    Catering Manager

    Reporting to the Director, KeMU Holdings Services Limited, the Catering Manager job exists to plan, organize and develop the food and beverage services , while meeting client expectations , food and hygiene standards, financial targets and supporting the overall functions of the University.
    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Supervision of the Catering Department
    2. Authorization of stores/purchase requests for the department
    3. Implementation of Catering procedures and policies
    4. Quality Assurance and control aspects of the department
    5. Coordination on outside catering activities
    6. Inspection and coordination of repairs and maintenance in the department
    7. Analyzing, monitoring and evaluating enterprise profit margins
    8. Oversee the management of catering staff, facilities and services in the University.
    9. Ensure the quality and sufficiency of food and beverage preparation and provision services in the University.
    10. Ensure proper storage of foodstuff in the kitchen store in order to retain their quality and nutritional values and thus meet customers’ nutrition and dietary needs in the University.
    11. Prepare and plan procurement list for all kitchen supplies such as foodstuffs, utensils and other materials for use in the catering services of the University.
    12. Supervise catering and waiting staff together to ensure quality catering services in the University needs in the University.
    13. Supervise food preparation contents, procedures and process in order to ensure that they meet the required standards of hygiene and nutrition for customers in the University.
    14. Ensure public health and sanitation, and safety regulations are strictly observed in order to prevent disease outbreak through food contamination in the University.
    15. Monitor the quantity and quality of service provided by undertaking regular spot checks in the kitchen and other food handling areas of the University.
    16. Ensure maintenance of food stock levels and order new supplies as required in the kitchen and other catering areas of the University
    17. Liaise with suppliers to ensure quality and timely kitchen supplies delivery in the University.
    • Participate in contracting for kitchen suppliers, assessing their requirements and ensuring they are satisfied with the service delivered (in contract catering).
    • Ensuring compliance with all fire, licensing, and employment regulations in the University

    Qualifications and experience

    • Diploma in Catering, Hotel Management or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
    • Higher Diploma in Catering, Hotel Management or other Hospitality Services from a recognized institution
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management or Food and Beverages Science from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
    • Medical Fitness Certificate from Public Health Office
    • At least five years working experience as a Catering Manager in a reputable institution.

    Farm Manager

    Reporting to the Director, KeMU Holdings Services Limited, this position is responsible for efficient Management of the University Farm.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. To Manage the University farm as a profitable enterprise
    2. To coordinate all activities and operations of the farm
    3. To prepare farm budget and work plans
    4. To ensure cost effectiveness and timely procurements of the farm inputs
    5. To evaluate and recommend the right farm enterprise mix Marketing and selling of farm produce
    6. Maintaining effective pest and diseases control for both crops and livestock enterprises
    7. Managing farm workers and casuals
    8. Protecting environment and maintaining biodiversity
    9. Maintenance of farm Infrastructure, machinery and equipment
    10. Practicing Climate Smart Agriculture
    11. Implementing short term Agricultural Trainings and outreach activities
    12. Ensuring farm activities comply with government regulations
    13. Monitoring animal health and welfare
    14. Applying health and safety standards across the farm
    15. Monitoring and documenting all produce and land use to meet funding requirements
    16. Keeping up to date financial, and other farm records
    17. Accounting for revenue from the farm

    Qualifications and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or Agriculture or Horticulture or Agricultural Engineering from a recognized institution
    • Have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience in management of a busy mixed farm enterprise and excellent work performance
    • Must be registered with a relevant body
    • Knowledge of Human Resource Management and budgeting will be a definite advantage
    • Have Technical and Practical competence in crop and livestock management
    • Have good understanding of public procurement system and government regulations related to farm activities

    Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs)

    To strengthen its Academic and Student Affairs Division, KeMU wishes to recruit a suitable applicant to the position of The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs). Successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the implementation of the envisaged transformation process, mainly in the management of teaching, learning and research.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will:

    1. Provide vision and leadership for all University academic activities and strategic planning, including oversight of the academic, research and student affairs budget.
    2. Ensure effective management and implementation of academic and research activities in the University.
    3. Ensure satisfactory customer experience.
    4. Provide leadership and supervisory oversight to the academic staff and students.
    5. Prepare and present teaching and research programs to the Senate for approval and oversee implementation.
    6. Develop and implement quality assurance policy.
    7. Promote a learning environment that is supportive of the University mission and vision through student-centered services.
    8. Work closely with other Deputy Vice Chancellors (APF) on staff development, training and research programmes.
    9. Guide Chairpersons of Departments, Deans of schools and Directors of Campuses on running of academic programmes.
    10. Co-ordinate examinations, admissions, registration of students, and general student campus life.
    11. Ensure that the University Senate is properly advised in the development of academic programmes in conformity with ethical standards and legally recognized professional bodies.
    12. Facilitate the development, review, and revision of academic programmes in line with the University Vision and Strategic Plan.
    13. Develop internal and external academic linkages with industry, institutions and other relevant bodies that benefit the university in one way or another.
    14. Spearhead fundraising initiatives in the Division including scholarships and grants.
    15. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor from time to time.

