    Legal Counsel

    JOB PURPOSE

    The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing the organization with support to facilitate effective legal services, advice, and representation for all legal issues either directly or with the support of external lawyers. The role holder is also responsible for supporting the Legal team in all legal matters and providing support on advice given to the business and regulatory functions on legal issues in a timely manner while ensuring consistency of approach and style.

    Responsibilities

    Legal Due Diligence

    • Draft contracts, agreements and notifications as required in a timely manner and ensuring that they are compliant with internal standards and legal requirements
    • Provide support when advising concerning business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations
    • Support the development of strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases

    Legal Research and Evaluation

    • Support research on laws, rulings and regulations to safeguard and legally protect business operations
    • Gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions, by such means as interviewing clients and witnesses to ascertain the facts of a case
    • Support the development of strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases
    • Research the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents and research
    • Keep abreast of the changes to laws and regulations of the region, monitor legal publications and study the new trends related to legal practices and their impact on the current scenario

     Legal Policies and Procedures

    • Research policies for legal correctness with a view to provide legal advice in relation to the drafting of contracts/policies
    • Ensure necessary law applications to protect the organization in conjunction with allowing for commercial advantages
    • Develop reports on internal legal process is followed and tasks are completed within the deadlines
    • Report any lections that might interfere with the operations of the company

    Human Capital Responsibilities

    • Assist with the implementation of the performance management process by setting objectives, monitoring performance, and provide constructive feedback and provide inputs to senior management
    • Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles
    • Provide inputs on training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements
    • Develop and implement on the job-training for the team
    • Provide inputs for the development of annual manpower plan
    • Ensure the implementation of company’s corporate policies and relevant procedures

    Definition of Success

    • Quality of legal reviews
    • Timely and effective settlement of legal issues
    • Compliance with procedural and legislative requirements
    • Effective communication of policies and procedures and updated laws and regulations

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Law
    • Excellent business communication and presentation
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Analytical problem solving
    • Time management
    • Team management
    • A minimum of 6+ years’ of legal experience, 2+ years in retail experience.

    Risk & Compliance Officer

    JOB PURPOSE

    The Risk and Compliance Officer is responsible for the protection of the store premises, assets and personnel.

    Responsibilities

    Security Responsibilities

    • Protect store employees, customers and assets by maintaining a safe and secure environment
    • Act lawfully in direct defense of life or property
    • Apprehend suspected criminals and perform the suspect handling procedures
    • Report direct manager in detail any incidents such as property damage, unusual occurrences, thefts, suspected behaviors and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment
    • Greet all visitors, vendors, and employees, while continuously maintaining the standards of excellence in presentation and professionalism.
    • Perform first aid or CPR if required

     Human Capital Responsibilities

    • Participate in professional development opportunities to improve leadership and technical skills pertaining to the direct line of work
    • Apply and follow MAF Retail’s Human Capital and corporate policies, relevant procedures and instructions

     Qualifications

    • Diploma or equivalent
    • Security certificate or equivalent is preferred
    • Highly organized with strong multitasking skills
    • Adapt in a multicultural environment
    • Excellent listening abilities
    • High attention to detail
    • 2+ years of related experience.
    • Retail industry experience is a plus

    Preferred Languages

    • English (Full professional proficiency – Required)

    Tax Supervisor

    JOB PURPOSE

    The Tax Supervisor is responsible for supporting all tax operations including tax planning and strategy transfer pricing and other tax policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities

    Tax Strategy and Projects

    • Collect research on tax-saving strategies
    • Participate in due diligence and structuring related to new openings, mergers and acquisition and divestures
    • Support the process related to government returns for companies within client’s Retail function.

     Tax Laws

    • Research the implications of tax laws and advise on tax related issues to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
    • Collect research on the application and interpretation of the country’s tax code and their implementation
    • Stay updated on International Tax Laws and providing expert knowledge to concerned stakeholders

     Tax Advice

    • Facilitate resolution of tax audit exercises within the operating jurisdiction
    • Provide support in order to minimize tax risks associated with business operations and dealings

     Record keeping and Reporting

    • Support the reporting process of company’s annual earnings, expenditures and investments
    • Reconcile tax data on financial statements when required
    • Support the process of tracking income and assets taxes

     Human Capital Responsibilities

    • Proactively identify and seek professional development opportunities to improve leadership and technical skills pertaining to the direct line of work.
    • Apply and follow organization’s Human Capital corporate policies and relevant procedures and instructions.
    • Provide training and feedback to direct reportees when required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce / Economics / Finance.
    • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to train on system usage.
    • Time management and organizational skills.
    • Good problem-solving skills.
    • High attention to detail.

    Minimum experience

    • 0-2 years in a Tax department
