    Medical Specialist II – (Pediatric)

    Job Purpose

    The Medical Specialists (Paediatric) are responsible to the Head of Department in provision of specialized diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative and preventive health care services to the population under their care; they are entrusted to provide quality health care services.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Implement clinical decisions for specialised quality inpatient and outpatient care that includes provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services;
    • Implement hospital programmes within their respective specialities
    • Champion continuous quality healthcare standards and patient safety guidelines
    • Assist in mentoring and coaching of staff in the respective specialities;
    • Coordinate intervention activities and programs for training health professionals in community health and health management in hospitals/health facilities
    • Implementing clinical review protocols procedures and work instructions for the
    • Coordinating and managing referral care within the framework of the hospital and national referral policies
    • Consult with other specialists to solve single or multiple medical issues as required by patients in the hospital
    • Undertaking research activities in the speciality and implement the research findings to improve quality of service delivery

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Masters of Medicine degree in Paediatric or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

    The Medical Specialists (Psychiatry) are responsible to Head of Department in the provision of specialized diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative and preventive health care services to the population under their care; they are entrusted to provide quality health care services.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assessing and managing patients;

    • Training, supervising and mentoring postgraduate students, Medical Officers, Medical Intern and other students;

    Job purpose

    The Medical Specialists (Radiology) are responsible to Head of Department in the provision of specialized diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative and preventive health care services to the population under their care; they are entrusted to provide quality health care services.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Reviewing patients and instructing in writing all the recommendations;
    • Undertaking “First-on-Call” duties including clerking, investigating and managing patients;
    • Conducting weekly clinic and theatre days;

    Medical Specialist II (Radiation / Clinical Oncology) (2 Positions)

    Job Purpose

    The Medical Specialists (Radiation/Clinical Oncology) are responsible to a Head of Department in the provision of specialized diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative and preventive health care services to the population under their care; they are entrusted to provide quality health care
    services.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Managing and treating cancer patients in coordination with the other departmental staff throughout the entire course of cancer treatment.
    • Collecting medical histories and performing physical evaluations in addition to basic administrative duties, such as maintaining records, coordinating with other medical personnel, to offer treatment to patients.
    • Investigate and request appropriate investigations and able to interpret them in order to select appropriate oncologic treatment options.
    • Prescribing various types of treatment, such as chemotherapy, medications and targeted
    • hormonal therapy.
    • Treatment of cancer patients using advanced treatment technology like IMRT, VMAT, intra-cavity/interstitial Brachytherapy, 3D Conformal Radiotherapy and manipulation of
    • computer-based tools in achieving treatment goals.
    • Performing procedures to treat regions of the body affected by cancer treatment.
    • Writing prescriptions, providing specific cancer information to patients, monitoring treatment plans and improving patients' quality of life.
    • Explaining cancer development stages to patients, discussing treatment options and assisting in symptom management.
    • Caring for patients throughout the entire course of cancer treatment, from diagnosis to recovery or death.
    • Ensure quality assurance is achieved on equipment, accessories and treatment plans to enhance patient safety
    • Maintain accurate database of patient information and treatment plans.
    • Active participation in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and able to consult widely with other sub specialty in Oncology for the best interest of the patient.
    • Be research oriented and able to enhance evidence-based practice

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Master’s Degree in Radiation Oncology OR Masters of Clinical Oncology equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB.) or its equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
    • Specialist recognition certificate in Radiation Oncology or Clinical Oncology from the Medical Practitioners’ and Dentist Council.
    • Registration Certificate by the Medical Practitioners & Dentist Council.
    • Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
    • Valid license from the Kenya Radiation Protection Board with prior experience of working with linear accelerators and simulation.
    • Proof of knowledge in sound diagnostic skills and judgement.
    • Proof of Proficiency in Information Technology with regards to Oncology Information System (added advantage)
