    Data Clerk

    Position Summary:

    IRC is seeking a Data Clerk to be based in Nairobi for a Euro 30 Million five year, urban livelihoods program: Refugees in East Africa: Boosting Urban Innovations for Livelihoods Development (RE:BUILD). The RE: BUILD program is funded by the IKEA Foundation and will be implemented in Kampala and Nairobi. The IRC is the Lead Partner and will coordinate a consortium of local and international partners to deliver the program. RE: BUILD seeks for urban refugees and vulnerable host residents to achieve economic self-reliance and benefit from strengthened urban economic, regulatory, and social environments. RE: BUILD will strive to enable change at varying levels, from better access to livelihood opportunities and inclusive services within communities to improved refugee-related policies and more targeted and effective service delivery from national, regional, and global actors. Key features of RE: BUILD’s approach include flexible funding, adaptive design and knowledge, and evidence generation.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Participate actively in the enforcement of quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement measures for all program intervention.
    • Support other RE:BUILD project staff members in registering clients using tablets, to program application database.
    • support in the verification and cleaning of data to ensure compliance and avoidance of double servicing of clients within IRC programs and also within RE:BUILD implementing partners.
    • Assist in verifying the accuracy of data as collected at all stages of program implementation and ensure data entered into the Comm Care application is accurate and of good quality.
    • Cooperate with the project team in developing and updating database and project indicator dashboards.
    • Handle data collection during baseline surveys, end line surveys, follow-up surveys, business monitoring, and USLA monitoring exercises.
    • Coordinate closely with program staff and management on targeting, data collection, data systems and information management.
    • Support the Client Responsiveness senior officer in organizing and attending client and partners feedback fora sessions.
    • Participate in M&E learning cycles and M&E capacity building workshops for project staff.
    • Undertake any other duties as advised by the supervisor.

    Monitoring and Reporting

    • Work with the other M&E staff to design and Implement Monitoring & Evaluation Plans.
    • Conduct regular visits to project sites, as possible, to provide technical assistance and ensure proper monitoring of project activities.
    • Work closely with Senior M&E Officer in the analysis and interpretation of data and in the creation of data exports and dashboards.
    • Support the Senior M&E officer in preparing M&E monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports for the RE:BUILD management team and the donor, as needed and on-time.

    Qualifications

    • Degree or Diploma in Information Systems, Database Management, Computer Science, or related field.
    • At least 1 to 2 years of meaningful work experience in monitoring and evaluation, data management, data analysis, or similar livelihood programming.
    • Experience handling data collection and analysis, with experience with or concrete knowledge of open-source tools such as ODK collect, KoBo Toolbox, or CommCare platforms.
    • Experience in mobile data collection, entry & data cleaning with a large database would be an added advantage.
    • Humanitarian organization experience preferred, or experience interacting with refugees or vulnerable youths.
    • Experience conducting critical data analysis and report writing.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relations with local counterparts, donors, and other collaborators.
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Fluency in English and Swahili required.

    Senior Editorial Officer

    Job Overview:

    IRC is seeking a Senior Editorial Officer, under the direct supervision of the Protection Manager and will collaborate with the Julisha.Info teams in Nairobi and the Hagadera and Kakuma refugee camps. The Senior Editorial Officer will be responsible for development, management, and dissemination of quality, verified, relevant information on Julisha.info. The position is integral within the Julisha team and will work closely with moderators in publishing content through digital and other diverse channels based on need and responding to clients’ information needs.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Publish relevant and appropriate content on Julisha.info.
    • Ensure Julisha.Info content is accurate, complete, easy to understand and engaging.
    • Collaborate on, edit written and multimedia content built by Julisha team (Moderators, Service mapping officer)
    • Monitor traffic and other feedback emanating from Julisha.Info
    • Use the Zendesk Content Management System (CMS) and other tools to prepare content for publication.
    • Coordinate, update, and handle the Signpost style guide.
    • Ensure the Signpost photo database and calendar are up to date.
    • Support moderators with publishing posts on Facebook and other media
    • Contribute to drafting reports on Julisha content.
    • Work with Information Technology team to resolve technical issues across platforms.

    Staff Support

    • Provide technical guidance, on the job mentoring and coaching for the moderators and senior editorial officers.
    • Ensure ongoing training and targeted capacity building of signpost staff.
    • Review performance of moderators in the field and provide encouraging approaches to address issues identified.

    Key Working Relationships:

    • Position Reports to: Protection Manager.
    • Position directly supervises: Moderators.
    • Indirect Reporting: Protection Coordinator, Field Coordinator.
    • Other Internal and/or external contacts: Julisha team (Moderators, Service mapping officer), IRC Protection and Rule of Law team, IT/Helpdesk team

    Qualifications

    Work Experience:

    • Approximately four to six years of meaningful experience in editing, sub-editing, copy editing.
    • Experience working with a humanitarian organization.

    Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

    • Experience with Navigating online systems to complete work.
    • Knowledge of social media strategies.
    • Knowledge of online content standard methodologies.
    • Knowledge and experience of running websites and social media platforms.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, Media, Public information, or another relevant field

    Language Skills:

    • Advanced English language skills, oral and written.

    Preferred Experience & Skills:

    • Experience in content editing
    • Strong writing and proofreading skills
    • Passion for writing
    • Strong interpersonal and time-management skills; shown ability to prioritize and deliver on time
    • Great attention to detail
    • Strong analytic problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work both independently and in a multifaceted, cross-functional team
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
