    Director/Chief Executive Officer

    About the position

    Our client, the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) is the National Research Institute under the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade an Enterprise Development. The Institute was established under the Science and Technology Act Cap. 250 of the Laws of Kenya in 1979 (now repealed by the Science, Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of 2013) as an Institute to undertake research and development in industrial and allied technologies.

    The Institute is seeking to recruit an innovative, results driven, highly motivated individual with a strong commercial acumen and high level of integrity to fill the position of Director/ Chief Executive Officer.

    The Director/ Chief Executive Officer will be reporting directly to the Board of Directors and will serve as the Accounting Officer of the Institute.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implement all Board policies and decisions;
    • Coordinate and implement KIRDI’s Strategic Plan that will deliver on the core mandate of the Institute
    • Serve as the link between the Board and the Management;
    • Be responsible for the implementation of the Performance Contract as signed between the Board of Directors and Government
    • Provide strategic leadership, draw and execute plans for the effective implementation of the Institute’s Strategic Plan and Vision 2030;
    • Initiate, review and oversee the implementation of policies and programmes as well as harmonise operational procedures to ensure maintenance of high levels of performance and accountability;
    • Establish and maintain collaborations with key national and international partners to promote industrial research and development;
    • Manage and control the Institute’s financial and other resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner in consultation with the Board;
    • Identify and develop the Institute’s competence needs to drive programmes in line with the Board’s approved Strategic Plan;
    • Prepare annual work plans and budgets and present to the Board for approval;
    • Transform KIRDI to a self-sustaining institute;
    • Promote the corporate image of KIRDI.

    Education, experience and skills

    • Must be a Kenyan citizen
    • Must possess a PhD in any of the following fields; Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Textile technology, Electrical Engineering, Mining, Power Resources, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Food Technology, Ceramics and Clay Technology, Environmental Science, Information Technology and Computer Engineering or its equivalent from a recognised institution;
    • Must have at least fifteen (15) years’ relevant work experience of which five (5) years must have been in a senior management level of a public or private institution;
    • Must be a member of a professional body;
    • Must have published scientific papers in refereed journals;
    • He/ She should have undergone management and leadership training course for a minimum period of six (6) weeks;
    • Ability to translate national goals, policies and strategies to research programs and projects;
    • Must have clear demonstration of managerial, administrative and organisational development skills;
    • Must possess good interpersonal skills and excellent people management skills

    Shortlisted candidates will be required, at the time of the interviews, to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 through provision of:

    • Certi­ficate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations
    • Clearance Certi­ficate from the Higher Education Loans Board
    • Tax Compliance Certi­ficate from the Kenya Revenue Authority
    • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and
    • Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau

    This appointment is on contractual terms for an initial period of three (3) years and is renewable once, based on satisfactory performance and business requirements.

    Talent & Performance Management Specialist

    About the position

    Our client, Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company Limited (KIWASCO) has the mandate to provide quality water and sanitation services to Kisumu City and its environs.

    KIWASCO is seeking to recruit a result driven, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with strong people management skills to fill the position of Talent and Performance Management Specialist. Reporting to the Human Resources and Administration Manager, the Talent and Performance Management Specialist will be responsible for the oversight of human resources functions related to training and performance management, leadership development, employee assessment and succession planning.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assess training needs and carry out baseline attitude surveys in order to design and implement relevant training programmes aimed at building staff capacity.
    • Develop and coordinate the implementation of staff induction and on-the-job orientation programmes aimed at providing new staff with relevant information about the technical and social aspects of their work.
    • Develop and implement the Human Resource strategic plan in line with the organisation’s overall strategy to support its objectives.
    • Lead the recruitment of all staff, selection and placement of staff to ensure that KIWASCO procures competent and highly skilled staff.
    • Develop and implement Learning and Development programs for all staff to enhance their behavioural and technical competencies, personal and professional growth and ensure the organisation has the right skills at all level to enable achievement of the strategic priorities.
    • Implement the organisation’s performance management policy including the setting of departmental objectives, monitoring and the annual performance appraisal to ensure that staff achieve set targets and dedicated calls.
    • Prepare the performance management calendar and conduct performance management training for all staff in line with best practice
    • Develop and review talent acquisition framework and tools
    • Work closely with HOD’s in the execution of talent management initiatives which include effective use of talent acquisition tools, talent review, and Identification of key successors in the succession planning, career paths, personal development plans, coaching and mentoring programs across the entire company.
    • Conduct regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation.
    • Coordinate weekly and monthly staff sharing forums to ensure sharing of information regarding KIWASCO’s current state of affairs.sanitation works and services.

    Education, Experience and Skills

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or business related field from a recognized university
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management
    • At least five (5) years’ experience, three (3) of which should be in a talent management role
    • Knowledge about the principles, experiences and the functions of effective human resource management.
    • Knowledge of performance management best practices and tools.
    • Understanding of Human Resource metrics and Analytics
    • Knowledge of talent management strategies and techniques
    • Knowledge of current labour laws
    • Knowledge of latest trends in Human Resource practice

    Sanitation Development Officer

    About the position

    Our client, Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company Limited (KIWASCO) has the mandate to provide quality water and sanitation services to Kisumu City and its environs.

    KIWASCO is seeking to recruit a result driven, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with strong people management skills to fill the position of Sanitation Development Officer. Reporting to the Pro Poor Coordinator, the Sanitation Development Officer will be responsible for leading the successful planning and implementation of an effective and sustainable market-based sanitation chain development in KIWASCO’s service area. This role plays a key role in market development of new, innovative, scalable and affordable on/off site sanitation products and services, triggering consumer investment at household/ plot level and advocating policy reform at the County level.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide overall leadership in developing and implementing practical and effective Sanitation strategies for demand raising, product and services supply chain establishment in Kisumu.
    • Lead in development of market demand and supply for sanitation products and services for urban hotspots in the service area.
    • To lead in continuing development and promotion of scalable innovative and alternative sanitation technologies in accordance to local context to ensure market satiety and easy replication.
    • Identify and support capacity development of small enterprises in provision of sanitation services in newly installed/ constructed infrastructure and services to maximise usage and generate business growth.
    • Ensure necessary liaison with County Government departments, customers, CBOs civil society partners, communities, consultants, businesses and contractors
    • Manage relations with development partners regarding sanitation works and services.

    Education, Experience and Skills

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Sanitation or a related discipline from a recognized university.
    • Must have 7 years of work experience with at least 5 years of experience in managing water and sanitation projects within urban and rural contexts.
    • Knowledge of Community Engagement.
    • Strong knowledge of urban and rural sanitation services provision.
