    Business Development Officer

     REF: BDO/12/21

    Our client, a medium sized, licensed Non Withdrawable Deposit-Taking SACCO based in Nairobi is seeking to fill a vacant position of Business Development Officer (BDO). Reporting to the General Manager, BDO will have the overall responsibility of driving business development functions of the society. The officer will provide support to credit and education committee with the aim of increasing Sacco growth in areas like loan growth, deposit growth, revenue and membership growth. The marketing role is essential for overseeing the implementation of strategic pillar on membership.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Develop comprehensive Marketing plan for each financial year.
    • Develop various marketing strategies as per customer segments and needs.
    • Develop marketing communication materials for new member recruitment and Sacco product marketing.
    • Identify and implement various marketing activities that will lead to new members recruitment and SACCO product uptake
    • Prepare marketing and advertisement budgets in liaison with the manager to ensure sufficient and sustainable funding for the marketing and advertisement functions.
    • Develop appropriate marketing communication to address the intended purpose.
    • Conduct market research on current trends in the industry, members’ desired needs and develop strategies for fulfilling those needs.
    • Work with the General Manager to prepare proposals for partnership opportunities and own the entire process.
    • Produce valuable and engaging content for our website and the newsletter.
    • Measure and report performance of marketing campaigns, gain insight and assess against goals.

    Job Knowledge and skills

    • Degree in marketing or a related field.
    • Must have at least 3years marketing experience especially in the co-operative and banking sectors. Must demonstrate experience in business development together with the passion and attitude required for the job.
    • Proven experience in identifying target audiences and capacity to creatively devise leading channels and marketing campaigns that engage, educate and motivate.
    • Good interpersonal skills whereby he/she must be a good listener and be able to understand the needs of each member.
    • Have a good personal communication skills and be able to generate confidence and loyalty from the general membership.
    • Numerically literate, comfortable working with numbers, making sense of metrics and processing figures with spreadsheets.
    • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement.
    • Proven track record of achievements in the business development

    Skills, Competencies and Experience

    The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and competencies:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, IT or related field from a recognized university.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in software development, data analysis and reporting as well as  2 years’ experience with working in web based Java solutions (Apache Wicket, Tomcat/Jetty, GUICE/Spring, Solr, Webservices/Jersey/REST/Spring) 
    • Excellent understanding of server-side technologies (e.g. Node.js, Go, Ruby on Rails, Java, PHP, .Net) and client-side languages and frameworks (e.g. Javascript, AngularJS, ReactJS) 
    • Knowledge of designing RESTful APIs, SSO / OAuth, LDAP and Search Technologies
    • Knowledge of Agile software development practices
    • Experience with a least one JS framework/Libraries – React, Angular, Vue.js, Ember, JQuery, JQWidgets, Bootstrap, Very good knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and an understanding of Unix and Linux.
    • Excellent understanding of SQL database fundamentals (for MSSQL, Oracle etc), other programming tools and languages particularly C#, ASP.NET, MVC, HTML/CSS, XML 
    • Experience working in an agile environment with DevOps processes, workflows and tools like TFS, GIT, Jenkins, or Docker will be a plus.

    Data Engineer

    Reporting to the Head – Business Intelligence, the Data Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, testing, evaluating, and implementing data solutions and data architecture design.

    The Role

    Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:

    • Creation, scheduling, testing, deployment, and maintenance, of data pipeline from a different source to required destination with the required transformations for reporting (ETL).
    • Deployment of data science models.
    • Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets using statistical techniques and provide reports. Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources, maintain databases/data systems, and apply ETL procedures to normalize data.
    • Gather information from business users to understand their detailed requirements and expectations, analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modelling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgement and statistical tests and develop data structures to support the generation of business insights and strategy.
    • Carry out analysis of requirements and recommend solutions to address user requirements. Manage the queue of requests and communicate to the appropriate advanced analytics, BI or data management functions.
    • Assist in preparing system definition/specification by the users highlighting technical requirements and roll out BI Solutions to stakeholders.
    • Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes and tools, identifying areas for improvement, implement high impact changes and get feedback from stakeholders. Make changes to system/database configurations and parameters to accommodate business and technological requirements.
    • Build visualizations to summarize and make presentations to business and other key stakeholders.
    • Filter, clean data and review reports, print outs and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
    • Secure BI solutions by putting adequate controls and restrict access to programs by users in accordance to the requirements of the Bank.
    • Understand Key Performance Measures and Indicators that drive company performance measurement and reporting as well as analytics across functions and understand how these metrics and measures align and track against overall business strategies, goals and objectives.
    • Guide the business in drawing report formats & wireframes and advice on the best approach to transform data and automate reports as well as Design and code reports/dashboards according to user specification with the key objective to deliver reports that will assist in decision-making and control.
    • Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on system configuration or set up, carry out technical user training as required to enable users interpret BI reports as well as deal with data, dashboards and report queries from users and resolve or advise them accordingly.

    Skills, Competencies, and Experience

    The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and competencies:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or any other degree in related fields.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Data engineering, BI & Software Development using Oracle.
    • Strong knowledge and experience with ETL tools (Oracle ODI, Microsoft SSIS,Talend), query languages (Oracle PL/SQL, SQL), programming languages (Java, C# )
    • Experience with relational data modeling, data management and data processing. Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages in analyzing large data sets (Python, SPS, SAS, Excel etc.) will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of Big data tools (Hadoop, Apache Hive, Scala, Kafka, Apache Spark) will be an added advantage
    • Knowledge of visualization tools (OBIEE, Admin tool, Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, click view)
    • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques is desired.
    • Very good knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and a fair knowledge of Unix & Linux.
