    Data Analyst

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The consultant will work in the Knowledge and Innovation Branch, under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Data and Analytics Section. She/he will be responsible for the following tasks:

    • Organize and coordinate data collection and validation workshops in Mombasa
    • Coordinate the field data collection process and Key Informant Interviews.
    • Supervise local data collection teams, support analysis and interpretation
    • Contribute to validation of UMF statistical data from city stakeholders
    • Support the development of workshop reports, city profiles and final project report.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A first degree or equivalent in Statistics, Demography, Economics, Actuarial Sciences, or any other closely related field is required.
    • At least five years of progressive experience as a researcher/analyst working on a broad range of urban issues at the local, national and international levels including in analysis of large datasets (e.g. DHS, MICS, LSMS), summarizing and presenting large quantities of statistics on human settlements using relevant computer software is required
    • Experience publishing in high-impact peer-reviewed journals; Familiarity with the UN system; Some level of knowledge of and experience working with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is highly desirable.

    Languages

    For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required. Although not a requirement, knowledge of any other UN language will be an advantage.

    Project Coordinator

    Responsibilities /Deliverables

    Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of the Data and Analytics Unit and/or his designate, the consultant will be responsible for the following deliverables:

    •  Conduct assessment on the availability of SDGs/NUA data in project countries and submission of compilation, analysis and presentation of secondary data availed in various databases from administrative sources and past household surveys (DHS, MICS, LSMS, etc.) and censuses conducted by national Statistics Agencies to examine the status of data for monitoring NUA and SDGs and in line with the Global Urban Monitoring Framework in project countries as outlined in SDG indicators metadata frameworks.
    •  Facilitate capacity building activities including submission of reports on the methodological and dissemination workshops to be organized in participating countries and cities.
    •  Manage and ensure coordination networks are created with national level processes, UN system agencies and teams of local consultants regarding data and monitoring in participating countries.
    •  Facilitate the localization of the urban monitoring framework (UMF) and development of the local indicator's methodological application and provide support to the development of the e-leaning module for UMF.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Statistics, Demography, Economics, Quantitative Sociology, urban development, programme management, law or any other closely related field is required. A first-level university degree in the above subjects with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Five years of experience as project manager or expert including in in coordinating work on sustainable development goals is required
    • Additional experience in the coordination and drafting of project reports is required

    Languages

    For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required. Although not a requirement, knowledge of any other UN language will be an advantage
