    General Nurse – Private Wing

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Clinical team to navigate patients through the treatment journey, working directly with adult patients to help address underlying medical conditions, and provide treatment as per plan.
    • Ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
    • Constantly Monitor, assess and chart a patient’s condition and response to treatment and medication, including the patients’ physical and psycho-social status, and adjust treatment accordingly.
    • Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management as per policy and procedures.
    • Actively participate in ward rounds, receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, while ensuring all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent.
    • Effectively manage patient data and records.
    • Ensure patients safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs).
    • Supervise Patient Attendants as per their job description.
    • Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy, and observe the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.
    • Organize emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, ensure drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment reported promptly, and a checklist kept and updated as needed.

    Qualifications

    • BScN or Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN). Higher Diploma in Nursing is an added advantage.
    • A valid Nursing License from NCK
    • Valid certification in BLS, ACLS.
    • 2+ years’ experience working in a busy environment.

    Trauma & Emergency Nurse

    Job Objective/ Purpose:

    Provide professional and compassionate nursing services and high quality care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Respond promptly to emergency alerts, hospital codes, and mass casualty incidents and work with the Clinical team to guide patients through the emergency treatment journey, supporting timely diagnosis and management of the presenting condition, and deliver treatment as per the care plan.
    • Assist with and manage complex bedside procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, chest tube insertion and peritoneal dialysis, within scope of practices, ensuring aseptic technique and safe patient handling.
    • Continuously monitor and interpret vital signs via advanced systems (cardiac, ventilator, ICP, etc.), titrating IV infusions (e.g., inotropes, vasopressors, insulin, sedatives) within prescribed parameters and responding promptly to changes in condition.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date emergency department documentation, including triage notes, treatment charts, and observation flow sheets, and ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, including recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 4 hours using the provided tools.
    • Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management, including preparation and dispensing medication and allied consumables according to prescribed dosages and safety protocols (Five rights of Dispensing).
    • Actively participate in patient admission, ward rounds, receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, while ensuring all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent.
    • Manage end-of-life care with empathy and professionalism, including withdrawal of care, comfort measures, and supporting family through difficult decisions.
    • Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy, and observe the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.

    • Higher Diploma in Accident & Emergency Nursing (KRAEN) or Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN)
    • A valid Nursing License from NCK
    • Current BLS and ACLS certification; training in ETAT+/ATLS/PALS is an added advantage.
    • 2+ years’ experience in an Accident & Emergency or Critical Care setting

    Unit manager - Specialists Clinic

    Job Objective/ Purpose:

    Planning, organizing, and coordinating all Specialists Clinic (SPC) unit activities, ensuring the provision of patient-centrist nursing care, operational efficiency and positive patient experience, in line with the Hospital protocols and standards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    People Management:

    • Supervise SPC team in delivering individual and team targets by ensuring  all nurses accurately perform their tasks, including admission, discharge, drug administration, clinical observations, IPC, and others, and lead performance appraisals.
    • Prepare monthly work schedules (ROTA) and ensure efficient use of overtimes and locums.
    • Provide leadership, ensuring staff development, engagement, performance, and ensure monthly staff meetings with documented evidence.
    • Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrate growth through;
      • Ensuring quality of Care & Service hence ensuring high patient retention rates by achieving high patient satisfaction rates and NPS scores.
      • Managing SPC unit costs within budget through appropriate staffing, timely and accurate billing, incidences and consumables management.

    • Ensure proper inventory, standardization, calibration, and maintenance on all SPC equipment, and prudent inventory and supplies management.
    • Nursing Services
      • Review specific patients’ investigations, analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and initiate immediate intervention.  
      • Ensure primary nurse engagement with doctors and other providers regarding patients’ plan of care with emphasis on a team-based problem-solving approach.
      • Participate in formulation of, and ensure implementation of SOPs and QIPs in the unit, including enforcement of IPC standards, and observe the infection control bundles.

    Oncology Nurse

    Job Objective/ Purpose:

    Provide professional and compassionate nursing services and high quality care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Clinical team to manage oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or radiotherapy by evaluating patient conditions, monitoring vital signs, interpreting lab and diagnostic results, and creating individualized nursing care plans then undertaking safe administration of cytotoxic agents per protocol, and providing treatment as per plan, including educating patients and their families about treatment, potential side effects, and medication management.
    • Continuously monitor and assess patients for chemotherapy and treatment-related side effects (e.g., neutropenia, mucositis, nausea, anaphylaxis), titrating supportive medications within prescribed parameters and responding promptly to changes in condition.
    • Assist with and manage oncology-specific procedures such as PICC line and central venous access care, intrathecal chemotherapy support, and bone marrow biopsy assistance, ensuring aseptic technique and safe patient handling.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date oncology documentation, including chemotherapy administration records, treatment charts, toxicity grading, and response-to-treatment notes, and ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, including recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 4 hours using the provided tools.

    Medical Officer - Trauma & Emergency

    Job Objective/ Purpose:

    Provide professional and compassionate emergency medical treatment and care to patients presenting with acute illness or injuries by ensuring patient review and treatment in line with Avenue Healthcare’s policies, procedures and standards, and medical standards and practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Clinical team to navigate patients through emergency treatment, providing appropriate assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and management, and undertake clinical procedures per training, in line with the hospital policies
    • Provide clarity of investigations to be carried out, interpretation of the results, and ensuring accurate, and clear documentation of patient history, physical examination, investigations, and management.
    • Facilitate patient admissions, necessary consents, updates of progress to the patient and the next of kin, and discharges.
    • Champion evidence based practice and continuous skill improvement by attending and Facilitating CMEs  to colleagues to build capacity to provide care.
    • Actively participate in clinical quality initiatives including, morbidity and mortality meetings, maintaining and enforcing infection control standards, ensuring patients safety following the IPSGs, Incident reporting, RCAs and QIPs.
    • Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management as per policy and procedures.

    Person Specification

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized Institution·
    • Postgraduate training in Emergency Medicine is preferred
    • a Certificate of Registration and a Valid practicing license from the KMPDC
    • A Valid certification in BLS, ACLS, ATLS and PALS 
    • 2+ years’ post-internship experience in a busy emergency department
