    Crop Protection and Irrigation Manager- Timau

    Key responsibilities:

    To keep all pests of concern in the farm below threshold, ensure maximum harvestable crop with below threshold pest level at Packhouse intake and to ensure the crop is well irrigated as per the irrigation schedule.

    OVERAL DUTIES

    • To implement chemical crop protection activities for the farm or assigned area.
    • To plan weekly spray programs for all crops in consultation with the Production Manager.
    • To obtain, follow and update IRAC and FRAC guidelines on use of pesticides.  
    • To ascertain and supervise the use of only registered chemicals for each crop grown.
    • To eliminate chemical residue detection by observance of PHI and reduction of tank mixed active ingredients.
    • To ensure integrity of the spray equipment through regular calibrations (minimum monthly).
    • To ensure the spray equipment is always in a serviceable state and to follow up on any repairs that may be needed.
    • To implement various IPM approaches that help in better pest control, reducing the cost of controls and dependence on synthetic chemicals.
    • Continuous supervision and training of the crop protection teams for optimum results and safety of the spray team.
    • To carry out any other duties as instructed by the farm manager from time to time.
    • Ensure the crop is well irrigated as per the irrigation schedule.
    • Avoid over watering and dry areas within area of jurisdiction.
    • No damage occurs to the crop due to improper irrigation.
    • Ensure fertilizer requisition is ready by Monday.
    • Ensure fertilizers are properly measured and transported to pump house.
    • Ensure fertilizers are properly mixed in the fertigation tanks whereby Nitrates and Sulphates are put into separate tanks.
    • Ensure the correct EC and PH of the stock solution is always maintained.
    • Ensure fertigation records are always updated and filed properly.
    • Ensure high level of hygiene is maintained in the fertigation pumps.
    • Ensure all irrigation and fertigation apparatus are functioning and well maintained.
    • Ensure the drip lines are flushed once a week to avoid clogging.
    • Ensure the filter is cleaned with a detergent once a week.
    • Promote teamwork and ensure disciplinary measures are taken where necessary.
    • Ensure drip lines and misters are always properly aligned in your allocated area.
    • You will be required to abide by the company’s rules and regulations, failure to do so will result in disciplinary action. 

    In order to protect your health you must observe the following:

    • Follow instructions & orders as given by the management.
    • Maintain the PPE issued to you in good order and condition.
    • Ensure that PPE given are worn at all times while working.
    • Report any problems to the Farm Manager immediately.

    SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Ability to plan for sprays for different crop growth stages and generate a weekly spray plan.
    • Keeping up to date with new trends and products for crop protection
    • An understanding of PPPL’s for the various crops under production
    • A very good appreciation of pest threshold levels and their effect on final quality and production
    • Carrying out efficacy tests periodically.
    • Ability to maintain high standard of hygiene
    • Ensure proper irrigation of flowers as per irrigation plan.

    Elite Plants Production Propagation Manager- Rumuruti

    Key responsibilities:

    General

    • Planning, coordinating and supervising all propagation activities
    • Schedule and managed the plant propagation personnel and maintain detailed records to track crops and propagation methods.
    • Responsible for planning grafting schedule and requesting budwoods from clients based on orders as needed.
    • Manage the team to maintain liner stock and oversee planting maintenance and cultural needs
    • Supervise, instruct and train the team
    • Solve irrigation and greenhouse issues for production scheduling for future crop planning.
    • Ensure that the propagation targets are met; quality, reject rates, success rates.
    • Develop programmes for the root stock to ensure availability throughout the season.

    • Preparation of Propagation reports/ Developing and ensuring the propagation QMS manual is in place and up to date.
    • Responsible for the safety and maintenance of all equipment and facilities in the unit

    Customer

    • Coordinate schedule of plant orders and deliveries to the schedule and send to the customers.

    Manage any other tasks deemed necessary or recommended by the General Manager.

    Key competencies

    • Fluent in spoken and written English
    • Educated to degree level in relevant field, with 1-2 years’ experience in similar role
    • BSc in Horticulture or a related field
    • A minimum of  2years of management experience in a horticultural field

    • Experience in irrigation is desired, but not essential.
    • Must have the physical ability to cut and gather cutting stock, lift plants and materials as well as perform other basic nursery tasks.

    Production Manager- Flowers- Timau

    Role: 

    Staff

    1. To ensure that the field managers working in the section allocate daily work targets to staff and record performance of all team members
    2. To ensure that all labour in the section is effective and efficient and that all staff achieve the recommended daily tasks.
    3. To maintain staff discipline and welfare in accordance with the company policy.

