    Midwife

    Work Location: Dagahaley Refugee Camp

    Start date: January 2022

    Contract: 12 months renewable based on performance (initial 3 months’ probation contract)

    The selected candidate will be reporting to the Midwife Supervisor.

    Main Purpose

    Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.

    Accountabilities

    • Ensuring the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC 1 and CEmONC 2), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardised protocols.
    • Where PMTCT is implemented, ensuring implementation of the PMTCT protocol in the ANC/delivery and PNC consultations (pre counselling, test and post counselling
    • Collaborating with the medical doctor and /or nurse in the management of Sexual Violence cases
    • Assessing the feasibility for referral of pregnant women form the TBAs to the OPD/MCH for medical evaluation and/or complicated deliveries.
    • Ensuring hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to MSF specifications.
    • Performing cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
    • Guaranteeing a regular and ongoing supply of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities (including monitoring/consumption control/ordering of orders.
    • Properly following up all newborn babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
    • Ensuring patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
    • Supervising that administrative procedures of admissions and hospitalizations comply with MSF protocols , as well as verify patients are properly informed and receive the documents required (birth certificate, vaccination card, etc
    • Participatingin the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwifes and the maternity ward supervisor. Ensure transfer of relevant information to the next shift team (specially identifying risk cases)
    • According to MSF protocols in force, conduct normal deliveries independently
    • Manage obstetric emergencies; identify cases needing referral and send them in time, clean up the newborn, executing and registering first neo-natal medical acts (cutting and cleaning the umbilical cord, vaccination, etc.), detecting possible anomalies/infections of the newborn and reporting them to the doctor, in order to ensure successful interventions
    • Supervises the use of drugs, facilities and obstetric material, in order to ensure, in accordance with number of patients and prescriptions, a rational use as well as pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated, kept under appropriate conditions and above minimum safety point. 

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

    • When necessary ensure that patient who lack autonomy, are supported especially feeding, personal hygiene, movements and their comfort.
    • Ensure sensitization activities and health talks, are carried when necessary a therapeutic education of the patient (and family) using a patient-based approach.
    • Ensure that routine laboratory tests are performed, interpret the results and adapt the approach if necessary
    • Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of medical activities (Make sure that the department registration, patient files, forms, and HIS reports are updated on time and participate in the analysis of these statistics.
    • Providing emotional support and information including daily care of newborns, to patients and partners/caretakers.
    • Triage of patients. (Weight, pulse, blood pressure and temperature)
    • Helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth neonatal death and neonatal abnormalities.
    • Teaching patients with pain management techniques to prepare them for labour.
    • Participate actively in the hospital platform (meetings, committee) and trainings.

    Requirements

    Education

    • Essential Diploma in Kenya registered community health Nursing (KRCHN). Desired Bachelor in Nursing

    Experience

    • Essential working experience of at least two years in midwife activities related jobs. Experience with other NGOs and/or MSF is an asset

    Languages

    • Essential mission language (English); local language an asset (Somali/Kiswahili).

    Pharmacy Technician

    Work Location: Mombasa Project

    Start date: January 2022

    Length of contract: 12 months fixed term contract (based on a 03 month probationary period)

    Main Purpose

    Supporting the drug supply management in the designated facilities under the supervision of the Project Medical Referent and according to MSF health policies and protocols, in order to contribute in the guarantee of the proper management and distribution of drugs and medical devices.

    Accountabilities

    • In cooperation with the Project Medical Referent, assisting in the supervision, management and control of the medical stock in the project in order to avoid ruptures, losses and gross overstock of drugs and other supplies and overseeing and monitoring its storage conditions
    • In cooperation with the Project Medical referent, assisting on a monthly basis with preparation and approval of order requests, ensuring they are completed in timely manner to prevent unnecessary orders in between. Following up on drug ruptures.
    • In cooperation with the other MSF team members, assisting in the supervision, management, follow up and control of medical/supply stock in the MSF office, expat houses, and MSF cars. This includes physical count, ordering and monitoring of expired dates.
    • Assisting with the collection of consumption from facilities on at least a monthly basis and collecting data about number of patients. Cooperating with and assisting the Project Medical Referent in all related monthly reports, and under the NAM supervision, communicating and providing medical data to relevant MSF team members.
    • Improving and following up the monitoring systems in place.
    • Supporting the MoH counterparts in their responsibilities regarding monitoring of drug consumption, stock management and preparing/receiving orders.
    • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
    • Assisting in preparing and organizing training sessions for MSF and MOH staff .
    • Providing programs continuity during supervisor’s absence and handovers; sharing knowledge of program with incoming staff in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.

     

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Qualified pharmacy technician Must be enrolled with Pharmacy and Poisons Board to practice pharmacy

    Experience:

    • 2 years working experience.
    • Experience collaborating with local pharmacy systems (MoHand private) is an asset.
    • Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.

    Languages:

    • English and Kiswahili

    Knowledge:

    Supply Chain Supervisor

    Planning, coordinating, supervising and monitoring on a day-to-day basis the implementation of the supply activities in the project as specified by the line manager, ensuring compliance to MSF standards, protocols and procedures. Including the following tasks:

    1. Order management: Responsible for the supply administration, the correct filing and archiving of supply database and the efficient processing and follow up of orders and requests
    2. Procurement: Responsible for purchase management, in particular the follow up of purchases, preparation, together with the Logistics Manager, market assessments, contracts and supplier evaluations and communication with local suppliers for the status of purchase orders, claims and complaints
    3. Transport and Customs: Ensuring the clearing and the transport of medical and nonmedical goods of the mission and provide info on timelines regarding administrative procedures concerning, import, customs clearance, etc.
    4. Stock management: Controlling quality and costs and the physical state of orders and determines the quantities of products to buy (volume) taking into account the demand and needs of the mission, the availability forecasts, delivery timelines, budget and other relevant factors and monitors stock levels related to monthly consumption figure, expiry dates, excess drugs and possible shortage in the capital
    • Receive orders and deliveries, identifying potential disparities against cargo manifest or others and reporting them, and stores materials in accordance with the system in force, in order to ensure continous availability.
    • Ensure that all items are well organised and correctly stored, well protected, fully identified and easily accessible (cleaness, security, access)
    • Supervise, carries out or participate in regular inventories including EPREP stock
    • Ensures donations/loans are properly managed and recorded through tracking sheets
    1. Communicating with clients, keeping them up to date concerning their orders status (BO confirmation) and prioritizing procurement and transport according to their needs
    2. Coordinating and leading the team under his/her responsibility including the definition of each person’s tasks (daily supervision and checking the quality of their work), drawing up working schedule
    3. Supervising, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required

    Requirements

    Education:           Essential technical diploma, in supply chain

    Experience:         1-2 years in MSF Logistics Department, previous experience in supply chain activities related jobs
