    Clinical Coordinator – Nursing Education & Quality Assurance

    Ref No. COTQA/02/2022  

    Key responsibilities:

    • Coordination of all Internal nursing staff training by availing annual Training Calendar for short courses (BLS, ACLS, PALS/EPLS, ATLS, ALSO) and any other course deemed necessary.
    • Coordination of Nurses CMEs
    • Coordination of orientation and induction of nursing department staff.
    • Coordination of other clinical related external trainings, meetings, conferences and Symposiums
    • Coordinates Training Evaluation by carrying out Planned Clinical Reasoning
    • Conducts Skill checks and Drills.
    • Coordination of practical attachments for high school students and other volunteers
    • Coordination of all practical attachments for college and university students.
    • Ensures students pays clinical attachment fees as stipulated in the MOUs
    • Analyzes the Feedback report for all students on attachment and provides Action Plan.
    • Holds Meetings with all Stakeholders and Gives a written report.
    • Coordinates all Clinical Audits in all Nursing and Non Nursing Departments and gives Feedback and reports accordingly.
    • Designs a plan for continuing department-based learning and works with the nurse manager to ensure participation of all nurses.
    • Attends Head Nurses Meetings and gives Updates
    • Coordinates Research Activities for Nurses.
    • Coordinates Revision of MOUs with Various Institutions. And Keeps Records of the same.
    • Ensures nursing staff are familiar with the documentation policy and trains nurses on the use of all nursing forms/charts.
    • Uses clinical incidences as learning opportunities for nurses and with them plans corrective and preventive actions
    • Work in liaison with the clinical programs for the implementation of process improvement activities.
    • Review hospital processes and look for opportunities for process improvement
    • Supports the Quality Assurance Manager in administrative duties

     Minimum requirement:

    • Diploma (KRCHN) / Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN);
    • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid license;
    • Four (4) years clinical working experience in a busy preferably ISO accredited institution
    • TOT Certification for in BLS and/ or ACLS;
    • Certification in Quality Improvement methods is an advantage.
    • Proficient in Basic computer skills
    • Excellent and communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent data collection, analysis, and presentation skills
    • Possess strong leadership qualities

    Nurse Clinical Instructor

    Key Area Responsibilities:

    Clinical Instruction for Nurses;

    • Conduct clinical instruction to all Nurses in all clinical placement sites both internal and external.
    • Introduce students to the clinical placement sites and facilitate their orientation with every change of clinical placement.
    • Ensure that the skills lab is always well stocked and keep an inventory of the supplies and equipment in the skills lab.
    • Regularly update the teaching staff and students on any new development regarding nursing procedures.
    • Coordinate Movements of Students to Hospital upon Graduation;
    • Responsible for coordination and sourcing of placement areas for students upon graduation in liaison with the Chief Nursing Officer and Principal.
    • Liaise with College to coordinate placements of students and update senior nursing staff accordingly.
    • Demonstrate, supervise and assess nursing procedures both in the ward and class tutorials.
    • Working closely with the Quality Assurance and Training Coordinator to assess the training needs all Nurses and plan how to address these.
    • Clinical Conferences and Training;
    • Conduct clinical conferences with staff to facilitate skill acquisition and current nursing practice.
    • Conducts training in support of CME and address skills gaps.
    • Assess training needs.
    • Liaise with the Quality Assurance and Training coordinator for Nurses case presentations.

    Monitor Nurses Clinical Performance;

    • Ensure students’ clinical performance records are completed by ward supervisors one week (1) before the end of placement and such records updated in individual student’s file.
    • Plan and conduct Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCEs) on specified skills required to be mastered by the students before attending to patients.
    • Plan and coordinate Nursing Council assessments for students within the clinical placements.
    • Ensure that students fill in the skills taught and demonstrated in their practical/clinical log books.
    • Record actual work done week-by-week in regards to practical subjects and progress records of individual students clinical performance.

    Support to the College’s Activities;Participate in mentorship programme and counselling sessions for students.

    • Participate in planning and coordinating co-curricular activities for students.
    • Participate in the institution’s Brand promotion as well as other marketing strategies for growth of the school.
    • Perform any other duty assigned by the Principal as it may be deemed necessary from time to time
    • Professional Development;
    • Maintain and develop own professional competencies and knowledge by attending and participating in continuous education sessions within and externally.
    • Act as a mentor to students and junior staff
    • Participate in the identification of training needs for students and clinical staff.
    • Must have clinical teaching, counselling ,mentorship and assessment skills

    Minimum requirement:

    • Diploma (KRCHN) / Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN)
    • Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing;
    • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid license;
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of classroom and clinical teaching experience at an institution of higher learning;
    • Ability to teach using a variety of methods to effectively engage students in learning;
    • Advanced computer skills and understanding of its use in a college setting;
    • Able to counsel and mentor students and staff;
    • Able to lead a large group of students;
    • Able to assess students oral and written work including exam papers;
    • Advanced written and oral communication skills. Able to provide stimulating lectures for students and provide written materials for students.
    • Good organisation skills.
