    Manager, Infrastructure and Operating Systems

    Job Purpose

    The job holder is responsible for the Operational functions  and compliance to standards for; Mainframe operations, Open systems operations and Wintel operations. The jobholder is managing the resolution of Incidents raised against Infrastructure and Operating Systems, Systems monitoring tools, preventative maintenance, data backup and restore, capacity and access management and Deployment, including planning and control, installations, hardware and software upgrades, modifications and enhancements and end-of-life replacements.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    • Deployment, including infrastructure- deployment planning and control, installations, hardware and software lifecycle management (upgrades (including capacity), modifications and enhancements and end-of-life replacements)
    • Plan and oversee the successful rollout of new IT services or changes to existing IT services
    • Design and implement efficient procedures for the distribution and installation of changes to IT services
    • Ensure that hardware and software being changed is traceable, secure and that only correct, authorized and tested versions are installed
    • Communicate and manage expectations of the Customer during the planning and rollout of new or changes to existing IT services
    • Agree the exact content and schedule of deployment through liaison with Change management
    • Implement changes to IT services into the operational environment using the controlling processes of Configuration management and Change Management
    • Element Monitoring
    • Set up and maintain the mechanisms for detecting meaningful events.
    • Detect events and incidents that may impact business operations.
    • Respond to alerts that may impact business operations.
    • Develop and manage a preventive maintenance routine
    • Maintain maintenance schedule
    • Ensure scheduled and non – scheduled maintenance is performed and reported
    • Manage Patch deployment
    • Manage the generic application of identified patches across all technical platforms as per identified vulnerabilities and vendor notifications.

    Preferred Qualification and Experience

    • First Degree in Information Technology/ Computer Sciences or equivalent.
    • At least 5 years experience in a similar role, with leadership experience

    Database Administrator

    Job Purpose

    To ensure effective and efficient management and support of Oracle Databases and other Oracle related applications. This also entails analysing, documenting and proposing solutions for bank wide business areas and preparation of both functional and technical database system specifications (FSS and TSS) documents. Focus on database system optimization through analysis and development with respect to the database systems in order to ensure that desired functionality and performance is achieved as required by business. The role is also charged with designing and development of appropriate solutions as required by business to advance tactical and strategic initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    • Ensure availability and performance of the production and test databases that support the core banking application.
    • Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the production nand test databases that support the core banking application.
    • Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the database and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.
    • Responsible for the management and support of Oracle Dataguard solution with a view of ensuring a consistently efficient backup process which ultimately aids IT efforts of meeting the established Service Level Agreements (SLA) with business.
    • Responsible for a problem escalation to third parties as appropriate
    • Monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.

    • Responsible for providing trend analysis (including capacity and utilisation analysis) to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
    • Support and maintenance of the production and test databases according to group standards
    • Responsible for all oracle developments that are aimed at ensuring efficient management and use of the databases and ultimately aid all the application initiatives.
    • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
    • Responsible for testing all Oracle database changes including fixes, patches and upgrades in line with laid down change control policies.
    • Responsible for implementation and release of database changes after thorough and comprehensive tests with sufficient engagement with all stakeholders e.g. application and infrastructure teas.
    • Planning and budgeting for the purchase of new hardware and software licenses (IT Strategy, end of life, out of warranty)
    • Ensure compliance on licensing for Oracle databases through periodic review (half-yearly), proactive resolution of license compliance exposures and to adequately prepare for software maintenance renewals
    • Come up with business continuity management related strategies for Oracle databases to enable the oracle database related services to be available within agreed RTO/RPO
    • Infrastructure capacity planning for future business projected growth
    • Optimisation of the existing infrastructure to achieve optimal performance
    • Participate in IT/Business projects implementation as assigned.

    Preferred Qualification and Experience

    • First Degree in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Sciences or equivalent
    • At least 7 years’ experience in design and administration of logical and relational databases or systems analysis required. Proficiency in Oracle versions 10g, 11g and 12c, Oracle cloud control and Oracle ASM.
    • Must have knowledge of the bank’s core systems
    • Technically competent with knowledge of systems management, development and implementation methods and infrastructure.

    Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

    • Other qualifications, certifications or professional memberships: Oracle certified professional
    • Strong understanding of Oracle relational databases, data structures and SQL
    • Preferred other qualifications, certifications or professional memberships Business Continuity certification and ITIL will be an added advantage

    Economist

    Job Purpose

    Provide advice to the Standard Bank Group companies and their clients on macroeconomic developments.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    • Real sector analysis
    • Compile sectoral profiles of the economy to be shared with internal and external stakeholders
    • Provide sector specific forecasts of the economy
    • Develop and compile databases of sector specific information
    • Liaise with policy makers, industry regulators and representative bodies
    • Fixed income and currency strategy
    • Analyze economic and financial market developments to identify potentially profitable trade ideas in the FX and fixed income markets
    • Write topical and timely flash notes on economic and market developments
    • Assist the Head of macroeconomic research in contributing to Africa-wide publications
    • Provide economic information assisting internal and external clients in planning
    • Provide economic and market commentary and forecasts to the bank’s clients
    • Provide macroeconomic input into the equity research proces.
    • Contribute to flagship publications of the research team (African Markets Revealed, African Local Markets Monthly, Africa Sovereign Research, various strategy and/or daily pieces). Cover and monitored key macroeconomic and market events via ad-hoc external flash notes and internal publications.
    • Develop relationships with African policy makers, central bank officials and other market regulators.
    • Support the sales team in terms of client coverage on an on-going basis (client meetings, calls, Bloomberg/Reuters chats).
    • Participate in marketing road shows in various offshore distribution hubs.
    • Organize client road shows for international investors.
    • Provide analytical support to the Eurobond, local currency fixed income, FX and equity trading desks.
    • Advised senior management in various in-country offices on East Africa research and strategy

    Preferred Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Economics or a Finance related course.
    • 5-7 years work experience in an economic research writing capacity or a similar environment is desirable.

    Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

    • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
    • Strong macro-economics analysis , economic modelling and report writing skills
    • Ability to identify the key issues on opportunities and develop a structured approach to resolving these issues
    • Ability to gather knowledge and research effectively
    • Technical areas of expertise should encompass knowledge of relevant legal and tax legislation
