    Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer

    Media Relations Support

    • Build media knowledge and contacts in your designated region and specialist sectors of focus. 
    • Draft press releases, media advisories, quotes, and background materials under the direction of the Media Relations Manager.
    • Support responses to media enquiries and coordinate interviews or information requests.
    • Maintain up-to-date media lists, journalist databases, and monitoring systems.
    • Track media coverage and produce initial data for analysis and KPI reporting.
    • Assist with preparing talking points, briefings, and messaging documents.
    • Assist with media training and interview practice.

    Digital Communications Support

    • Work closely with social media colleagues to ensure messaging alignment across all platforms.
    • Assist in designing and producing digital content, including posts, graphics, short-form videos, and multimedia assets for use on social channels.
    • Help ensure digital content reflects consistent branding, accuracy, and tone.

    Podcasts, Webinars, and Multimedia

    • Assist with planning, recording, and editing podcasts and webinars.
    • Support guest coordination, scheduling, research, and preparation of scripts or content outlines.
    • Provide basic support for video production, short news clips, and other multimedia materials.

    General Responsibilities

    • Help produce timely content aligned with the current news cycle and ACLED’s key data releases.
    • Support media training logistics and preparation of training materials.
    • Participate in occasional out-of-hours work as part of a duty Rota; time off in lieu will be provided.
    • Travel occasionally to conferences, ACLED meetings, or to support recording or filming projects if necessary.

    Skills and Experience

    ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

    Essential:

    • Bachelor’s degree with two to four years’ experience in media relations, digital communications, journalism, or a related field.
    • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex information into clear and engaging content.
    • Understanding of the media landscape and basic principles of digital communications.
    • Experience creating digital content such as social media posts, graphics, or short-form videos.
    • Familiarity with audio or video editing tools (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Premiere, Descript, or similar).
    • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, respond quickly to emerging priorities, and exercise sound judgment.
    • Excellent written English and strong attention to detail.
    • Experience using media monitoring tools, databases, or digital analytics platforms.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with global colleagues and external stakeholders.
    • Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish.
    • Extensive working knowledge of how Tier 1 media outlets commission content.
    • Knowledge of Latin American media landscape.

    Global Crisis Coder (2 Positions)

    Specific responsibilities

    The Global Crisis Coder Will be responsible for the following tasks:

    • Step in as the primary coder for daily data production during major conflict crises globally, as declared by the client or ACLED.
    • Produce daily uploads of ACLED’s conflict event data, utilizing existing sourcing lists, methodologies, and translation tools.
    • Execute the daily data upload using the existing expedited data process and on client portals.
    • Maintain the same data quality and output as regular weekly releases.
    • Serve as the primary coder during a crisis, receiving local expert knowledge and data review support from the Researchers.
    • Support in coordinating crisis coding by maintaining active communication between the Researcher(s), desk management, and the crisis coder team.

    When not actively coding for a crisis, contribute to the work of the Quality Assurance team or the regional desks. Such tasks can include but are not limited to:

    • Assist in the coding and review of new sources or supplemental data.
    • Monitor data submissions for accuracy, consistency, and methodological compliance, identifying trends, gaps, or changes, and implementing corrective actions through regular QA checks and the new monthly Final Review system.
    • Support larger QA projects, plan and coordinate QA-specific reviews using Asana, aligning tasks and activities with team priorities and timelines.
    • Contribute to the development of ACLED methodology through reviewing resources and familiarizing themselves with ACLED guides, FAQs, and other materials.
    • Provide specific ad hoc support to GDC Desks on real-time coding and other coding-related needs;
    • Engage in methodology and QA discussions during weekly team meetings.
    • Other ad hoc responsibilities as defined by the Supervisor. 

    Skills and Experience

    ACLED is seeking applicants who meet the following requirements/skills:

    • Ability to be flexible and adaptable when facing new coding situations, ad-hoc work assignments, and shifts in focus (essential).
    • In-depth knowledge of ACLED’s general methodology, multiple regional methodologies, and commitment to data accuracy (essential).
    • Familiarity with coding rules in Africa and/or the Middle East is highly desired.
    • Showed versatility by taking on different roles and providing ad-hoc assistance across various desks.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data considering regional conflict context (essential). 
    • Strong proficiency in Excel (essential); experience with formulas and data manipulation, including handling large datasets (extracting, combining, and modifying data) while ensuring data accuracy and integrity; experience with PowerBI and Tableau are a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, keep deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively and work under pressure of daily deadlines within crisis situations.
    • Problem solving and result-oriented approach, with high capacity for time management and strong communication skills.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and openness to feedback (essential).
    • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills. 
    • Fluency in other languages, particularly French, and/or Arabic, is highly desired.
    • Candidates located in Asia or the Americas timezones are highly preferred.
    • Availability to work on weekends. Standard working days are Monday to Friday. However, weekend work may be required during "crisis coding" periods.
