    Audit Associate

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    Global Assurance (GA) supports the Boards of various Save the Children entities [including, but not limited to, Save the Children International (SCI), Save the Children Fund (SCUK) and Save the Children Federation Inc (SCUS)] and the management of these organisations by evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the governance, risk management, control and oversight systems in place.

    GA is a truly international team based across four ‘hubs’ in London, Nairobi, Washington D.C. and Manila. The role holder will be part of this global team delivering high quality, outcomes-focussed internal audit assignments, reviews, investigations and other work assigned to them to meet agreed professional standards and stakeholder expectations, on time and within budget. They will be expected to join audit teams across the globe, perform audit work, and contribute towards the production of high quality, value-adding audit reports in English that are clear, concise, timely and solutions-driven. They will also be expected to maintain strong professional relationships with their team and auditees, ensuring that they keep up-to-date with changes and events that have a significant impact on the risk profile of actual as well as potential assignments.

    The role holder will be sponsored by Save the Children International to simultaneously study towards a professional qualification/ certification with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors – over a period of up to two years.

    SCOPE OF ROLE:

    Role Dimensions:

    The role holder is expected to:

    • Travel and deliver audits across the whole of our programming portfolio. This includes fragile states, unless travel is restricted by the organisation. The travel profile generally follows 2-3 weeks working in other countries, followed by 4-5 weeks in the home country. When abroad, it is sometimes required to work on a particular festival or bank holiday in the home country, to be recompensed with a day offered in lieu.
    • When working from home or carrying out audit work remotely in Kenya, be comfortable occasionally flexing working hours to fit in with the needs of the wider GA team or audited unit. 
    • Take part in all team learning events during the year – these are both face-to-face and online learning events.

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

    • Deliver and report on internal audit work and follow-up on assignments to a high standard and within budget, with all audits being conducted in teams.
    • Work with the Global Assurance Management Team and Team Leaders as required, to deliver on audit assignments. This involves planning activity to understand a country context and the organisation’s operations, undertaking detailed field and home-based testing to determine the strength of business processes and key controls, and drafting audit findings and remedial actions for audit reports.
    • Take personal accountability for developing technical auditing skills in line with professional standards by studying for a professional certification, and passing all exams on the first attempt.
    • Assist  with  specific  organisational  projects  as  assigned;  these  may  be  for the Board, the Chief Assurance Officer or the Global Assurance Management Team.
    • Present  a  positive  face  of  Global  Assurance  and  aim  to  build  strong relationships  both  through  effective  collaboration, being up-to-date with organisational changes, and the  delivery  of  first-class results.
    • Work to a defined internal audit methodology, and meet the expectations of team leaders and managers in delivering high quality internal audit work
    • Develop and apply a comprehensive understanding of key business areas and accepted good practice to all audit work undertaken.
    • Participate in workshops and presentations as required by the organisation.
    • Contribute to systems development work, helping provide sound advice regarding appropriate levels of internal control & oversight, and facilitating the effective management of risk.
    • Support Global Assurance colleagues and managers in activities that contribute to the future shape and direction of the Global Assurance function

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Undergraduate degree or experience in relevant operational areas (e.g. within International Programs in an NGO context) and be willing to learn the appropriate audit skills
    • A real desire to learn internal auditing skills, preferably supported by a basic understanding of risk, control and the internal audit process, and a demonstrable interest of working for a complex INGO.
    • Be detail-orientated, and committed to undertaking work in a logical and disciplined manner, in line with the prescribed methodology.
    • Ability to complete multiple projects, with conflicting priorities, on a timely basis.
    • Good experience in producing high quality effective written communication in English.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate effectively at all levels.

    Global Emergency Communications Officer – Hunger Task Force

    Role Purpose:

    The Global Emergency Communications Officer is responsible for supporting communications materials that bring attention to the global hunger crisis.     Outreach Assistant, Hunger Response Project

    ROLE PURPOSE

    Kenya’s ASAL counties are facing food insecurity following four failed rain seasons that caused household food insecurity as a result of poor crop harvest, poor regeneration of pasture resulting in poor livestock body conditions, and outbreak of livestock diseases such as Foot and Mouth diseases, and drying of water points leading to water scarcity. An estimated 4.5 million people require immediate humanitarian assistance while 754,906 children require urgent treatment for malnutrition. Save the Children and its local partners is responding to the drought in four counties namely; Wajir, Mandera, Turkana and Garissa. Save the Children aims is responding by providing life-saving assistance through a range of interventions in health, nutrition, children protection, livelihoods and education.

