    British Army Training Unit, Kenya (BATUK) delivers world leading infantry training in Kenya with the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) under the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) with the Kenyan Government.

     

    Driver / Maintainer

    • To drive and maintain a multitude of various vehicle types, conducted various driving tasks as directed by Mechanical Transport Foreman or relevant Line Manager.

    Main Duties:

    • You will be expected to have and maintain a clean and valid driving licence.
    • You will be expected to carry out a first parade on a vehicle
    • You will be expected to ensure the safe movement of passengers via means of coach, Troop Carrying Vehicles or any other Personnel Carrying Vehicles, to and from JKIA, Kifaru, NYATI or any other destination specified by MT staff. 
    • You will be expected to ensure the safe movement of freight/stores/weapons/ammunition or fuel via means of SV cargo or ISO container capable vehicle. 
    • You will be expected to carry out basic maintenance on the vehicles, i.e., Changing of canopy, light clusters, bulks, reflectors, mirrors etc. 
    • You will be expected to fully comply with all aspects of BATUK’s Mechanical Transport Standing Orders policy.
    • Timely reporting of all incidents and vehicle faults to the relevant personnel.
    • You will be expected to always ensure compliance with all Traffic Laws and Regulations.

    Secondary Duties:

    • You will be expected to conduct servicing of vehicles.
    • You will be expected to undertake further trade training, ADR (Accord Dangereux Routier) Licence i.e. Dangerous goods movement licence. 
    • You will be expected to undertake specialist vehicle training, Crane, Forklift training if there is a requirement. 
    • You will be expected to carry out any other duties commensurate with the trade/grade as directed by the Line Manager.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Good communication skills to include a good understanding of English language oral and written.
    • Must be a Team Player 
    • Must be well organised and punctual.
    • No Medical Impairments.
    • Must hold a valid Driving Licence for categories B, C1, C, D, D1, D2, D3

    Kitchen Hand

    To work with the kitchen team to produce food for the unit to the highest standard daily for BATUK under direction of the Catering Warrant Officer /Head Chef.

    Main duties:

    • Wash and clean utensils and dishes, return to the Kitchen and make sure they are stored appropriately.
    • Clean food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas, as detail on cleaning schedule.
    • Follow all hygiene and Health and Safety regulations within the Kitchen.
    • Ensure proper use of chemical /cleaning products and ensure they are stored appropriately.
    • Assist the chef in the preparation of food and packed meals, as required.
    • Ensure dining and service areas are set up and cleaned ready for each service

    Secondary duties:

    • Clean up spillages when they occur.
    • Dispose of rubbish.
    • Follow instructions from the chef or nominee.
    • To deploy on exercises and work away from base location when required.
    • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the trade / grade as directed by the MLM.

    Chef

    Main duties

    1. To produce safe food of the required quality and quantity at the correct time. To work within existing Food Safety and Health and Safety at work guidelines. 
    2. Requisition of stock, materials, supplies or equipment for the following days of production. 
    3. To maintain records and input temperature records on a daily basis. 
    4. Conduct all work in a safe clean hygienic manner.
    5. Minimise wastage and report all wastage to line manager.
    6. Must have good knowledge of allergen and be able to brief customers if required.
    7. Cover early/late meals as required.
    8. Work on functions as detailed by the CATWO or Duty chef

    Secondary duties:

    1. Ensure that all equipment used, is in safe working order, checked regularly and serviced.
    2. Report customer compliments and complaints immediately to the shift Supervisor or Manager / RCWO where necessary. 
    3. To ensure that the kitchen fridges are kept clean and tidy stacked correctly with food items wrapped and date stamped. 
    4. Queries and issues relating to dishes, menus and suppliers are cascaded to the RCWO/ Head Chef.
    5. To deploy on exercises and work away from base location when required.
    6. Carry out any other duties commensurate with the trade/grade as directed by the MLM.

     Essential: Qualifications/Experience

    1. Certificate/Diploma qualifications in Culinary Arts from a recognised institution.
    2. Appropriate Food Hygiene Certificate.
    3. Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. 
    4. Good communication and interpersonal skills

    Desirable:

    1. At least 2 years’ experience in the same field.
