    Deputy Head Teacher, Middle School

    The position

    The Deputy Head Teacher (Middle School) will report to the Senior School Head Teacher and work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, department heads, and other staff in ensuring that the highest standards of teaching and learning are practiced throughout the school, with a key focus on the Middle Years Programme (IBMYP, Grades 6 to 8), and in line with the school’s strategic plan.

    S/he takes on a suitable teaching allocation, has a profound understanding of the needs of students in the relevant age group and the IB Middle Years Programme, ensures the provision of adequate pastoral support for students and is a collaborative, passionate, globally-minded individual with excellent organizational and time-management skills.     Key Responsibilities

    Deputy Head Teacher (Middle School)

    • Supports the Head of Senior School and provides effective leadership in the development and successful implementation structures and processes that support IBMYP students, especially in grades 6 to 8
    • Contributes to the production of a timetable that meets the learning needs of students and the requirements of the MYP
    • Ensures adequate pastoral support for students in grades 6 to 8
    • Role-models best practices in teaching and learning
    • Monitors assessment, reporting and data management
    • Contributes to staff performance management, School Policy development and implementation, ongoing professional development and staff recruitment

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.)
    • 5 years of IB Middle Years’ Programme and/or IB Diploma outstanding teaching experience as well as previous Middle Years’ Programme and/or IB Diploma leadership experience in an IB World School

    Nurse, Mombasa Schools

    The position

    To provide school health services, which include health screening, treatment of minor ailments, coordinating referrals to medical providers, spearheading the promotion of health, and provision of the safe school environment for staff and students.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implementing the relevant school health policies and guidelines paying attention to the relevant school and public health laws and regulations
    • Carry out all duties to nursing and first aid applications
    • Serves as the expert in the school to meet student health needs, with an understanding of normal growth and development in children, as well as children with special health needs
    • Monitors disease outbreak amongst children and institutes infection control measures to prevent the spread
    • Is responsible to assess the school environment for the safety of children and provides the necessary advice to school administration about potential risks
    • Takes lead in health promotion and screening programs in the school, and is conversant with referral procedures to health providers
    • The school nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment

    • Nursing Diploma or Equivalent from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • 3 -5 year of related experience preferred in a school setting
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya

    Head Teacher, Aga Khan Academy Junior School

    The position

    The Head Teacher will be responsible for the pedagogical and administrative management of Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Junior School, provision of high-quality education and support the school’s positioning as an IB World School of Excellence in Nairobi and as an integral part of the Academy.

    S/he will drive the academic and extra-curricular programmes of the school, provide leadership for the students and staff, monitor performance against targets and quality indicators, and oversee day-to-day operations of the school.

    Key responsibilities

    • In consultation with the AKES,K Leadership team, develop annual objectives, school development plan, and quality indicators that ensure delivery of a relevant, high-quality education
    • Monitor school, staff, and student performance conduct a school self-evaluation and provide senior leaders with regular reports on progress achieved against strategic and operational goals
    • Strengthen the implementation and continued performance and success of the IBO-PYP curriculum and monitor the PYP action plan, enabling AKJAN to become a model school in the implementation of this curriculum
    • Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to meet and maintain authorisation requirements for the IBO.  Where required, ensure plans for CIS accreditation are developed, tracked and target dates met
    • Ensure systems are in place for tracking individual students and their progress through the school year and through the school, identify areas where students need additional support to ensure “no child is left behind”
    • Build a high-performance team, committed to achieving the vision of the school
    • Manage the budget, resources and assets of the school, and ensure that all school funds are appropriately allocated and administered as specified in the school’s financial plan

    The requirements

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education/ a post-graduate degree in Education from an accredited university, with qualifications in IB Primary Years Programme Teaching and Teacher Service Commission registration
    • At least five years’ experience in international curriculum schools, including experience in the International Baccalaureate system and at least two years as head of a primary school
    • Good understanding of, and experience in curriculum management, design, implementation and evaluation
    • Understanding of 21st century education practices, strategies for raising students’ achievement and effective frameworks for school improvement planning and self-evaluation
    • Experience in the developing world and in Africa will be highly desirable
