    Internship: Koko Labs

    Your Role

    As an Intern in KOKO Labs, you will have the opportunity to work and learn many aspects of what it takes to design and test innovative concepts in the real world. You will work across a variety of different tasks and work streams within KOKO Labs that will support different Program Areas and various pilots and proof of concepts. This is a fast-paced role that will suit someone who is an energetic and curious team player who wants to use this opportunity to learn and contribute to a growing business and make a direct impact in the KOKO Labs innovation process. The majority of this role will be field-based, working with Program Managers, Project Managers, Customer Experience & Research experts. You will work at the frontline of KOKO Labs’ customer facing solutions. 

    Reporting directly to the KOKO Labs User Research & Design Manager, this is a full-time internship based in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Senior Technology Product Manager: Koko Labs

    Your Role

    The Senior Technology Product Manager role at KOKO Labs is a career-defining opportunity to drive the creation of transformative new technology-based products and services.  This role reports directly to the Chief Innovation Officer, and requires at least 50% time in-the-field with Labs team members in our target markets. 

    What You Will Do

    You will develop a deep understanding of consumer problems, issues, needs and wants within KOKO’s Innovation Program areas, through activities such as: 

    • Reviewing market research data and academic literature 
    • Conducting your own research activities directly with target consumers
    • Briefings with Program Managers, Researchers, and subject matter experts 
    • Monitoring competitive landscape, technologies & trends 

    You will support Innovation Program teams teams with technical solution ideation, concept design, rapid prototyping and iteration, by: 

    • Using best-practice design thinking frameworks to deeply understand the problems that you’re tackling, and define / frame those problems for the team
    • Collaborating with teams in thinking big, to imagine solutions that solve these problems, considering how to build on KOKO’s existing platforms/architecture
    • Scoping these solutions to their smallest coherent state to test key hypotheses with users as early as you can
    • Guiding Designers, Engineers and experts in developing early stage functional prototypes to validate key hypotheses
    • Deploying prototypes in the field, evaluating their performance through quantitative & qualitative methods, and communicating resultsManaging a prioritised “roadmap” of design and testing activities so we are always focusing on the most impactful work  
    • Capturing and sharing new domain knowledge for use in future projects  
    • You will help develop and present business cases / recommendations for breakthrough new ideas to the KOKO executive team

    What You Will Bring to KOKO

    • At least 5 years of experience applying design-thinking methodologies to developing innovative technology-based solutions
    • Proven track record of shipping impactful hardware and software products 
    • Strong understanding of underlying technologies (e.g. mobile, cloud, data, IoT) and the processes for managing software engineering, hardware design and manufacturing   
    • Entrepreneurial history demonstrating personal initiative, risk-appetite & drive Keen desire to work in emerging markets, solve major problems, and serve mass-market consumers  
    • Excellent skills in communication, interpersonal relations & persuasion

    Senior Back End Engineer (SRE)

    Your Role

    As KOKO grows within and outside Kenya, our team is looking for experienced backend engineers to join the Site Reliability Engineering Team, whose mission is to ensure KOKO delivers a highly reliable, scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud platform to its users. 

    Your role will require you to lead on development projects relating to these areas and be responsible for their successful execution.  You will keep a watchful eye on our systems’ capacity and performance, optimise our software’s use of resources and strengthen security. KOKO’s suite of products spans multiple technical domains and disciplines in software and hardware, and so experience in end-to-end systems thinking across distributed components is key to enabling KOKO’s expansion within and outside of Kenya

    What you will do

    • KOKO’s current technology stack includes (but is not limited to): AWS, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins, CircleCI, Ansible, Python, Flask, Vue.js, Postgres, Kotlin, Java, Firebase, C++, Celery, Message Queues, Odoo ERP, Git
    • Lead projects to deliver performance improvements in areas you identify with the SRE and the wider engineering team
    • Review and improve on our software designs to deliver improvements to the reliability and scalability of our systems and services
    • Strengthen our security posture by reviewing and implementing improvements conformant with secure coding standards
    • Work alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.
    • Help others to improve the quality of their work through regular design and code reviews
    • Support DevOps engineers in the SRE team with software development tasks as needed
    • Be on-call to manage high priority issues when needed, in collaboration with other engineering team members via our incident response processes.

    What You Will Bring to KOKO

    • At least four years experience developing applications at enterprise scale using the front and back end technologies in our stack
    • Experience in the following areas: enterprise application and service based architectures, software design methods, CI/CD, cyber security, process automation, QA and test automation, and highly scalable data architectures.
    • Ability to develop robust and scalable backend services defined by RESTful APIs in Python
    • Familiarity with Cloud/ SaaS architectures and how to build secure and maintainable services
    • Strong understanding of unit testing, design patterns and usage of tools like profilers
    • Experience with source control and continuous integration tools (We use GIT and Jenkins)
    • Experience working in an Agile multi-functional team 
    • Thrive in an environment that requires you to partner with multiple cross-functional teams as stakeholders/customers
    • Great oral and written communication skills

    Field Operations Manager: Koko Labs

    Your Role

    The Field Operations Manager KOKO Labs, is a wide reaching role that has responsibility for managing the efficient opeations of KOKO Labs’ concept testing programs working in coordination with the entire Lab’s team and other stakeholders at KOKO Networks. This is a fast-paced role that requires adaptability and quick problem solving skills along with experience in supply chain management, quality assurance distribution and logistics. It is expected that the successful candidate will also have technical proficiency in data management, financial reconciliation and administration. This role reports directly to the VP, Corporate Development, while reporting on a “dotted-line” basis to one of our Labs Program Area Managers, depending on specific project activities.

    The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with the possibility of travel across Kenya and to other countries as required, to set up and support Field Operations for KOKO Labs Pilot programs.

    What You Will Do

    Supply & Demand Forecasting:

    • Develop, implement and maintain a demand forecast plan for KOKO Labs shops and main distribution warehouse to ensure appropriate levels of stock availability
    • Work with the KOKO Retail Operations Team for the placement of stock orders based on the forecast plan

    Warehouse & Distribution Planning:

    • Manage the end-to-end supply chain from suppliers to warehouses, hubs and KOKO Labs shops
    • Manage the planning and implementation of last-mile distribution to KOKO Labs shops, with a focus on minimising operating costs, stock losses, stock quality issues, and shop stock-outs
    • Manage the warehousing of physical stock, marketing materials and other KOKO Labs technical and non-technical equipment, ensuring no stock losses and damage

    Inventory Management:

    • Manage the end-to-end supply chain from suppliers to warehouses, hubs and KOKO Labs shops ensuring visibility and accuracy of stock data

    Partner Management:

    • Own and oversee the relationship with our third-party logistics partners Manage the relationship with Suppliers and materials production companies

    Technical Support:

    • Oversee and manage the setup of POS devices with application installation and testing
    • Oversee and manage the setup of in-store screens and other technical equipment at Agent shops

    Field Based Support:

    • As required, support the KOKO Labs field based teams in the field with Operational and Technical support

    What You Will Bring to KOKO

    • At least 4+ years of work experience in supply chain management, warehousing or logistics, with at least 2+ years of management experience
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, G-Suite
    • Strong understanding of technical devices (smartphone, mobile applications)
    • Degree in procurement/Supply Chain related field from an accredited institution required
    • Ability to work autonomously and think on your feet
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong computer skills Strong attention to detail
    • Ability to think analytically
