    Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Ending Violence Against Women Girls Lead.

    Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Ending Violence Against Women Girls Lead  (SRHR & EVAWG) Lead – FNT/EOI/11/2022

    We are currently seeking to engage a passionate, dynamic, and enthusiastic SRHR expert, on a two year contract, to lead the SRHR thematic area. The holder of the position will report to the Policy and Programme Manager. This is a full-time position and will be based at FEMNET’s secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Job purpose

    The SRHR Lead will provide strategic leadership in technical design and management of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights projects; and ensure that  FEMNET SRHR  programs address the needs and aspirations of African Women and Girls; are grounded on Rights and Feminist principles; and embed intersectionality.The holder will work closely with diverse teams to formulate and implement the annual SRHR  work plan in accordance to FEMNET’s contractual obligations and internal policies as well as ensure quality and standard  reports are submitted on time and responding to strategy.

    • Functionally reports to: Policy and Programme Manager
    • Supervises: SRHR and EVAWG Coordinator and Officer
    • Terms of Reference

    Main Duties include:

    Program/Project Management

    • Design and implement SRHR projects to address the needs and aspirations of Women and Girls;
    • Embed intersectionality in FEMNET SRHR and EVAWG work by ensuring needs of women and girls in their diversity are justly represented
    • Lead and manage SRHR and EVAWG project trends analysis for agility and evolvement of programme strategies.
    • In collaboration with the finance team support drafting and monitoring of SRHR and EVAWG project budgets and prepare budget amendments where necessary.
    • Manage SRHR and EVAWG projects staff and support their development through performance-based management, leadership, and job design
    • Monitor and manage identified SRHR and EVAWG projects risks using accepted FEMNET frameworks

    Monitoring Evaluation and Learning

    • Work closely with Monitoring and Evaluation Lead to ensure project(s) implementation is aligned monitoring and evaluation framework.
    • Facilitate timely monitoring and evaluation of SRHR and EVAWG projects.
    • Ensure SRHR project team prepare their quarterly and annual narrative and financial reports in line with the organization and projects M& E frameworks.

    Policy, Advocacy and Research

    • Lead FEMNET evidence-based advocacy on SRHR and EVAWG Lead in generating advocacy evidence to high impact influencing, these may include but not limited to research project, policy paper and briefs, opinion pieces etc
    • Map all key spaces essential for influencing change in SRHR and EVAWG in the continent and in the globe
    • Facilitate African women’s meaningful and strategic participation in various national, sub-regional, regional and global spaces.
    • Lead and manage strategic partnerships with support from the Program Manager and Executive Director
    • Represent FEMNET in different advocacy and influencing spaces.

    Resource Mobilization and Sustainability

    • Co-Lead and Coordinate resource mobilization through development of programme/project proposals, identifying and building mutually beneficial relationships with potential partners
    • Maintain good and strong relationships with all FEMNET donors.
    • Ensuring accountability and delivery of high impact programmes and co-lead in implementing the Resource Mobilization Strategy for SRHR and EVAWG portfolio.
    • Ensure effective and efficient financial and resource management of SRHR projects.

    Support to Members

    • Provide technical expertise to Member organisations in design of SRHR projects;
    • Provide capacity building to members in SRHRs;

    Information and Communication

    • Ensure timely and consistency project communication, within the team, staff, members, partners and general public.
    • Facilitate creative communication to advance SRHR and EVAWG in Africa
    • Work closely with communications team to ensure communication is effectively used as a tool to mobilize and organize African women and girls towards realization of SRHR.
    • Work closely with communication and branding team to ensure FEMNET became the go to organization when it comes to SRHR in Africa by producing and packaging robust, cutting edge communication products.
    • Work closely with communication team and partners to ensure FEMNET profile proactively and strategically, partners work on SRHR.

    Minimum requirements, qualifications, skills and experience

    Education and Experience

    • Undergraduate or master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Anthropology, Gender Studies or related field.
    • At least 5 years experiences in Project planning, Design and Management; including programme/project conceptualisation, development, resource mobilization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
    • Advanced training on issues of Human Rights, Women Rights, Social Justice, Law, and Sexual reproductive Health rights will be an added advantage.
    • Demonstrate commitment and experience in gender and development and/or women’s human rights organising in Africa in all of its diversity—including a commitment to African women’s autonomy and choice and African Feminist Principles
    • Experience working at the African regional level and international levels including working with African Union Institutions/Organs and UN Bodies
    • Participatory monitoring and evaluation of programmes;
    • Fundraising for SRHR and Women Led and Rights related projects;
    • Advocating for policies in both national, regional and global spaces, Experience in managing partnerships and networks ; Strong oral and written communication skills to a wide range of audiences at local, regional and international levels.
    • Demonstrated capacity to communicate and work in both English and French.
    • Must be willing to travel frequently within Africa and internationally

    Economic Justice Lead

    The economic justice and rights programme continues to generate knowledge through working with a critical mass of women to conduct research to inform advocacy; as well as supporting advocacy initiatives by FEMNET members especially linking their efforts to not just respond to the impacts of but also influence macroeconomic policies and frameworks to work for them.