    Planning

    1. To plan all the farm/section operations for the month, week, and day in consultation with the farm manager.
    2. To ensure that all crop husbandries ie land preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation and spraying etc are done to the highest possible standard.
    3. To confirm all picking predictions done by picking supervisors.
    4. To ensure that produce is picked on time, handled carefully and is of high quality in accordance with the packhouse standards.
    5. To co-ordinate produce shading and transport to the packhouse
    6. To communicate with packhouse daily and make  regular visit to confirm quality issues

    Audits/ standards

    1. To ensure the company field operations adhere to customer standards (as per audit guidelines)
    2. Handle and address any deviation on standards (customer responses

    Record keeping

    1. To ensure that various team leaders, scouts and supervisors keep accurate records of all operations carried out in the section.

    Irrigation

    1. To check and plan irrigation according to weather and stage of each crop
    2. Monitor flashing on weekly basis on drippers and main lines
    3. Checking EC/PH gets into the crop in consultation with the farm manager
    4. To make sure irrigation maintenance records are updated.

    Crop Protection

    1. Follow up with scarab scouting system to make sure pest and diseases are identified at early stages
    2. Program spray with the person in charge of spray in consultation with the farm manager
    3. Records of scouting and spray are updated as required daily/weekly/monthly.
    4. Calibration records of spray pump and nozzles
    5. Re-entry intervals must be followed as per the chemical class
    6. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor

    Assistant Stores Supervisor- Naromoru

    Key tasks:

    1. Ensure all required packaging materials are available just in time to support production.
    2. Maintain accurate stock cards for all packaging and non-fixed items, updating them promptly after every transaction.
    3. Liaise with Packaging store manager to prepare and submit weekly requisitions for packaging materials and other controlled items.
    4. Request raw materials as needed, ensuring proper authorization and timely delivery.
    5. Oversee issuance of items, tools, and equipment by ensuring proper documentation through issuance forms and books, including signatures and dates.
    6. Keep all stock records updated and prepare weekly reports on items leaving the packhouse, including reasons.
    7. Record all receipts of packaging materials into the Veg Manager System and generate Goods Intake Receipts (GIRs).

    9. Maintain and regularly update the packaging specification file.
    10. Liaise with the packaging Store supervisor and production manager to enforce reorder levels for controlled items (e.g., packaging, chemicals) and ensure compliance.
    11. Follow the packaging intake procedure when receiving new packaging materials.
    12. Coordinate with the hygiene team to ensure shallow cleaning of packaging materials before issuing them to QC on the floor.
    13. Issue packaging materials to the production Supervisor in-charge, ensure retrieval of unused materials after packing, and record all movements accurately.
    14. Inspect the packaging store to ensure hygienic conditions and advise the hygiene supervisor on corrective actions when necessary.
    15. Safeguard the security of the store and its contents, working collaboratively with other staff to prevent loss or misuse.
    16. Adhere to company quality and management system policies.

    Field Operations Manager- Rumuruti

    Key Responsibilities: 

    Role:   

    Land Preparation and Replanting

    1. Plan and execute land preparation activities, including plowing, tilling, and soil conditioning.
    2. Supervise and ensure timely and effective replanting processes to maximize field productivity.

     Flower Transportation

    1. Coordinate the transportation of flowers from greenhouses to the packhouse.

    3. Optimize transportation routes and schedules to meet delivery deadlines.

    Composting Management

    1. Oversee the composting process, ensuring organic waste is efficiently converted into nutrient-rich compost.
    2. Manage the distribution and application of compost to improve soil fertility.

    Stores Management

    1.  Supervise the issuance, receipt, and tracking of field supplies, tools, and inputs.
    2.  Monitor stock levels, ensure timely requisition, and prevent stock-outs or overstocking.
    3. Ensure adherence to inventory management systems and standards.

    Asset and Equipment Ownership

    1. Responsible for proper management of all the tools and equipment within your jurisdictions
    2. Maintain an inventory of all assets and equipment within your jurisdictions.

    Plastic management

    1. Install new greenhouse plastics in line with company specifications and agronomy requirements
    2. Ensure correct fitting, stretching, and sealing of plastics to avoid leaks, sagging, or damage
    3. Replace torn, damaged, or worn-out plastics promptly.
    4. Maintain safety standards during installation, ensuring use of proper tools and PPE.
    5. Work closely with supervisors to plan installation schedules in line with crop cycles

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    1. Achieve 100% compliance to events planning and schedules
    2. 100% labor utilization (not more than 2.5% OT, all planned leaves finished, clocking in time)
    3. Timely transportation and delivery of flowers  to the packhouse with not more than 1% mechanical damage
    4. Achieve >85% implementation of preventative maintenance schedule and ensure <3% downtime due to equipment failure.
    5. Maximum of 2% deviation from the Operations Budget set
    6. Staff Training and Retention within your Department/Section. Achieve 85% workforce training and retention score/quarter.

    Reporting Metrics

    1. Inventory report indicating stock levels, shortages and requisitions  - Monthly

    Security Section Head- Timau

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Enforce company rules and regulations and a member of the facility compliance team and sits in the Safety, Health & Environmental Committee (SHE).
    • Administration of security staff under his command, resources and other security equipment allocated to the security department.
    • Assist the Farms Security Manager in formulating security policies and procedures concerning the farm.