    The role will be in charge of managing integrated health and nutrition outreaches and nutrition supplementation through Cash intervention in Turkana North. The post holders will support nutrition mass screening programmes in partnership with the sub-counties health officials and other partners at the sub-county level. He/She will ensure that outreaches are done in line with MoH and SCI standards, oversee outreach mobilization programmes, and support the MoH to collect and collate data for outreaches. She/He will also ensure effective referral system between the outreach site and link health care facilities.

    SCOPE OF ROLE:

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan and organize integrated health and nutrition outreach sites at designated sites in liaison with the nutrition officer.
    • Liaise with the Nutrition Officer and Programme coordinator to plan for logistics for various integrated health and nutrition outreaches.
    • Ensure that SCI and MoH outreach protocols/Sops are applied to integrated outreaches.
    • Work with MoH staff and officials to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed by MoH and appropriate referrals take place to and from MoH and the OTP/SFP
    • Ensure cases not meeting admission criteria return home as early as possible and understand why their child is not admitted.
    • Coordinate referrals for children with complications.
    • Screen children five years and pregnant and lactating women for malnutrition using MUAC and Z score.
    • Coordinate with Nutrition officer and the sub-county MoH teams to ensure adequate supplies (RUFT, RUSF, and CSB) for the outreaches.
    • Request specific children to be followed up as required (newly enrolled children, sick children, long stay children / children not gaining weight, children with social problems etc).
    • Provide appropriate orientation for all community health volunteers engaged in the outreach programme.
    • Provide appropriate training to outreach team members (orientation and regular training).
    • Establish team coordination, collaborative team work, internal information sharing (daily briefings weekly coordination meetings, etc) with constant focus on improving the effectiveness of outreach teams collaboration
    • Maintain constant focus on improving outreach information sharing (timely and relevant information)
    • Ensuring outreach teams are equipped with adequate portable devices to support efficient and effective information sharing
    • Collect outreach monitoring data for reporting purposes and sharing and coordination internally and externally (Daily report, Weekly/Biweekly report, Case studies, monthly reports)
    • Local level awareness raising on best feeding practices for infants and young children amongst other humanitarian actors in the locality.
    • Supports the Child Safeguarding focal point to ensure that child safeguarding and safe programming is embedded in the project and considered throughout implementation to ensure that we do all we can to ensure children in our programs are safe, in line with our child safeguarding policy.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    Essential

    • Diploma or degree in (nursing/nutrition/public health) or equivalent
    • Minimum 1 year experience of emergency nutrition work (preferably CMAM) and implementation of feeding programs, including monitoring and evaluation.
    • Experience in conducting nutrition assessments and an understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems.
    • Proven capacity of management, leadership and teamwork.
    • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with all beneficiaries.
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions.
    • Strong report writing and computer skills.
    • Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment.

    Supply Chain Officer – Maternity Cover

    ROLE PURPOSE

    The role will work with the Supply Chain Coordinator and the Supply chain team to build the programmes Supply chain and operational capacity to plan and manage programmes resources and assets efficiently and effectively, assist the programmes meet their commitments and deliverables to their beneficiaries and donors.

    • Assist in ensuring all stock movements are documented using SCI documents (GRNs, Waybills, Stock Releases, Stock Cards, Stock Reports)
    • Assist in preparing and circulating the warehouse report on a weekly basis to the relevant budget holders and programme staff.
    • Assist in ensuring all stock discrepancies/damages are properly documented, investigated and reported to budget holders and Supply chain Coordinator.
    • Assist in Organizing and planning for the transportation of project supplies to the various field offices.
    • Assist in ensuring warehouses are kept secure at all times and are maintained, clean, well -organised and pest free.
    • Support in managing the incoming and outgoing stock according to the warehousing and stock Management.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    Essential

    • First degree in Logistics Management, business administration or related area
    • 4 years prior experience in logistics management in the NGO sector, within country programmes and in emergency response/humanitarian environments
    • Proven experience in all technical areas of logistics operations including procurement, transport/distribution, warehousing and stock management, fleet management, asset management, communications, and security
    • Experience of working in remote field bases with limited infrastructure
    • Experiencing in managing, and supervising and training staff in supply chain
    • Ability to prepare Supply Chain reports
    • Ability to synthesise and analyse information, and make clear, informed decisions
    • Ability to build relationships quickly with a wide range of people, both internally and externally
    • Strong planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of diverse tasks and responsibilities
    • Cultural awareness, with strong written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills
    • Willingness to work and travel in often difficult and insecure environments;
    • Fluent in English, both written and oral; Local language skills a major advantage.

    Desirable

    • Technical experience/training in specific areas of Supply chain eg fleet mechanics, IT/communications networks
    • Technical experience/knowledge in specific types of humanitarian intervention e.g. Child protection, Education, Health, WASH, Food Security, Construction
    • Experience working with ERP system
    • Fluent in English and Swahili