    Requirements

    The applicant must have the following qualifications and experience:

    1. Be a holder of an earned PhD from an accredited and recognized university.
    2. At least ten (10) years’ experience in a senior academic and management position at a university, or with proven experience in executive leadership position in an institution of comparable status.
    3. Have thorough knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering University Education in Kenya.
    4. Have good understanding of Governance structures, strategic planning and Vision 2030.
    5. Must demonstrate proven experience in policy making, strategic planning, developing and implementation of relevant and quality market driven academic programmes.
    6. Able to promote institutional linkages and scholarship.
    7. Must show good understanding for the promotion of learning, excellence in teaching, research and innovation.
    8. Must have a good track record of successful change management.
    9. Must have a track record in resource mobilization
    10. Be of highest ethical standards, integrity, accountability and professionalism, teamwork and stewardship, and comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
    11. Be a committed Christian.

    Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Planning and Finance)

    To strengthen its Administrative, Planning and Development Division, KeMU wishes to recruit a suitable candidate to the position of Deputy Vice–Chancellor, Administration, Planning and
    Finance. The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the implementation of the envisaged transformation process, mainly in the management of human, physical, financial resources and in resource mobilization for the University.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Planning and Finance will be the Principal assistant to the Vice Chancellor in the day to day running of the Administration, Planning, Development and Finance functions of the University.

    His/her responsibility will include:

    1. Providing vision and leadership for all University administrative activities and strategic planning, including oversight of the administrative and development budget.
    2. Spearhead fundraising initiatives including grants and developing partnership with donors.
    3. Implement procurement, financial control policies and procedures to ensure effective performance and delivery of services.
    4. Coordinate the design, implementation, revision and evaluation of the University’s strategic plan.
    5. Develop appropriate procedures and ensure compliance with all statutory and legal requirements in general administration and finance within the University.
    6. Develop systems and procedures to attract, develop and retain qualified and experienced staff, manage the appraisal system and ensure good work ethos and adherence to KeMU’s code of conduct.
    7. Develop and oversee the implementation of the University plans and budget.
    8. Manage the University Performance Contracting function.
    9. Prudently and soundly administer the University finances.
    10. Take charge of Human Resource Management (Staff recruitment, retention, & Development).
    11. Manage catering and accommodation services.
    12. Ensure provision of healthcare services for staff and students.
    13. Manage Central Estates and Transport services.
    14. Coordinate and oversight other non-fee income generating activities
    15. Ensure satisfactory customer experience.
    16. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor from time to time.

    Requirements

    The suitable candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:

    • Be a holder of an earned PhD from an accredited and recognized university.
    • At least ten years’ experience in a senior academic and management position at university level, or with proven experience in executive leadership position in an institution of comparable status.
    • Proven record of resource mobilization and financial management.
    • Evidence of professional training in leadership, management and governance.
    • Experience in institutional leadership that will spearhead the realization of the University Vision.
    • Have a successful track record in the management of financial, human and physical resources at top management level.
    • Demonstrate evidence of outstanding communication ability, coupled with excellent presentation skills.
    • Conversant with national laws, policies in education and National and International Visions.
    • Demonstrate a high degree of result oriented performance characterized by foresight, strategic thinking and service delivery.
    • Proven experience in change management and transformation of ideas into desired outcomes.
    • Be of the highest ethical standards and professionalism in line with Chapter VI of the Kenya Constitution.
    • Be a committed Christian.

    Anesthetist

    Requirements

    1. Must have a Doctorate degree in Medicine or equivalent qualification from a recognized/accredited academic institution; and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable)

    OR

    1. Must be a holder of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
    2. Must be a holder of Master of Medicine in Anaesthesiology or equivalent
    3. The holder must be duly registered by KMPDC (Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council) or the equivalent in the EAC countries and hold a retention certificate of the KMPDC.
    4. Teaching experience in a medical school will be an added advantage.

    Lecturers

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The responsibilities of a Lecturer are as follows:

    1. Teaching and evaluation of undergraduate and postgraduate students
    2. Setting, moderating, administering, processing and marking examinations
    3. Advising and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students on academic matters
    4. Articulating the Vision and Mission of the University, Department and the Faculty
    5. Initiating, planning and conducting research

    9. Participating in conferences related to research and building inter-disciplinary collaboration within and outside the department

    12. Attending and participating in seminars, workshops, conferences etc, in relevant fields
    13. Participating in administrative, academic and consultancy activities in Department and other organizations
    14. Participating in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of curricula in the Department
    15. Attending and participating in the Departmental meetings and other activities for effective and efficient management of the Department and Faculty
    16. Performing any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Head of Department, Dean of Faculty or other Chief Officer of the University in accordance with the University Statutes

    Requirements

    1. Must have an earned Ph.D. degree in the relevant area or its equivalent from a recognized academic institution and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable)

    OR

    1. Must have a Masters degree in the Relevant Specialization from a recognized academic institution
    2. Must have at least three (3) years of teaching or research experience at University level after obtaining a Masters degree
    3. Must have at least 24 publication points of which 16 should be from two (2) publications in refereed journals or one (1) book or 2 (two) book chapters in relevant areas.
