    Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements

    Responsibilities

    Specific Assignments

    Programme Development and Implementation:

    • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes/projects, including providing technical and coordination support of integrated projects for the Agency to enhance quality and synergy, Establishing and managing flexible teams to provide inputs to larger scale proposals.
    • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
    • Provide and facilitate forums for exchange of ideas and collaboration on project design within the agency to enhance quality and synergy
    • Liaises between the Division of ERSKI and other areas of the Organization in supporting the development of project/programme partnerships with UN agencies and donors.
    • Supports the implementation of the knowledge management strategy of UN-Habitat in close collaboration with regional offices and thematic branches.

    Programme Support:

    • Prepares various written outputs and reports, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. related to sustainable urbanization.
    • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
    • Participates in missions, including provision of guidance including preparation of briefings, talking points and other necessary programmatic documentation prior to missions and makes follow up as required.
    • Systematize and disseminate best practices and knowledge management functions of the Branch to make learning and sharing internal and external a key priority.
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in urban planning, law, economics, business administration, management, economics or a related field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, programme supervision is required. Experience in sustainable urban development is desirable. Work experience in building new organizational structures, network and processes is desirable. Work experience in designing and/or implementing urban environment or urban planning initiatives is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.     Urban Planning and Infrastructure for Migration Contexts Egypt Coordinator/ Project Urban Planner

    Duties and responsibilities

    The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

    • Work with UPIMC Programme Management Team (UN-Habitat HQ) and UPIMC Egypt Country Office Team
    • Support UPIMC Global Programme Coordinator at UN-Habitat HQ to align UPIMC team activities and outputs in Egypt with programme standards
    • Remain abreast of projects conducted by the UN-Habitat Egypt Country Programme, seeking opportunities to align UPIMC with other UN-Habitat activities in Egypt
    • Remain abreast of migration-related projects and programming in Egypt • Ensure project management and organisation in Egypt is consistent with UN-Habitat and UPIMC standards
    • Provide technical advice and coordinate with activities conducted by the UPIMC Egypt Project team in the preparation of multi-sectoral spatial profiles providing a city/neighbourhood-wide overview and multi-scalar assessment of displaced communities
    • Desk review and socio-economic data collection
    • Planning & Migration policy analysis & Institutional framework assessment
    • Stakeholder mapping and assessment • Stakeholder Engagement and Visioning workshops
    • Spatial data collection, asset and infrastructure mapping • Mapping of proposed infrastructure investments
    • Cross-sectoral spatial analysis and key trend identification • Profile Preparation, including illustrating maps, drafting text and laying out information
    • Proofread and edit outputs, ensuring Spatial Settlement Profiling and UN-Habitat standards are met 3. Identification of suitable pilot areas within the supported cities with all relevant stakeholders and priorities agreed in line with Sustainable Development Goals
    • Pilot Area Identification
    • Development of technical conclusions and strategic spatial recommendations
    • Utilization of tools to refine local priorities with key stakeholders
    • Stakeholder validation of conclusions and recommendations for pilot areas
    • Carry out preparation and facilitation of trainings, events, exchanges for local authorities and other stakeholders
    • Coordinate engagement of local authorities in global forums
    • Capacity Building Sessions with local authorities to continue to monitor and guide infrastructure implementation
    • Work with UN-Habitat HQ to roll out of Data management systems, knowledge, and lessons learnt reports as well as assistance with project evaluation and reporting.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Academic Qualification: A first level university degree in Architecture, Urban Development, and Urban Planning, or a related field is required.
    • Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban development and planning (and/or related fields) is required;
    • Experience working on issues related to migration and displacement is desirable;
    • Working knowledge and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (and their monitoring/evaluation) and of the New Urban Agenda is an asset;
    • Knowledge in GIS is an asset.

    Languages

    • Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.

    Communications and Event Management Consultant

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Under the supervision of UNITAC’s Technology and Innovation Specialist, the individual contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:

    UNITAC Conference for the International Guidelines on People-Centered Smart Cities:

    • Update communication assets package with latest project information
    • Designated focal point for all speaker and moderator management related activities.
    • Liaise and coordinate with event focal points to ensure adherence to timelines and key milestones.
    • Send effective and regular communication emails to event focal points and their teams for action
    • Coordinate the speaker invitation process including preparing speaker invitation letters, responding to speaker enquiries, requests from the host country, confirmation emails and disseminating relevant information to support the participation of speakers at the event.
    • Review the event panel composition based on the standard operating procedure (i.e., considering gender, regional representation, stakeholder type, participation of Least Developed Countries and vulnerable communities).
    • Coordinate travel arrangements and collaborate with administrative team to ensure all travel is confirmed prior to the event.
    • Manage the event logistics (i.e., interpretation, hybrid, accessibility, capacity, registration)
    • Coordinate with the team members to ensure speaker profiles and up-to-date event information are available on communication platforms (i.e., UNITAC and UN-Habitat website, social media) and outreach materials (i.e., event programme)
    • Ensure smooth onsite execution and management (including speakers room), troubleshooting and overcoming challenges.
    • Prepare and disseminate post event thank you letters as well as reporting on and archiving speaker related data
    • Provide guidance on speaker performance and continue to optimize the speaker management process to improve overall experience and enhance efficiency.

    12th Session of the World Urban Forum:

    • Update communications assets package with latest information on UNITAC
    • Design of the UNITAC booth wall graphic layout.
    • Design of flyers and social media cards for the events hosted by UNITAC
    • Perform other tasks as required

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Events Management, business administration or related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 2 years of experience in event management, partnership engagement and global advocacy initiatives is required. Work experience in speaker management and at the international level with participation from multiple stakeholders and countries is required. Experience in mid to large-scale event coordination is desirable. Knowledge of digital media platforms and innovative communications tools is desirable. Knowledge of sustainable urban development and related issues is desirable. A strong understanding of digitization projects, digital policy and strategy or similar is desired. Experience in dealing with different constituencies and delegations, member states, civil society organizations, the private sector, etc is desirable.

    Urban Planning & Economy Consultant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the overall supervision of the Programme Lead on Finance and Economy, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

    • Provide technical support within the Flagship Programme 1 on urban regeneration, producing financial analysis, policy recommendations and reports.
    • Develop presentation materials on urban regeneration and economy and finance training and capacity building materials within the Flagship Programme
    • Conducting research on the finance and economy needs of other PFES teams and identifying possible entry points.
    • Development of concept notes on potential collaborative projects between Finance and Economy/ Flagship Programme 1 and other teams in the section.
    • Draft normative and strategic documents for the Flagship Programme 1 and Our City Plans in collaboration with country offices and teams.
    • Provide technical support to the Planning Finance and Economy Section on communication and outreach activities.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Academic Qualification: First Level university degree in Economics, Public Policy, Public Finance, Political Science, Development Studies, or a related field is required. An advanced degree with (2) two years qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the first level degree. Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of public finance, public policy, urban regeneration initiatives, and/or local economic development is required. Demonstrate knowledge of the 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, and/or UN-Habitat language. International experience will be positively taken into account, particularly in the field of international cooperation for territorial and urban development. Work experience in the UN System is not a requirement but will be valued.
