    Digital Media Planner

    Job Description:

    Against the backdrop of the shifting media landscape, CGTN Africa is looking for a Digital Media Planner to drive awareness of, and engagement with, the channel online. If successful you join a team striving to make connections with an Africa-wide audience, telling stories of the African continent from a new perspective.


    The CGTN Africa Digital Media Department develops and manages all CGTN Africa's online platforms including the CGTN Africa website, Facebook page, You Tube page, Twitter account & G+ page Digital Planners (DP's) have editorial control for all content posted online by CCTV Africa.

    DPs ensure that all platforms are accurate, up-to-date and filled with compelling content. They manage Digital Editors, Digital Program Editors & Digital Video Editors to ensure that all current African news and CGTN Africa program information is available across the channel's online platforms. DP's are the bridge between the Digital Media Department, the newsroom and the Correspondents and Reporters. DP's ensure that the most compelling content from assignments is captured and posted on CGTN Africa's digital platforms.

    Digital Planner Duties

    • Manage CGTN Africa's Digital Media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the website. Ensure that all accounts have content that's compelling and timely.Coordinate with the TV planning teams ensuring that the Digital Media Team is participating in all relevant editorial coverage.
    • Pitch compelling stories that CGTN Africa' audiences will want to share online.
    • Collaborate with TV reporters and correspondents in the field, building relationships and ensuring content relevant for digital platforms is consistently provided for the Digital Media Team.
    • Ensure that breaking news and focused big news events are tweeted live and updates on CGTN Africa's social media platforms in real time
    • Push the promotion of CGTN Africa's programs on social media, including, Global Biz, Match Point, Talk Africa, Faces of Africa and any major special series coverage.
    • Keep track of the emerging and trending stories across Africa on social media and ensure that CGTN Africa is covering them.
    • Develop discussion on central African stories and issues on Social Media platforms. Thereby promoting CGTN Africa as the “go-to” source for African opinion.
    • Collect feedback regarding CGTN news from our audiences and conduct polls or surveys to understand our viewers’ key concerns.
    • Coordinate with Beijing and Washington DC digital media team in order to promote CGTN NEWS as a whole

    Requirements

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in news or media organizations creating digital output for online audiences
    • Bachelor’s Degree or above required in communications and/or journalism
    • Great news judgment
    • Exceptional English editing skills and a concise writing style for social media
    • Good planning skills
    • A genuine love for and excitement about the internet
    • Established social media presence
    • Knowledge of Social Media Analytics & Social Media Reporting Tools
    • Knowledge of African history and politics
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to details
    • Experience of reporting and producing online programme are a bonus

    Other requirements

    • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment;
    • Must be a team player.
    • Must have the ability to work on a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Extreme interest in digital media emerging technology

    With the changing media landscape, we are seeking an experienced, dynamic and professional individual to fill the position of Copy Editor. If successful, you join a team striving to make connections with an Africa-wide audience, telling stories of the African continent from a new perspective.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Ensuring all scripts distributed are accurate and adhere to CGTN style, attribution, balance, clarity, context, conversational style, creativity, grammar, punctuation and spellingProvide all writers and producers tactful and constructive feedback about their scripts both in real-time and post-shift
    • Oversee writing work flow to ensure scripts are completed within deadlines
    • Experience working in live broadcasting

    Educational Background and Experience

    • Post-graduate degree in communications, journalism or English
    • Minimum 5 years’ copy editing experience (preferably in broadcast media)
    • Keen interest in international and African news/events
    • Ability to condense complicated topics in simple, colloquial language
    • Ability to summarize lengthy wire copy into short, sharp broadcast-style sentences
    • Possess an understanding of and appreciation for a multinational, multi-cultural work environment

    Skills / Qualifications Required

    • Must have excellent writing and editorial skills with exceptional command of the English language

    Line Producer

    The Line Producer is responsible for the oversight of live, daily newscasts or other live or pre-taped programs.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Line produce live, daily newscastsWrite and produce news content
    • Participate in editorial meetings by offering unique story ideas
    • Manage writers to produce accurate and relevant stories, while coaching and mentoring them as needed
    • Assist guest bookers with generating guest ideas for segments as needed or assigned
    • Assist with coverage of major news events to ensure high quality content
    • Collaborate with the entire news production team to ensure new coverage is compelling and accurate

    Educational Background and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree or above required in communications and/or journalism
    • Minimum of five years’ hands-on experience in television production
    • Have a passion for local and world news and must be good at identifying and telling compelling stories
    • Be able to organize reports from different perspectives within a short period of time
    • Be a polished professional with excellent communication skills
    • Have the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays

    Skills / Qualifications Required

    • Sound editorial judgment
    • Must demonstrate good writing skills
    • Must be able to multitask
    • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
    • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced newsroom environment strongly preferred.
