    Accountant

    Purpose of the function

    As Accountant you contribute to VVOB’s ambition and values by ensuring the implementation, management and improvement of a high-quality accounting system and processes at the VVOB office in Kenya. You will reports to the operations manager. You are part of the operations department and will work closely with your direct colleagues. Furthermore, you work closely together with all other departments within your country and the finance department at HQ.

    You will:

    • You ensure proper and timely use and update of the accounting system and timely collection of good quality accounting documentation according to the latest financial guidelines.
    • You provide information pro-actively and support the program team and relevant partners to improve the accounting system and to develop their capacity in the field of accounting and accounting requirements.
    • You coordinate and supervise the compliance and correct implementation of financial guidelines and procedures.
    • You are responsible for informing the management on the status of the accounting system, including critical issues, and you identify areas for improvement in the accounting system and processes.
    • You examine and analyse financial records, prepare financial documents, reports, budgets and calculate tax information according to VVOB and donor’s guidelines.

    If you’re our Accountant, your workweek at the office will include the following highlights:

    • Together with the finance team and the operations manager you discuss during the weekly staff meeting on Monday morning what the highlights are in terms of finance and budgets for that week.
    • You are asked by the Country Programmes Manager to assist in writing a budget proposal for a new donor, together with the program team and the Senior Education Advisor at Head Office.
    • You receive an invitation from the Operation Manager to sit together to discuss the new travel and fleet policy and you are asked to brainstorm already about the financial implications of a few new proposals.
    • By the end of the week you make sure that all the validated invoices are booked and ready for payment. You discuss some open vendors with a finance staff colleague.
    • Next week the budget monitoring meeting is planned with the Head Office, so you start already to prepare the forecasting figures together with the programme staff.

    Your expertise and experience

    • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Management or other relevant field or equivalent experience.
    • In depth understanding of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial market; banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
    • Excellent computer skills in MS office and affinity with accounting and financial analysis software.
    • Fluent in English

    Education Advisor Online Learning design & development

    Purpose of the function

    As Education Advisor you contribute to the ambition and values of VVOB in Kenya by being the key person in Online Learning Design & Development. You provide technical support and advice on the design and development of online learning platforms and support to VVOB and VVOB’s partners in Kenya. The Education Advisor reports to the Country Programmes Manager. You are part of and work closely with your direct Education and M&E colleagues. Furthermore, you work closely together with the Strategic Education Advisors in your country, and with the Global Strategic Education Advisors at HQ.

    You will:

    • You offer technical advice, guidance and support to internal VVOB colleagues to achieve project results and to partners in order to realise educational change processes in the domain of online learning supported by the project.
    • You contribute to the identification, formulation, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project in order to realise educational change processes in the domain of online learning supported by the project.
    • You take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process of the partners according to the needs of the partner and particular situations and phases of the programme.
    • You keep abreast with policy trends, new developments and latest research and thinking in online learning, ICT and education in general, and in an international context by external and internal networking and share new insights with partners and VVOB colleagues.

    If you’re our Education Advisor, your workweek at the office will include the following highlights:

    • You have a discussion with the Online Learning colleagues about the pedagogical challenges related to blended delivery of the training programme for school leaders and related equity issues.
    • You log in to an online meeting with partners from a University College in Belgium. You present a summary of the state of affairs and discuss how their online support can further improve the programme.
    • You have a progress meeting with the external service provider supporting the technical development of the app to improve the interactivity of the content.
    • Lunch! A perfect way to informally check in with some of your colleagues involved in other aspects of the programme. You attend a session of VVOBs Monitoring & Evaluation colleague about the impact of the training programme and reflect on re-development of the online learning environment for school leaders for a next cohort of school leaders.
    • You share your draft concept note on which multimedia materials to develop for the upcoming training trajectories of school leaders with the partners of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), for their feedback.
    • You respond to a draft strategy note sent by the Country Programmes Manager on the scaling strategy of the programme.

    Your expertise and experience

    • Master’s degree in education, human sciences, or other relevant field or equivalent experience.
    • Expertise and experience in online learning design and development.
    • Knowledge of and experience with programme management, preferably project cycle management.
    • Experience with change management and capacity development processes in the context of educational institutions.
    • An in-depth understanding of national education systems and the latest developments in the education sector
    • Fluent in English

You provide technical support and advice on this domain to VVOB and VVOB’s partners in Kenya. The Education Advisor reports to the Country Programmes Manager. You are part of and work closely with your direct Education and M&E colleagues. Furthermore, you work closely together with the Strategic Education Advisors in your country, and with the Global Strategic Education Advisors at VVOB head office.

    You will:

    • You offer technical advice, guidance and support to internal VVOB colleagues to achieve project results and to partners in order to realise educational change processes in the domain of blended training and facilitation supported by the project.

