    Junior Support Assistant (Security Assistant)

    Overall Purpose of the Job

    • To protect icipe land parcel and other infrastructure at Kuja River field site.
    • To regularly give reports concerning the security status at Kuja River field site to the ITOC Mbita security supervisor for review.
    • To handle all visitors at the field station with courtesy and assist them where necessary.
    • To attend to any other matters as may be assigned by the ITOC Mbita security supervisor or his designee and which could be added to this list of responsibilities.

    Specific Duties

    • To maintain regular patrols at the land parcels and ensure that they are well secured and free from encroachment.
    • To ensure that only authorised persons are allowed access to the icipe land parcels at Kuja River field station.
    • To ensure that the icipe land boundaries at Kuja River field site are intact.
    • To ensure that the paths leading to the icipe land parcel at Kuja River field site are well maintained.

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) or its equivalent.
    • Exposure in security services.
    • At least 1 year of work experience in a similar role. 
    • Solving of occurring problems with minimum supervision.

    Research Assistant II

    Overall Purpose of the Job

    • To provide support for mixed-methods (qualitative and quantitative) research activities within several Human Health research projects (malaria, tungiasis and other NTDs) which have strong community engagement components and seek to investigate determinants of health. He/she will work under supervision of the site 
    • leader and senior staff members of the project providing support with development of qualitative and semiqualitative data collection tools, focus group discussion guidelines, and to implement mixed-methods surveys

    Specific Duties

    • To support development of standard operating procedures and field data collection tools as per project requirements. 
    • Conduct informed consent procedures with household heads and guardians.
    • Implement qualitative field data collection, including household mapping and enumerations, household observations, focus group discussions, open space meetings, stakeholder interviews, semi-structured questionnaires, and others as per project requirements following approved guidelines and tools. 
    • Transcriptions of audio recorded field interviews, events, and meetings for analysis.
    • Attend and facilitate community engagement, information dissemination, community-entry and exit meetings.
    • Participate in training activities.
    • Support entomological surveillance activities and provide training and supervision to communityowned resource persons.
    • Provide support with data entry of entomological and qualitative data.
    • Support tungiasis field surveys.

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • Diploma in Community Development.
    • Minimum of 2 years work experience in context of infectious diseases in a research environment.
    • Good skills in monitoring and evaluation; qualitative surveys.
    • Experienced in facilitating IDIs, FDGs and community engagement events.
    • Experienced in qualitative household observations in the context of hygiene behaviours.
    • Experienced with transcriptions from audio-recordings and from observational studies.
    • Experienced in clinical assessment of tungiasis.
    • Conversant with mosquito and biting fly monitoring and excellent knowledge of traps.
    • Experienced in mentoring and training community-owned resource persons. 
    • Conversant with using electronic data collection devices and software.
