    RHA Global Lead

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Leads FH’s humanitarian systems and operations liaising Country Office leadership, FH Affiliate offices, international and local partners ensuring FH is a cutting-edge leader in the field.
    • Builds FH ‘s response capabilities and ensures that Country Offices are supported through standard setting, resource mobilization and deploying surge capabilities.
    • Leads and directs FH’s external humanitarian operations relationships within the UN, US, and international aid community.
    • Travel strategically and network accordingly.
    • Leads the RHA team-members in accordance with their responsibilities and in support of strategy with special attention to ensuring resilience building is key in all rapid, life-saving interventions. (Systems supporting pre-disaster preparation such as CODRP, Risk Assessments, DRR).
    • Responsible for  the build out of the global Country Office Disaster Response Plan (CODRP) steps and ensuring RHA has capacity to launch training and remote refresher courses.
    • Develops the humanitarian partner identification, vetting and agreement process in coordination with internal stakeholders and in line with FH’s stance related to operationalizing localization and in support of dismantling negative systemic norms in support of decolonization of aid.
    • Represents FH within the international humanitarian community (aka UN Clusters, Integral Alliance, Interaction, etc.) with the purpose to grow influence, engagement, and opportunity aka the primary representative to the Integral Alliance International Programs Group (IPG).
    • Responsible for ensuring RHA is proactively engaged with all internal stakeholders related to all types of fund-raising efforts for the intended humanitarian actions including Marketing and Communications.
    • Responsible for ensuring RHA is proactively engaged with key counterparts including, Program Quality, External Affairs, Public Development and Strategic Resources (PDSR), Finance, MEL, Strategy and Security.
    • Deploys to disaster zones in humanitarian leadership capacity.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Level Specifications

    • Demonstrated computer operating skills, including proficiency in Google platforms, Microsoft Office products, and virtual technologies such as Skype and/or Zoom.
    • Ability to sit/stand at a computer for up to 8 hours a day doing repetitive motions on a keyboard.
    • Able to travel at short notice.
    • Able to lift up to 25 lbs. individually and up to 50 lbs. as a team lift.
    • Ability to travel up to 25% of time per year, including to insecure countries or locations.

    Experience

    • At least 10 years of Humanitarian Affairs and on-the-ground Disaster Response experience in a global organization.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of the UN Cluster, the US Government emergency and disaster response systems and a strong global network of relief actors.
    • Education/Certifications
    • Master’s Degree in related fields such as Disaster and Risk Management, Humanitarian Action, Global Development, Peace and Conflict or real-world equivalent.

    Reg. Food Sec. & Livelihood Tech Adviser Africa

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Provides technical backstopping to FH regional programs in the Food Security and Livelihood portfolio.
    • Provides support to Country Offices for new funding opportunities as they relate to the FS&L Unit.
    • Defines and develops the regional food security and livelihoods strategy in alignment with the FH Transformational Framework, with the goal to build improved and resilient livelihoods of small-holder farmers, agro-pastoralists, and pastoralists, and youth in Africa.
    • In partnership with the Business Development Team, leads innovation including expansion into the deployment of increased digital technologies to improve FH’s FS&L impact.
    • Provides technical support to FOs in the areas of climate resilient agriculture, food security, economic development, and natural resources management towards the development of Technical Approaches and Technical Programs, adaptation and scaling up of specific project models and/or best practices that contribute to FS&L standards outcomes (domains of change); In the process ensure that FSL Program Minimum Quality Standards are followed/used.
    • Works with the MEL Team to assist Country Offices in the selection of FSL standard indicators and the development of IPTT and Detail Implementation Plan (DIP) for the implementation of countries FS&L strategies.
    • Works with the Relief and Humanitarian Affairs (RHA) and Risk and Resilience Units to develop plans for collaborative implementation of the region FS&L approaches to building resilience with specific focus on countries facing recurrent food crisis.
    • Documents best practices and share across the Africa Region and GSC FSL and MEL Units, for review and publication.
    • Assists the Food Security and Livelihoods Director and FH Country offices in supporting proposal development, and proposal writing for food security and livelihoods projects.
    • Monitors potential food security and livelihoods funding opportunities from USG and non-USG donors for countries in the region.
    • Supports the FOs in the development of consortia whenever necessary in preparation for upcoming funding opportunities.
    • Networks and builds relationships with other International Relief and Development.  Non-Governmental Organizations, academic institutions, and research institutions.
    • Professional development / team player (empower self to work effectively and efficiently within a team and to develop and advance their skills).
    • Identifies key relationships to strengthen national and regional positioning and elevate FH’s profile with government, multilateral, and private sector donors within the region.
    • Pursues training opportunities such as webinars, seminars, conferences, offsite time spent in networking and researching to add personal value as a critical tool in the success of the workplace and FH’s Heartbeat.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Additional Requirements

    • Ability to travel up to 80% of time in Africa, to insecure countries or locations.
    • Able to lift up to 25 lbs. individually and up to 50 lbs. as a team lift.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience implementing and / or managing community development programs in Africa.
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in food security and agricultural businesses / entrepreneurship preferred.
    • Proven experience bringing innovation to the sector for program implementation and impact.
    • Previous experience backstopping programs.

    Education/Certifications

    • Master’s degree in agriculture, agriculture economics, or related fields required.

    Language

    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.  Fluency in French, Swahili, Portuguese, Amharic, or other national African languages is desirable. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
