    Senior Grants Manager

    About the role:

    The Senior Grants Manager is the focal point for proposal development, reporting, grants information management, compliance, and grants management capacity-building efforts. The Senior Grants Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders in various departments and will report to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Grants.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Pre-award responsibilities: 

    • Researching and developing a grants portfolio, including solicited and unsolicited opportunities. 
    • Managing the full grant cycle, including solicitation, proposal writing, implementation, monitoring, compliance, reporting, and close-out. 
    • Managing all aspects of the proposal development process – incl. the development of the technical narrative, M&E, development of budgets and budget narratives, required annexes, etc.  
    • Directly manages timelines and the overall progression of work undertaken by internal teams to ensure the on-time completion and submission of high-quality application packages.  
    • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders. 

    Leads the post-award grants management of a diverse portfolio of projects: 

    • Ensures timely completion of milestones and maintains complete project documentation for a wide range of grants simultaneously. 
    • Spearhead external stakeholder grant meetings to identify and help resolve needs, and constraints, and ensure successful delivery. 
    • Keep the supervisor informed of any projected inability to meet contractual obligations. Be able to actively mitigate risks through proactively proposing remedial solutions. 
    • Manages the close-out process for projects, ensures required documents are developed, and manages the overall close-out timeline. 
    • Provides overall capacity building, training, and supervision of grant writers.  

    Skills and Experience

    • At least eight (8) years of grant writing and grant management experience. 
    • Demonstrated project management experience related to implementing and managing complex projects simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, to lead and work within diverse teams, to work in multi-cultural settings and with a high degree of independence.
    • Demonstrated track record of winning solicited and unsolicited grants, from a diverse range of organizations.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
    • Strong M&E skills, able to build frameworks and track and monitor deliverables.
    • Excellent PowerPoint and Excel skills.

    Intellectual Property (IP) Lawyer

    About the role

    BURN Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intellectual Property (IP) Lawyer to join our legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for representing BURN in all intellectual property matters within our markets.

    This role involves handling trademark applications, obtaining certificates for legal proceedings, addressing counterfeit goods issues, and overseeing the recordation of intellectual property rights.

    Additionally, the IP Lawyer will play a crucial role in civil and criminal proceedings, conduct investigative and market survey services, and provide comprehensive legal support related to intellectual property.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Represent BURN in all intellectual property matters.
    • Manage trademark applications and obtain certificates for legal proceedings.
    • Represent BURN in formal complaints or reports on counterfeit goods to the relevant authorities.
    • Oversee the recordation of intellectual property rights at the relevant authorities.
    • Represent BURN in civil suits for compensation related to infringement of its intellectual property rights.
    •  Represent BURN in criminal proceedings involving intellectual property issues.
    • Conduct investigative and market survey services to safeguard BURN's intellectual property.
    • Handle cases and issues related to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
    • Draft, negotiate, interpret, and advise BURN on agreements and contracts related to intellectual property, including license agreements, non-disclosure agreements, manufacturing agreements, and supply agreements.
    • Review BURN inventions and innovations, determine patent eligibility, and prepare and file necessary paperwork.
    • Assist with franchising, distribution, and technology transfers to protect BURN's intellectual property interests.

    Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in law; additional specialization in Intellectual Property Law is highly desirable.
    • 5 years of proven post-qualification experience in handling intellectual property matters, preferably in a corporate setting.
    • Admitted to the Kenyan Bar and in good standing.
    • Strong understanding of trademark applications, patent law, copyright, and trade secret regulations.
    • Experience in civil and criminal proceedings related to intellectual property.
    • Ability to conduct investigative and market survey services to protect intellectual property rights.
    • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills for agreements and contracts related to intellectual property.
    • In-depth knowledge of anti-counterfeit authorities procedures and requirements.
    • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

    Environmental, Social Governance (ESG) & Impact Manager

    About the role

    • BURN Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental, Social Governance (ESG) & Impact Manager to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya.
    • The selected individual will play a pivotal role in conducting Social & Environmental (S&E) due diligence, monitoring, and reporting in adherence to BURN’s Sustainability Handbook and other organizational policies.
    • The ESG & Impact Manager will actively contribute to the achievement of BURN’s impact goals, ensuring alignment with industry reporting standards.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Understand ESG principles and tailor strategies to meet specific organizational needs.
    • Integrate ESG into the overall business strategy as a value driver for BURN.
    • Conduct ESG training, capacity building, and skills enhancement programs specific to the company.
    • Advocate for shared value and demonstrate measurable impact.
    • Perform ESG due diligence (ESDD) and audits, enhancing organizational capacity.
    • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of BURN's ESG action plans (ESAP).
    • Prepare comprehensive ESG/Sustainability reports.
    • Establish effective corporate governance structures, procedures, and processes for sustainability, stakeholder value, and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
    • Ensure investor readiness for BURN by addressing ESG considerations.
    • Conduct research on emerging sustainability trends, assess their impact on BURN's strategy, and provide insights for informed decision-making.
    • Measure and communicate progress on the impact strategy to stakeholders.
    • Collaborate in S&E screening with investment principals, engage external consultants for SEDD, and contribute to term sheets and Facility Agreements, embedding SE conditionalities.
    • Proactively lead S&E and portfolio company monitoring and reporting.
    • Oversee ESG and impact data capturing, ensuring data integrity.
    • Prepare the annual impact report for the Board and Shareholders at BURN.

    Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, public policy, economics, sustainability, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the sustainability space.
    • Familiarity with industry standards, requirements, and best practices including the: Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), Principal Adverse Sustainability Impacts Statement (PIAS), IFC Sustainability Framework, and International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
    • Strong research and analytical skills, with practical expertise in performing Social & Environmental due diligence.
    • Proficiency in working with quantitative and qualitative data, data analysis, and reporting with keen attention to detail.
    • Ability to engage and influence a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
    • Working knowledge of climate change and TCFD requirements.
    • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
