    Driver

    DanChurchAid (DCA) is working in Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Busia and Siaya counties with refugees and local communities to enhance peace, livelihoods and resilience. DCA implements projects directly as well as through local partner organizations. DCA is seeking to recruit a dynamic and proactive Kenyan National for the following position: Driver. The position is based in Nakuru County, and reports to the Procurement and Logistics Assistant.

    The main responsibilities of the driver are:

    • Driving and fleet management
    • Ensure safe and secure driving of DCA staff, visitors, assets and support field missions
    • Maintain daily vehicle and motorcycles logs, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil change, servicing, greasing, repairs and oversee that other drives do the same
    • Assist in all areas of Fleet Management including vehicle and motorcycle registration, insurance, maintenance, security, usage monitoring, vehicle ownership transfers and disposal
    • Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents
    • Maintain and ensure availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle and motorcycle: insurance, logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle
    • Oversee and ensure that all vehicles and motorcycles comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
    • Provide general administrative and logistic support as needed
    • Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining required records
    • Assist in the mailing and distribution of publications and payments of bills, as required.
    • Liaise with suppliers to support the ProLog in procurement and logistics functions
    • Assist in managing the daily logistical issues of staff transport services, by working closely with the Finance & Admin Officer and relevant service providers
    • Update staff on various emerging traffic issues in the operational area
    • Follow up on Protocol matters for the organization and its eligible staff
    • Submit applications and follow up with relevant Government Ministries for approval of exemption and regulatory documents, issuance of motor vehicle number plates and logbooks as necessary
    • Log official trips in the official logbooks
    • Perform any other duty as assigned by the supervisor/designate

    Professional Qualification:

    • Minimum secondary school education (KCSE or Equivalent)
    • Valid and clean B-C-E driving License with over three years driving experience
    • Practical knowledge in basic mechanics and vehicle diagnostics
    • Certified defensive driver and possession of basic first aid training and certification
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Kiswahili
    • High level of self-motivation, integrity, commitment to humanitarian and development work
    • Good team player with excellent interpersonal skills

    Project Officer – Insect Farming

    DCA is seeking to recruit an experienced and energetic Kenyan National for the following position: Project Officer – Insect Farming: The position is based in Nakuru, with frequent field travel within Nakuru and to Nyandarua Counties and reports to the Project Coordinator – AgriTech Solutions (PC) based in Nakuru.

    The main responsibilities of the PO are:

    1. Manage all the DCA direct implemented Black Soldier Fly production, commercialisation, and upscaling actions of the project.
    2. Facilitate DCA initiated innovation initiatives at the field level in close consultations with the PC, Area Programme Manager and DCA consortium partners. These will include private sector & academic partners and related innovation incubation and prototyping to enhance uptake of Black Soldier fly farming and commercialisation.
    3. Support the day-to-day implementation of DCA and partner staff project interventions at the field level. This entails development and execution of detailed implementation plans, having a teaching and facilitative role, staff supervision as well as monitoring and evaluation aspects of BSF commercialisation of the project.
    4. Network and coordinate with other field operational I/NGOs, UN Agencies and County Government and explore/advise on possible areas of collaboration/partnerships to enhance program synergy.
    5. Facilitate, support and initiate digitised baseline, monitoring and evaluation data collection and other assessments and generate relevant reports as well as support concept paper development at the field level as part of DCA fundraising efforts.
    6. Facilitate/support collaboration and cross learning among DCA projects & partners through information sharing, exposure visits and active partner participation in DCA platforms/forums.
    7. Facilitate logistical arrangements for DCA staff, consultant field visits and donor visits in consultation with the Project Coordinator.
    8. Perform any other responsibilities as determined and assigned by the Project Coordinator from time to time.

    Professional Qualifications:

    • University level education in Entrepreneurship, Business Development, Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, or any other relevant academic qualification.
    • Capacity to deliver business ideation, linkage, marketing, and capacity building initiatives for small holder farmers is an added advantage
    • Demonstrable capacity to showcase business capacity development and support, more so within the agricultural value chain including training facilitation
    • Demonstrated capacity to showcase enterprise and entrepreneurial action, including incubation, mentorship, and market linkages for better economic outcomes
    • Technical and demonstratable skills and hands on experience on black soldier flies’ production, commercialisation, and upscaling – working closely with small holder farmers and budding entrepreneurs is an added advantage
    • Good interpersonal skills, and a proven team player. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to support teams remotely. Self-driven and results orientated in challenging rural working environments.
    • Experience in training at field/community level and excellent reporting skills. Excellence in English, oral and written.

    Field Extensionists

    DCA is seeking to recruit an experienced and energetic Kenyan National for the following position: Field Extensionist – AgriTech Solutions Project (2 positions); The position holder will be based in Nakuru County and report to the Project Officers (either the Agricultural Extension and Agri-Business  or Fianncial Inclusion and Organisation Capacity Development officer).

    The main responsibilities of the FEO are:

    1. Lead in effective mobilisation, recruitment, onboarding, field-training, and supervision of farmers, farmer groups, lead farmers, phenological observers and group leaders aimed at better agronomic and economic outcomes
    2. Train farmer groups on; better agronomic practices, actions sound organizational management and leadership, village savings and loan scheme, deploy measures to enhance uptake of microinsurance, foster positive social capital for promotion of good practices among the members.
    3. Conduct regular farmer visits and follow-ups to deepen skills and knowledge adoption and practice for better project outcomes.
    4. Lead in the routine day to day monitoring and data management actions including filing of project data, routine data collection, analysis and updating of relevant project statistics
    5. Proactively engage and coordinate with relevant County governments departments, NGOs and other institutions in focus operation area and foster mutual beneficial partnerships.
    6. Prepare weekly action plans and project progress reports to the project officers and area manager aimed implementation of Agri-extension services and Agri-business development, and financial inclusion and organisational capacity development action
    7. Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned by the supervisor

    Professional Qualifications:

    • Technical level education in horticulture, agronomy, agricultural extension, climate smart farming technologies or any other relevant academic qualification.
    • Demonstratable technical skills and hands on experience in climate smart agro-extension services, agri-business support and organisational capacity development, village savings and loan schemes, and deployment of micro-insurance schemes  
    • Having worked for a fresh produce offtaker or with farmers organised as outgrowers is an added advantage.
    • Proffieciency in computer applications
    • Good interpersonal skills and a proven team player. Self-driven and results orientated in challenging rural working environments.
    • Experience in training at field/community level and excellent reporting skills. Excellence in English, oral and written.