    • You contribute to the identification, formulation, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project in order to realise educational change processes supported by the project.
    • You take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process of the partners in the domain of competency based education according to the needs of the partner and particular situations and phases of the programme.
    • You keep abreast with policy trends, new developments and latest research and thinking in competency based education and education in general and in an international context by external and internal networking and share new insights with partners and VVOB colleagues.
    • If you’re our Education Advisor, your workweek at the office will include the following highlights:
    • You have a meeting with the partners of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) which implement the training programme(s) for school leaders to identify areas of capacity development of the trainers in the field of app-based learning

    Strategic Education Advisor Partnerships & Policy

    Purpose of the function

    As Strategic Education Advisor you contribute to the ambition and values of VVOB in Kenya by being the key person for education partnerships and policy. You provide technical and strategic advice and guidance on this domain to VVOB and VVOB’s partners in Kenya. In this position you report to the Country Programmes Manager. You work closely together with the education and M&E colleagues.

    You will:

    • You create and manage partnerships and strong networks with relevant partners, institutions and organisations*.*
    • You support the policy processes needed for institutionalizing and scaling the programme’s of VVOB, together with our partners and other stakeholders. You aim for evidence-based policy outcomes, guided by the research agenda of VVOB in Kenya and globally.
    • You provide both short- and long-term strategic advice, information, and guidance to VVOB and VVOB’s partners on education, in line with Kenyan policy trends, new developments and the latest research and thinking in education and international development.
    • You design and develop relevant and scalable projects in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
    • You take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process according to the needs, particular situations, and phases of the programme.
    • You contribute to internal and external knowledge development and learning**,** by systemizing lessons learned and sharing pro-actively lessons learned between partners, colleagues and other VVOB country teams.

    If you’re our Strategic Education Advisor, your workweek at the office will include the following highlights:

    • Together with your colleague M&E and Research Advisor, you have a meeting with the research department of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), who are involved in the research agenda of the programme, to discuss the results of the data collection of school leaders who followed the training programme in cohort 3
    • You assist the country programmes manager in preparing the agenda for the steering committee, composed of strategic partners to guide, oversee, and support the realisation of the Specific Objective of the INCREASE Programme
    • You represent VVOB at the Education Evidence for Action (EE4A) Conference in Naivasha and together with the learning partner, you present the latest findings of our cost-effectiveness research on school leadership trainings
    • You log in to an online meeting with partners from a University College in Belgium to prepare for a visit to Kenya. You present a summary of the state of affairs and discuss how their support can further improve the programme
    • You give a presentation at the Ministry of Education about the impact of the training programme and advice on further upscaling of the training for school leaders in a cost-effective way

    Your expertise and experience

    • In depth understanding of and connections with the Kenyan education system and the Kenyan education sector
    • In depth understanding of and experience in recent evolutions related to effective school leadership

    M&E and Research Advisor

    Purpose of the function

    As M&E and Research Advisor you contribute to the ambition and values of VVOB by developing and coordinating the implementation of a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) system that facilitates the efficient planning, monitoring and evaluation of the project objectives, results, and activities. Next to this, you develop the research agenda and coordinate and support the implementation of research in Kenya, together with VVOB Education Advisors, Global Strategic Advisors M&E and Research and external partners.

    You will:

    • You take the lead in monitoring and evaluating project objectives effectively and you ensure lessons are drawn, documented, and disseminated to inform on-going implementation and future programming.
    • You provide coordination, technical support, and advice to VVOB Education Advisors and partners in planning of activities.
    • You ensure capacity development on M&E of the partners according to the needs of the partner and particular situations and phases of the projects.
    • You take part in internal and external working groups, task forces, … related to MEAL.
    • You support in data collection and research on the effects and impact of VVOB’s projects within Kenya, in line with the research agenda of VVOB.
    • You coordinate the collection and analysis of M&E and research data on the effects and impact of VVOB’s projects within Kenya, in line with the research agenda of VVOB.

    If you’re our Advisor M&E and Research, your workweek at the office will include the following highlights:

    • You work on a presentation for the Education Evidence for Action (EE4A) Conference in Naivasha, together with the learning partner, which highlights the latest findings of our cost-effectiveness research on school leadership trainings.
    • You discuss a set of draft indicators you have developed for a new project proposal together with the strategic education advisors.
    • You organise an internal training for VVOB colleagues on systematization of data collection and later that week an external training for partners on the use of digital data eco-systems.
    • Lunch! A perfect way to informally check in with field teams on the latest change stories at the level of schools.
    • You gather and analyse data in the field through surveys, focus group or other methodologies and instruments defined in the monitoring plans to produce high quality data and reporting, in function of the internal learning needs of the programme and donor requirements.
    • In a team meeting with the programme team, you share some interesting research articles on school leadership, as further inspiration for the team.

    Your expertise and experience

    • Master’s degree in statistics, education, social sciences or other relevant field or equivalent experience
    • Experience in international development cooperation, in particular on M&E
    • Experience with the development of indicators, the use of M&E tools and implementation of M&E processes, including data collection methodologies, software and analysis.
    • Research experience, preferably with quantitative (survey) data in the education sector
    • Experience with statistical packages (STATA, Excel, SPSS) is an advantage
    • Fluent in English