    Job Purpose

    FEMNET is seeking to recruit a dynamic, passionate, economist to serve as Economic Justice (EJ) Lead on a 2-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds, to co-create, shape, lead, strengthen and deliver FEMNET’s Economic Justice work. The lead will also be instrumental in building and strengthening solidarity within FEMNET membership, with close allies and partners and with broader Economic Justice Movements and Social Movements.

    • Functionally Reports to: Policy Programme Manager
    • Supervises: Economic Justice and Rights Officer and Assistant

    Main duties include

    • Building Feminist Power: At the core of the FEMNET Economic Justice work, is commitment to change and shape spaces and macroeconomic policies.  Building collective feminist power is invaluable means to that end. African Feminist Economic Justice lead will, in collaboration with other thematic leaders, partners and allies
    • Assess trends and systematic change relevant to economic justice and social justice, focusing on the macroeconomic policies, practices, systems and structures.
    • Create, generate and collate body of knowledge on African Feminist Economics through research, feminist analysis and documentation.
    • Lead in creating robust, cutting edge influencing strategy to ensure concrete changes are attained in different policy process that FEMNET engages that include, AU, AGA, AfCTA, CSW, World Bank Annuals, Financing for development, BRICs Feminist Watch, Gender and Trade Network,
    • Convene, support and make discernible engagement of African women and girls and FEMNET members across the 5 African regions and diaspora in different policy spaces.
    • Lead in advocating for the network to have space in speaking engagements that are authentic with facts and robust feminist analysis.
    • Draft analytical papers/blogs on feminist analysis of key macroeconomic issues that include but not limited to IFFs, debt, tax justice, Gender transformative budgeting, private and public policies.
    • Support the integration of feminist economic analysis in the key thematic focus of FEMNET-:
    • Strengthening Solidarity: To alter relations of power and disrupt world economic order, there is a need to strengthen solidarity across horizontal and vertical socioeconomic and geographical stratifications.  To that end, EJ Lead will
    • Build the capacity of women’s rights organizations and activists to enhance their knowledge to inform their engagement and action in economic justice and rights.
    • Coordinate and curate with relevant partners the annual African Feminist Macroeconomic Academy (AFMA), public lectures and follow up on action points.
    • Coordinate and nurture a community of African Feminists working on the macroeconomic policies (AFMA alumni)
    • Design and lead solidarity actions within FEMNET membership and across the broader movements.
    • Build and strengthen allies with gender equality and social justice advocates with other traditional economic justice allies and partners.
    • Amplifying voices: FEMNET draw her strength from more than 800 members across 50 African countries and the diaspora. EJ lead will
    • Ensure FEMNET members are equitably represented in both internal and external engagements.
    • Document in various format African women lived realities and their quest to Economic Justice making an intricate link between macro and micro economics.
    • Work closely with the VOICE team to amplify and sustain voices of African women and girls in all their diversities and their demand to Economic Justice
    • In collaboration with VOICE team, popularize knowledge products produced by FEMNET and her members to ensure easy accessibility, debunk and simplify complex concepts for driving advocacy.

    Nurturing FEMNET Soul: EJ lead will as a member of the FEMNET family embrace the African feminist principles, nurture teamwork embracing diversity, inclusion and creativity in a multi- cultural environment and to that end will:

    • Embrace African leadership principles and ensure FEMNET lives and breath the African Feminist organization principles and values.
    • Directly manage and lead Economic Justice team and ensure their safety and wellbeing as the first point of contact in collaboration with other departments and units
    • Work closely with other thematic leads to ensure cross learning and holistic implementation of FEMNET programs
    • Ensure timely and impactful implementation of all EJ actions
    • Manage development partners relations and ensure all contractual obligations under Economic Justice portfolio are served and fulfilled
    • Manage budget for the Economic Justice portfolio while working closely with finance team to maintain highest level of financial integrity and compliance.
    • In collaboration with Monitoring and Learning lead, ensure timely and adequate documentation, periodic monitoring, adaptive learning and systematic evaluation of the Economic Justice programs

    Experience, Skills competencies and qualifications:

    Academic Qualifications

    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Gender, Law or any other relevant discipline from a recognised university
    • Master’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognised university.

     Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • 4 – 7 years in a senior program management position, working on macroeconomic policies, public policy issues and using a gendered analysis of macroeconomics.
    • Experience working at the African regional level and/or international levels including experience working with African Union Institutions/Organs and UN Bodies.
    • Knowledge and experience with international grant making processes and compliance
    • Strong Information Technology (IT) & Information System (IS) skills, including Microsoft Office packages, ERPs etc
    • Proven research, conceptual, analytical skills and ability to apply them in inter-disciplinary contexts
    • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment

    Policy and Programme Manager

    Policy and Programme Manager – Ref : FNT/EOI/23/2022

    We are currently seeking an exceptional, passionate, dynamic, and gender equality expert to join us, as The Policy and Programme Manager (PPM). Reporting to the Executive Director, the PPM will coordinate FEMNET’s programmes and projects ensuring that the organisation takes advantage of the synergies that enhance the effectiveness of the Network’s Programmes and activities. This is a full-time role based in FEMNET’s secretariat in Nairobi Kenya.

