    Project Development and Biodiversity Specialist

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • In consultation with the Branch Coordinator, Head of the Nature Transformation & Mainstreaming Unit, and the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership Global Coordinator, the consultant will undertake the following assignments:
    • Develop a Project Document for an umbrella NBSAP Acceleration and Implementation project. To this end, the consultant will: Review existing materials including the concept note approved by the Concept Approval Group and Project Preparation Proposal and map existing NBSAP acceleration and implementation activities by UNEP and core partners
    • Undertake relevant consultations within the Biodiversity and Land Branch, other branches and divisions in UNEP, other UN agencies and external stakeholders on the role of UNEP in providing NBSAP acceleration and implementation services.
    • Develop of a Theory of Change (ToC) and results framework to form the basis of the logical framework for UNEP’s NBSAP acceleration and implementation strategy and demonstrate how it will contribute to UNEPs Programme of Work and Medium-Term Strategy and overall long-term impact.
    • Develop a full “NBSAP Acceleration and Implementation” project document according to the specifications in the UNEP Programme Manual including Environmental and Social Safeguards, gender mainstreaming and Sustainability. This must be undertaken in close collaboration with the responsible UNEP staff.
    • Review, fact check and finalise the project document to ensure that all UN Environment project development guidelines are met and that the proposed project addresses priority needs and is both cost effective and implementable.
    • Invite review from colleagues across UNEP.
    • Address reviewer comments including those from the Project Review Committee and prepare resubmission.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • An advanced university degree in environmental sciences, law, conservation, ecology, project management, natural resource management or economics, or a related subject is required.
    • A first degree together with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
    • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the development of project proposals, management, and sustainable use of biodiversity or related areas of work is required.
    • Required field of work and where applicable, area of specialty: Environmental Management, Environmental Law, Conservation, Natural resources management, and resource economics is required.
    • Previous experience in developing Project Documents for UNEP is required.
    • Demonstrated skills in results-based management using a Theory of Change and logical framework approach is desirable In-depth knowledge of UNEP internal processes and project frameworks is required Excellent, persuasive writing skills in particular in the context of communicating complex project documentation is desirable.
    • Good knowledge of different international donor processes and mechanisms is desirable.
    • Excellent networking and communication skills, and experience engaging with multiple parties and stakeholders using participatory techniques is desirable
    • Skills in safeguards development and gender mainstreaming is desirable
    • Project budgeting skills is desirable
    • Demonstrated skills in the preparation of complex project documents is desirable

    Air Quality Consultant

    Duties

    • One event focused on private sector engagement on air quality, organized jointly with an Output 1 partner.
    • One knowledge product focused on creating a stronger enabling environment for private sector engagement on air quality, developed jointly with an Output 1 partner.
    • One draft discussion document on the global network developed for UNEP management.
    • Coordination and submission of at least, one air quality funding proposal.
    • Development and facilitation of two internal consultations on the global cooperation network.
    • Development and facilitation of two external consultations on the global cooperation network.
    • Drafting of TORs for the global cooperation network.
    • Development of internal resources to support the development of future UNEP air quality funding proposals.
    • Finalise the conceptualization of the air quality cooperation network
    • Support the organization and facilitation of the first network meeting.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • An advanced university degree in environment management, international development, social studies or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • A first level degree with an additional two years of qualified experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
    • At least 5 years of progressive experience in preparation, designing and implementation of international development projects, ideally in the field of environment is required

    Information Systems Assistant

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Familiarize with existing databases and systems and develop a detailed work plan for the overall consultancy assignment, identifying the various milestones with clear timelines.
    • Perform a detailed review of existing documentation and new recommended features and modifications on the system and provide written substantive and technical recommendations and requirements.
    • Develop new features and changes and fully implement UI/UX features as per the approved design.
    • Undertake the necessary changes and redesign the database system, including cleaning and transforming procedures, to implement the new UX/UI design.
    • Analyze, design, and develop the UNEA Monitoring and Reporting Portal interfaces with other applications and portals as required
    • Provide web application administration and maintenance of UNEA Monitoring and Reporting Portal and other related UNEP portals and applications as required covering: web application performance analysis, software updates, maintenance and troubleshooting, technical support, optimization data analysis, visualization, and extraction.
    • Produce all the required supporting documentation for the systems, including written and visual reports on relevant upgrades as required for visibility, traffic, and implementation.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Advanced Statistical Analysis, Information Technology or Software Engineering.
    • Computer skills and competencies: High proficiency in at least 3: PHP, MySQL databases, MS SQL, Asp.net, C-Sharp, Java Script. PowerApps, In-depth knowledge of the AGILE methodology.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in database development and archiving, software systems analysis, design, and development. Experience in complex web application projects and experience with UN agencies or international organizations is an asset.
    • Experience working in teams, including coordinating junior members and engaging with clients.
    • Working with multicultural teams would be an advantage.
