    Medical Officer, Outreach Clinic Naivasha

    Responsibilities:

    • Review and examine patients consistently by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies in compliance with evidence based practice and established protocols.
    • Monitor acute and chronically ill patients’ progress on a regular basis.
    • Initiate discussions with patients and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services. 
    • When necessary, carry out privileged and potentially life-saving emergency surgical and medical procedures.
    • Provide evidence based screening and wellness examinations, risk assessment, early detection and education on prevention of illness.
    • Initiate timely discussions with relevant consultants/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
    • Establish links with clinic management and the main hospital to ensure smooth and efficient referral of patients.
    • Work closely with members of the clinical and non-clinical teams to provide patient centric, coordinated care, reduce errors and waste and create efficiency in resource utilization.
    • Actively participate in clinic quality initiatives in collaboration with the clinic management and Quality and Patient Safety team.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent
    • Successful completion of at least 2-years post-graduate Internship.
    • Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
    • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

    Laboratory Technologist, IHD Office

    Job Summary

    The Lab Technician will support the research project by performing routine diagnostic tests, processing and analyzing samples, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory results.

    Responsibilities

    • Collect biological samples (e.g., blood, urine) from study participants.
    • Process and prepare samples for analysis, including centrifugation and preservation.
    • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and transportation of samples to maintain their integrity
    • Conduct routine diagnostic tests such as urinalysis, full hemogram, VDRL STI testing (Gene expert), and other relevant assays.
    • Perform initial laboratory analysis and report findings to the research team
    • Record and maintain accurate laboratory records and logs.
    • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of laboratory data.
    • Record laboratory results into electronic data capture systems and maintain accurate records
    • Work closely with the research team to coordinate sample collection, storage and transfers.
    • Adhere to all laboratory safety and biosafety protocols.
    • Stay updated with the latest developments in laboratory technology and diagnostics
    • Ensure proper storage of study documents/ samples.
    • Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and submit timely reports on data collection activities.

    Requirements

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
    • Valid laboratory technologist license in Kenya.

    Relevant Experience.

    • At least 2 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting
    • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and diagnostic procedures.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Experience using tablet-based software for collecting data (e.g Redcap, ODK)
    • Familiarity with research ethics.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
    • Should be fluent in English/Swahili and the community local languages
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Research Nurse, IHD Office

    Job Summary

    The Research Nurse will support in implementation of the study activities including recruiting study participants, conducting clinical assessments, data collection activities, support with community engagement activities, data management and ensuring the overall quality of research activities. Research Nurse will work closely with the research team, local healthcare providers, and community members to facilitate the smooth operation of the study.

    Responsibilities

    • Familiarize with data collection tools, consenting processes, and protocols
    • Introduce participants to the study and conduct the consent process.
    • Conduct maternal and child health assessments including ANC assessments
    • Monitor and record health indicators, including vital signs, growth measurements, and developmental milestones.
    • Assist in labor and delivery outcome data collection.
    • Collect and record data accurately and efficiently following the study protocol
    • Support with community engagement processes.
    • Ensure proper storage of study documents/ samples.
    • Documentation of all implementation and community engagement processes including keeping accurate records and raw data
    • Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and submit timely reports on data collection activities.
    • Comply with stipulated guidelines related to informed consent, data collection and data handling and maintain utmost confidentiality of the data.
    • Tracking of participant follow-ups and visits

    Requirements

    • A Degree/Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution
    • Have a valid practice license in Kenya

    Relevant Experience.

    • 2 years working experience.
    • Previous experience in research, data collection, and participant recruitment is an advantage.
    • Experience using tablet-based software for collecting data (e.g Redcap, ODK)
    • Familiarity with research ethics.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
    • Should be fluent in English/Swahili and the community local languages
    • Experience working in remote areas within Isiolo county.
    • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