    Job purpose

    The Policy and Programme Manager will contribute to the conceptualisation of the initiatives and projects to be undertaken under the five key thematic areas – Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Economic Justice and Rights, Women Leadership, Climate Justice and Natural Resources Governance, and Violence Against Women and Girls. The holder of the position will work closely with diverse teams to formulate and implement the annual work plan for the Network in accordance with FEMNET’s contractual obligations and internal policies and processes. The PPM will ensure quality reports are done on a timely basis meeting the necessary standards and responding to strategy. The position holder is also responsible to consult with the Executive Director on matters of programme staff and Board of Directors’ development and ensure the implementation of the agreed plans and monitor progress. The PPM will work closely with the Executive Director and Finance and Operations Manager to ensure that FEMNET has the resources required to sustain the institutional and programmes’ related obligations.

    Main Duties include:

    Mission, Strategy and Systems

    • Provide strategic oversight, technical design and management of programmes to ensure timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
    • Works closely with Executive Director in order to develop and fulfil FEMNET mission and strategic goals, including formulation and implementation of the next strategic plan (2019-2023)
    • Support the establishment and compliance with systems, policies and procedures.
    • Work with the Executive Director, programme staff and other departments to develop, implement and evaluate strategic plans and corresponding work plans in order to improve performance standards and organisational effectiveness.
    • Lead and manage program trends analysis for agility and evolvement of programme strategies.
    • In collaboration with the Head of Finance and Operations, support drafting and monitoring of program budgets and prepare budget amendments where necessary.

    Management and Advisory

    • Provide management advisory on all aspects of program, and be a member of the executive management team
    • Manage staff development through performance-based management, leadership and job designs
    • Support the Executive Director in duties relating to the Board including preparing and Organising the Board Calendar and full Board meetings
    • Deputise and represent the Executive Director in her absence or as may be required.
    • Support effective and efficient operation of the FEMNET Secretariat including: Organisational development, program support, technical assistance
    • Manage the identified risks associated with programmes using generally accepted frameworks and standards.
    • Membership strengthening and movement building and Advocacy
    • Support the recruitment and retention of diverse and strong like-minded Organisations and individuals to join FEMNET network
    • Facilitate effective collaboration between FEMNET Secretariat, members and the broader Women’s movement in Africa and globally.
    • Ensure interlinkages and complementarity of the Secretariat and members work.
    • Lead in initiating co-creation of programme activities with relevant stakeholders.

    Monitoring Evaluation and Learning

    • Lead Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning by ensuring that all Program staff prepare their quarterly reports in line with the M& E framework of the organisation, and consolidation into annual narrative reports for internal learning and sharing with different stakeholders including the Board and Members.
    • Ensure the timely preparation of narrative and financial reports for on-going programmes/projects according to FEMNET’s contractual obligations in collaboration with relevant project leads and operations department, and coordinate grant closures in line with generally accepted practices, donor requirements and FEMNET policies and procedures.

    Resource Mobilisation and Sustainability

    • Co-lead and Coordinate resource mobilisation through development of programme/project proposals, identifying and building mutually beneficial relationships with potential partners and ensure that Grant agreements are adhered to accordingly.
    • Ensure effective and efficient financial and resource management of all programmes
    • Support and strategically contribute to FEMNET’s financial sustainability (FS) in order to strengthen FEMNET’s ability to realize its strategic goals in pursuit of the Organisation’s mission.

    Specific responsibility to the (Financial Sustainability), include:

    • Working closely with Board members and staff to secure and maintain long-term, flexible and diverse sources of funding to sustain FEMNET’s operations and programmes towards achieving its strategic goals.
    • In line with the above maintain good and strong relationships with all FEMNET donors, ensuring accountability and delivery of high impact programmes and co-lead in implementing the Resource Mobilisation Strategy.

    Communication and Public Relations

    • Generally, support improvement of the ability of programme staff involved in information provision to stakeholder, to ensure that all persons who need our services know how to access them.
    • Support the development and maintenance of strategic relationship with key stakeholders in the women’s movement in Africa and globally including CSOs, UN Agencies, African Union Institutions and Organs, Governments and progressive Private Sectors.
    • Facilitate modelling of public relations in line with each key stakeholder segments.
    • Facilitate innovative information and knowledge sharing internally and externally, using the most common and available traditional and modern channels.
    • Represent FEMNET in different for a as may be agreed upon with the Executive Director.

    • Experience working at the African regional level and international levels including working with African Union Institutions/Organs and UN Bodies.
    • Demonstrate experience in programme/project management, including programme/project conceptualisation, development, resource mobilisation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
    • Demonstrate training and/or experience in programme/project management, including programme/project conceptualisation, development, resource mobilisation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
    • Proven experience in managing and leading teams and staff team building.
