    Programme Coordinator, Rhino

    Reports to: Science, Research and Innovation Manager

    Supervises: None

    Job Grade: TBA

    Position Summary

     

    Under the supervision of the Science, Research and Innovation Manager and with a dotted reporting line to the Southern Kenya Programme Manager, the post holder will ensure the strategic development and implementation of Rhino Conservation work in Kenya in line with the WWF Kenya Strategic Plan and National Black Rhino Conservation Strategic Plan.    

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates the implementation of Rhino conservation programme activities in line with projects action plans.
    • Oversee WWF Kenya Rhino project development, management, implementation and the technical and financial reporting against the project implementation and action plan adhering to WWF network programme management standards.
    • Responsible for all the Rhino conservation work in all the priority landscapes (SOKNOT, KRL and Coastal Kenya) and work in close collaboration with the respective Landscape Managers
    • Leads in the assessment and reporting of progress including quality assurance, capacity building and conservation innovations.
    • Working with finance & operations team, responsible for project budgeting, project procurement, implementation of annual work plans and coordination of project activities.
    • Responsible for coordination and consultation of Rhino project stakeholders, external groups and workshops.

    ·       Responsible for ensuring WWF grantees expenditure is as outlined in the Rhino conservation project work plans and budgets. 

    • Hold overall financial responsibility for the programme, adhering to WWF network standards and supporting implementing partners achieve the same WWF standards
    • Responsible for donor reporting (technical and financial), within and outside of the WWF network
    • To work with WWF Kenya Communications department to ensure Science, Research and conservation results generated by the Project are communicated to the general public and to policy makers as well as WWF network.
    • Facilitate cross-border Rhino initiatives in consultation with relevant cross-border institutions.
    • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post.

    Profile

     Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge  

    The successful candidate will have significant experience, a proven conservation record and comprehensive understanding, in natural resource conservation, ideally with a focus on Rhino. In particular, the candidate must have:

    • Master’s degree in wildlife conservation, natural resource management or a related field.
    • A minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in wildlife conservation in Kenya with an international non-governmental organization (INGO) or relevant government agency. Experience in wildlife law enforcement and capacity building is an added advantage;
    • 3 years’ experience in project development, management (technical and financial), monitoring and reporting (technical and financial).
    • Excellent written, strong presentation and communication skills with excellent fluency in spoken and written English.
    • Strong project management, organizational, and financial management skills;
    • Problem solving, conflict management, negotiation and contract management skills
    • Proven ability to work effectively with teams and senior managers;
    • Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies, the not-for-profit sector and the scientific community.

    Working Relationships

    Internal:   Interacts frequently with thematic leaders, Coordinators, Landscape Managers, Projects Officers, consultants, researchers, all WWF-Kenya staff and other WWF Network staff.

    External:   Interacts   with   delivery   partners   and   other   stakeholders, which   may   include county and national governments, non-governmental   organisations, academic   institutions, donors, and specialists/consultants.

    Communications Officer-Kenya Rift Lakes Programme

    Reports to: Kenya Rift Lakes Programme Manager
    Supervises: None

     Position Summary

    Under the supervision of the Kenya Rift Lakes Programme Manager and with a dotted reporting line to the Communications and Content Development Coordinator, the Communication Officer will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of effective communication and advocacy strategy within the Kenya Rift Lakes (KRL) landscape.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Communication for Public Engagement and  Movement Building

    • Work in close partnership with Communications and Content Development Lead and KRL  landscape programme teams to develop and implement effective internal and external public relations and  communications strategies for the KRL landscape; 
    • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic communications and advocacy outreach programmes and campaigns to influence attitude and behaviour change; 
    • Develop and disseminate Information Education and Communications materials including print and electronic materials; 
    • Work in close partnership with KRL  program leaders to develop and disseminate quarterly bulletins highlighting the KRL  landscape conservation activities and impact;
    • Assists in designing and implementing crisis and media handling strategies;
    • Work with communications and program teams to generate digital content;
    • Support the delivery of creative, targeted and impactful communication, advocacy and engagement campaigns, activities and projects, which support the objectives of WWF-Kenya conservation impact and communications strategy;
    • Collaborate with communicators across the WWF network to enhance and develop communications planning processes and to achieve greater levels of engagement, participation and conversion from our core campaigns and initiatives. 

    Strategic Communication for Program Support  and Advocacy 

    • Participates in developing and implementing strategic outreach programmes and campaigns within the KRL landscape; 
    • Prepares talking points and speeches for KRL programme teams ; 
    • Support development of program proposals and  preparation of project reports; 
    • Contribute to programme conservation action plans development and review;
    • Support transboundary communications initiatives and jointly funded projects like SOKNOT; 
    • Identify ways to measure the success of activities and ensure regular evaluation reports are produced and prepared for individual campaigns, programmes and projects within the landscape. 

