    Administrative Assistant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics Affairs and Research and Senior Faculty Members in actively leading, managing, documenting and reporting strategy documents.
    • Coordinate strategic performance measure, data collection, capture, analysis, reporting, and action planning.
    • Provide analytical capability to support deeper analysis of academic performance and organizational capability to support decisions about academic strategy adjustment and execution.
    • Prepare, maintain, and present the academic division Strategic Performance Report and other strategy documents to internal audiences.
    • Facilitate Academic process analysis, improvement and automation in support of achieving CUEA’s academic strategic goals.
    • Work closely and provide proactive administrative support to the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics Affairs and Research and senior faculty, ensuring the consistent application of all policies and procedures.
    • Plan and manage own workflow, anticipating obstacles, and juggling priorities.
    • Comply with data protection legislation; manage office files and filing (both electronic
    • and hard copy), archiving or disposal of documents when appropriate.
    • Administrative assistant
    • Produce information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
    • Conserves the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics Affairs and Research’s time by reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; initiating telecommunications.
    • Represents the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics Affairs and Research by attending meetings in his absence.
    • Maintains the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics Affairs and Research’s appointment schedule by organizing and coordinating academic meetings, and Conferences.
    • Perform any other duty as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

    Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Competences:

    • 5+ years of experience in analytics, Management, Governance, or management consulting firms or 3+ years of University management experience in academia and strategy related roles.
    • A master’s degree in Economics, Managerial Studies, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or related fields.
    • Professional experience and acumen in project management, or designing operating models is an added advantage
    • Adept in creating synergy, building high level professional relationships, networking, consulting, communicating and forming strategic alliances with Senior faculty towards academic strategy implementation
    • High level of skill in qualitative and quantitative analysis, and process design and analysis.
    • Demonstrated proficiency communication both oral and written.
    • Ability to manage performance measurement systems within a large organization.
    • High level of skill in customer service in a consulting-style relationship.
    • Ability to teach or coach others to implement performance measurement and conduct performance conversations.
    • Must be a person of integrity with high moral standards.
    • Should be proficient in MS office applications.

    Director Research

    Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Research

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • To promote and coordinate relevant scientific research in the Faculties, Departments and Centres of CUEA;
    • To encourage interdisciplinary research between the Faculties, Centres and the departments of CUEA and relevant Catholic Institutions throughout AMECEA;
    • To liaise with staff engaged in research, to monitor the research that is current, and to assist where necessary when obstacles are encountered;
    • To organize and coordinate, with the facilitators, staff seminars, dissemination workshops, etc. and to prepare final research reports for publication;
    • To chair the CUEA Research Committee and to prepare, for assessment, the research proposals submitted for funding;
    • To prepare the Eastern Africa Journal for Humanities and Sciences;
    • To prepare the departmental annual report;
    • To check that the departmental resources are used for the purposes for which they were allocated, and to prepare the provisional budget for submission to the Financial Administrator;
    • To actively engage in research projects;
    • To participate through ex-officio membership in committees, and membership in adhoc committees;
    • Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Competences:

    • Should be a PhD holder in a relevant field;
    • Evidence of administration experience;
    • At the level of Associate Professor/Professor;
    • Evidence of ongoing research activity and dissemination of research findings, including a reasonable record of publications in accredited and/or internationally-recognized journals;
    • A substantial record of high quality scholarship and research relative to others in the same field, evidenced by a record of high quality publications in appropriate academic journals;
    • Capacity to initiate, manage and supervise research, including research at doctoral level, to attract research students and/or research projects and funding, and to develop research capacity;
    • Professional and academic standing in the field of specialization;
    • Where appropriate, advanced research skills or capacity in the relevant discipline or field and participation in development programmes. Must have demonstrated strong research and academic leadership for example by serving on university committees, professional and academic associations, acting as head of division or discipline, with competencies to serve as head of research division;
    • Service to the University either at departmental or institutional level and ability to take on administrative responsibilities at departmental level;
    • Academic and/or professional participation at national and/or international level;
    • Evidence of Community Service activities.

    • Should demonstrate outstanding administrative, organizing, staff mobilization and managerial skills;

    Systems Administrator

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for setting up, configuration and fine-tuning of various ICT systems at the university.
    2. Ensure that all the systems regularly patched, backed up (onsite and offsite) and tested for recovery
    3. Ensure the availability of computer resources by managing disaster prevention and recovery efforts.
    4. Manage disaster recovery plans to ensure the security of all ICT systems
    5. Co-ordinate testing and implementation of system upgrades, and new installations
    6. Systems capacity and licensing analysis, planning and growth to meet current and future demands
    7. Monitor systems performance and generate weekly logs for the various systems
    8. Detection of systems security breaches and prevention of their recurrence
    9. Effectively participate in development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to information systems
    10. Maintain inventory of all the hardware and software resources
    11. Perform any other duty as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
    12. Systems Administrator

    Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Competences:

    • A degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or a related field.
    • At least four (4) years’ of experience as a Systems Administrator in a busy institution;
    • High Level and practically demonstrable knowledge in Unix/Linux operating systems skills
    • High Level and practically demonstrable knowledge in Windows operating systems skills
    • Experience with cloud-based solutions and virtualization tools such as Vmware VSphere, Proxmox VE or XenServer
    • Experience with network monitoring tools such as Nagios and Cacti
    • Experience with setting up and administration of firewall solutions such as Pfsense
    • Experience with setting up and administration of OpenVPN
    • Good understanding and experience with Library Management Systems such as VSMART or KOHA
    • Good understanding and experience with Learning Management systems such as Moodle LMS
    • Good understanding and experience in managing audio/video conferencing solutions
    • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
    • High sense of integrity and organizational ability
    • Be of high Christian morals, values and maturity
