opinions.
    • Ability to negotiate and draft agreements in a wide range of areas. 
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and writing skills and a good team worker.  
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and ERP system.