    Communications for Partnerships and Fundraising

    • Network with partners to ensure participation at partner-led public events to enhance WWF-Kenya’s  visibility within the KRL landscape; 
    • Participates in developing and implementing Corporate Citizenship Programs and activities; 
    • Assists in planning and organizing corporate events within the KRL  landscape;
    • Support the fundraising team in developing fundraising collaterals as part of the wider resource mobilization strategy; 
    • Monitors, reviews and provides recommendations regarding communication and fundraising activities; 
    • Organize and execute partner and corporate events such as media briefs, seminars and conferences among others;
    • Support communication liaison for donor visits within the KRL landscape.

    Internal Communication

    • Support the delivery of internal communications activities to support a range of projects, work areas and workgroups;
    • Ensures prudent management and safety of communication assets and resources; 
    • Support the management of WWF-Kenya’s website by liaising  with responsible staff to generate and update web content;
    • Work with the IT team in the regular development of online channels, to ensure it maximizes opportunities, to support the sharing of messages and two-way engagement and interaction;
    • Coordinate logistics, planning and evaluation to support a range of internal communications events in KRL landscape;
    • Embed and bring our brand to life for colleagues, building champions within the KRL landscape to support our external messaging and positioning;
    • Responsible for supporting scheduling and creating high-quality and engaging internal communications content on a weekly basis for core channels, and to deliver this in a variety of mediums, including written, visual, audio and video;
    • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post.

    Profile

     Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge  

    • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in public relations or communication-related field;
    • At least 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced media/communications environment; 
    • Respected relationships with key media; demonstrated success in pitching to local, regional and international media;

    Finance Officer ( Cash Based Transfer)

    JOB PURPOSE

    To support the stewardship of WFP’s resources, monitoring budgets, forecasting, analysing, reporting and providing core administrative support to enable effective management of funds, and ensure assistance to beneficiaries is undertaken in the most efficient and effective way possible.

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Advanced University degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or related fields, or First University degree in the same subject(s) with additional years of related work experience plus membership in an international recognized professional accountancy body such as Associated of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPA) or equivalent.

    Experience:At least 5 years of progressively responsible postgraduate professional experience in finance.

    Language: Fluency in oral and written English and an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is required. 

     

    ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

    • Experience in roles with great independence, decision making authority, supervision of staff and managing complex budgets
    • Experience in contributing to the development of financial risk management policies and procedures on embedding value for money through advice on financial assessment, reporting and accounting
    • Experience in working with financial services providers (for example banks, micro financing institutes or mobile telecommunication companies) on delivery of services to clients or beneficiaries
    • Experience in undertaking risk assessments of financial services providers and provision of guidance on risk mitigating factors
    • Previous experience working with Cash Based Transfer intervention in the humanitarian sector is desirable
    • Professional experience in financial services industry is an advantage.

    DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

    Technical Skills & Knowledge:

    • In-depth knowledge of payment infrastructure
    • Training and/or experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems, including SAP and other ERP systems;

    COMPETENCIES

    • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks within tight timelines;

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (1/2) (not all-inclusive)

     Under the general supervision and guidance of the Senior Regional Finance Officer, the Finance-Officer (Cash Based Transfer) will be responsible for the following key duties:

    • Support corporate finance and Cash Based Transfers (CBT) strategies by contributing to the development of policies and procedures for Country Offices in consultation with relevant divisions in HQ (Rome, Italy), participating in key programmatic initiatives, and embedding value for money in these initiatives through advice on financial assessment, reporting and accounting.
    • Lead Regional Bureau finance support on the implementation of CBT interventions, and compliance with WFP standard procedures and processes.
    • Undertake oversight and support missions as appropriate and assist in clarifying and improving proper application of CBT established policies and procedures and prepare comprehensive reports on findings with improvement action plans.
    • Undertake comprehensive CBT related risks analysis of operations in the region, providing conclusions to management to enable them to make informed decisions and minimize financial risk exposure to the organization.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (2/2)

    • Support and guide Country Offices on financial sectorial assessments such as the Macro and Micro Financial Assessments.
    • Lead coordination efforts and end to end guidance between HQ and Country Offices on financial services provider contractual agreements.
    • Lead regional finance CBT emergency capacity augmentation through deployment to provide surge support.
    • Support the alignment of CBT activities with the Integrated Road Map, specifically the Financial Framework Review.
    • Any other tasks that may be required to support the regional finance function.
