    Research Intern

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Sample collection and processing
    • Assist in running of laboratory assays for the project
    • Lab Results processing and reporting
    • Field Data collection and management
    • Assist in other tasks to support the project as required.
    • Provide administrative assistance.

    Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

    • BSc. Biological sciences from a recognized institution;
    • Proficiency with molecular laboratory equipment with recent attachment in a parasitology/molecular biology laboratory;
    • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques; DNA extraction, PCR and Qpcr
    • Knowledgeable in Sequencing and Sequencing data analysis;
    • Accuracy and close attention to detail; and
    • Strong analytical and organisation skills.

    Contract Duration: 1 year

    Laboratory Intern

    ICT Officer

    Vacancy: CGHR/317/09/22

    Job Specification

    This is the entry and training grade for Degree holders in this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the supervision of a senior officer.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Design, setup and configure complex switching environments, wireless networks (that support secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications) and Firewalls, VPN Concentrators and security appliances for access to vital mission critical applications.
    • Maintain network security through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls.
    • Maintain the LAN and its associated components (switches, structured cabling, power provisioning, etc.) and both the wired and the wireless network inclusive of performance, security, throughput and upgrades.
    • Implement multi user environments, including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS, Ether-Channel.
    • Provide technical assistance and support to internal staff.
    • To keep track of KEMRI’s infrastructure assets and ensure that the infrastructure and data is kept secure at all times.
    • To ensure that technology is used, managed and supported in accordance with KEMRI’S standards, policies and procedures.

    Person Specifications

    • For appointment to this grade an officer must have:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
    • Professional certification such as (at least two) CCIE, CCNP, CCNA, Network + CISM Operating systems, Office productivity tools or any other equivalent certification from a recognized Institution
    • Have at least three years of continuous exposure to work in a busy IT environment

    Clerical Officer - 3 Positions

    Job Description

    The CO will report directly to the Research Administrator and will be responsible for collecting timely and accurate data in his or her assigned duty.

    Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Consent study participants
    • Perform finger prick procedure and test using rapid test device
    • Assist with recruitment of participants to enroll in study
    • Complete study forms accurately and completely
    • Perform data entry through diaries and computer
    • Communicate field matters to supervisor
    • Attend study meetings and report on progress of work
    • Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time by immediate supervisor

    Qualification/Requirements

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education grade D+ plus
    • Certificate in HIV Testing Services (HTS)
    • Certificate in computer packages
    • Must be residents of the study sites
    • Good command of English and Swahili languages
