    Head of Strategy - Electric

    • As the Head of Strategy – Electric, you will collaborate closely with senior management, including the CEO, to define the strategic roadmap, identify market opportunities, and ensure the alignment of our electric products division with our broader business goals.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with senior management to devise effective short and long-term plans for the Electric business.
    • Lead initial research and project design for electric product development.
    • Formulate strategies and initiatives to achieve Electric’s strategic objectives, including market analysis, expansion opportunities, and potential partnerships.

    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
    • Familiarity with electric product development and emerging markets is a plus.

    Product Manager – LPG (Carbon Projects)

     

    About the Role

    • The Product Manager position presents an exciting opportunity to manage/midwife the rollout and complete lifecycle (from development to improvement) of one of our cooking product categories.  
    • This role will be crucial in driving product opportunity identification & evaluation, product development & design and product & innovation project management for our LPG stoves tailored for carbon projects.  The role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, carbon, MRV, PME and Market Research teams to ensure that our LPG stoves are designed, produced, and positioned effectively to meet the needs of carbon projects, while also aligning with our company's product strategy.
    • This role requires a deep understanding of both product development and carbon offset methodologies, as well as a passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.
    • BURN has been developing, testing, and bringing to market new cooking products for 10+ years in Kenya. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a growing organization and contribute to a fast-moving company committed to improving economic, environmental, and social outcomes across Africa.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Formulate and execute a comprehensive product strategy for LPG stoves targeted specifically towards carbon projects.
    • Identify market opportunities, conduct thorough market research, and define product requirements based on customer needs and carbon methodologies.
    • Managing the product development process, from ideation to launch, to achieve planned timelines.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, MRV, PME and Market Research teams to conceptualize, design, and develop LPG stoves optimized for carbon projects.
    • Work closely with carbon project & technical teams to ensure seamless integration of LPG stoves into carbon projects, including compliance with relevant carbon methodologies and certification processes.
    • Stay abreast of methodologies and standards related to carbon offset projects.
    • Conduct economic value propositions and develop pricing strategies for LPG stoves within carbon projects, ensuring profitability while maximizing emission reductions.
    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of the carbon projects and continuously analyze data to identify areas for improvement and optimization of the product. 
    • Monitoring industry trends and competitor activity to stay ahead of market developments and identify potential threats or opportunities.
    • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and partners, to ensure successful product outcomes and collaboration.

    Skills and Experience:

    • 3-5 years of relevant experience in physical product management, New Product development and commercialization.
    • An engineering background will be a significant plus.
    • Previous experience in managing products within carbon projects will be an added advantage. 
    • You will have to be a strong communicator, collaborator, a hands-on manager and have the ability to keep track of all the moving pieces in your cross-functional team and product management process.
    • You have experience in managing and working cross-functionally with diverse teams that might span different time zones.
    • You are a product person; a people person and you know how to set priorities and coordinate with all stakeholders within and outside of the company to meet them.
    • You are not shy to ask questions and are always striving to deliver the best results, considering the complexity of the system and its requirements.

    Strategic Associate - Competitive Analysis and Business Plans

    About the role

    • BURN is looking for a Strategic Associate - Competitive Analysis and business plans who will play a pivotal role in gathering, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence on our competitors to drive informed decision-making and maintain our competitive edge in the clean cooking industry.
    • The individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to provide insights and recommendations that will guide our product development, marketing, and business strategies.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Competitor Analysis:

    • Research and track our competitors' activities, strategies, and product offerings globally across the cookstove industry and any other related industry.
    • Identify and monitor emerging competitors, potential threats, and opportunities in the market.
    • Analyze competitor strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis).

    Market Research:

    • Stay up to date with market trends, consumer preferences, and regulatory changes that could impact BURN's competitive position.
    • Work with MR team to gather data on pricing.

    Data Collection, analysis, and Insights generation:

    • Collect, organize, and maintain a database of competitor information, including financial data, product specifications, and market share.
    • Analyze data to provide insights into competitor performance, market positioning, and potential areas for growth.
    • Generate insights that can be used for decision making and to create strategic plans.

    Reporting and Communication:

    • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management and cross-functional teams, highlighting key competitor insights and recommendations.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure that competitive intelligence is integrated into strategic planning.

    Competitive Strategy:

    • Work closely with the strategy and product development teams to develop strategies that capitalize on competitive weaknesses and opportunities.
    • Provide input on pricing, product features, and marketing tactics based on competitor insights.
    • Support in strategy execution.

    Ethical Standards:

    • Adhere to ethical standards in gathering and using competitor intelligence, ensuring compliance with legal and industry regulations.

    Benchmarking:

    • Comparing our products and offerings against the competition and recommending areas of improvement.

    Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
    • Proven experience in competitor intelligence, or strategic analysis, with a minimum of 5 years in a relevant role.
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to generate actionable insights.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
    • Knowledge of the clean cooking space/ industry is a plus.
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software.
    • Ethical and responsible conduct in handling sensitive competitive information.
