    Nutrition Assistant

    The purpose of this position is to support the implementation of the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) programs, nutrition surveillance and assessment including Mass Screening, and Promotion of Maternal infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN) in Turkana West Sub-County. The incumbent will report and work under the guidance of the Nutrition officer.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Program Implementation

    • Assist in conducting routine community and facility-based nutrition screening for children under five and pregnant and lactating women following national CMAM guidelines.
    • Support enrolment, referral, follow-up and tracking of malnutrition cases in collaboration with community health volunteers and MOH health staff.
    • Provide basic support in facility-based and outreach management of acute malnutrition (OTP/SFP).
    • Promote MIYCN practices including breastfeeding counselling and complementary feeding messages in community settings.
    • Support delivery of behaviour change communication on key nutrition and health practices.

    Community Mobilization & Capacity Building

    • Support, mentor and mobilize community health volunteers and outreach workers to improve screening, referral, and follow-up.
    • Provide on-the-job training and coaching to volunteers on CMAM, MIYCN best practices.

    Monitoring & Reporting

    • Collect, compile and submit weekly, monthly and ad-hoc program data and activity reports to the Nutrition Officer in line with donor and organizational standards.
    • Support accurate data entry and quality assurance of program monitoring tools.
    • Assist in preparation of case studies, success stories and lessons learned.

    Coordination

    • Participate in stakeholder meetings at community and sub-county level as required by supervisor.
    • Liaise with the health facility teams, WASH and protection counterparts to support integrated referral pathways.

    Logistics Support

    • Track basic nutrition commodities and equipment at field sites and report stock levels to Nutrition Officer.

    Other Duties

    • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:  

    Required Education and Experience

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition & Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or related field from a recognized institution.
    • Registered with the Kenya Nutrition & Dietetics Institute (KNDI) preferred.
    • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience implementing community nutrition programs with exposure to CMAM, MIYCN, IMAM surge or related interventions.

    MEAL Assistant

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    MEAL Planning, Tools & Data Management

    • Conduct background research to inform programme design.
    • Support development of logframes and theories of change.
    • Support in developing MEAL plans with clear indicators, tools, analysis, and reporting frameworks.
    • Support in designing and refining of data collection tools (baseline, endline, FGDs, KIIs).
    • Review and improve existing tools and data systems.
    • Integrate team feedback to strengthen data management processes.
    • Ensure timely data entry and updates in LogAlto and other systems.

    Monitoring & Reporting

    • Lead accurate, timely data collection using participatory approaches.
    • Conduct field monitoring, evaluations, and desk reviews.
    • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and share findings.
    • Train staff on tools, data collection, and reporting.
    • Facilitate learning and adaptive programming based on findings.
    • Support preparation of program updates, donor reports, and completion reports.
    • Track MEAL workplans and flag risks or delays for corrective action.

    Assesment, Surveys & Evaluation

    • Coordinate baseline, endline, and ongoing evaluations.
    • Support assessments (KAP, PDM, Baseline, real-time evaluations).
    • Develop TORs and support recruitment of external evaluators.
    • Review survey reports to ensure quality and accuracy.
    • Promote use of evaluation findings for programme improvement.

    Learning, Accountability & Capacity Building

    • Strengthen accountability systems, including feedback mechanisms (FRM).
    • Collect and analyze community feedback for programme improvement.
    • Build staff capacity in MEAL tools and approaches.
    • Promote learning, documentation of best practices, and knowledge sharing.
    • Support two-way communication with communities.

    Coordination & Representation

    • Assist in maintaining strong stakeholder and partner relationships.
    • Represent the organization in coordination forums in the absence of the MEAL Officer.
    • Ensure continuous communication of findings to inform decision-making.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: social sciences, statistics, demographics, monitoring and evaluation or a related field.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in the field of MEAL (including indicator selection, target setting, data collection and analysis, facilitating learning processes, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and performance monitoring plans);
    • Knowledge of the major evaluation types (process, impact etc.), methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, mixed method) and data collection and analysis methods.
    • Experience in developing data collection instruments.
    • Planning and managing surveys, developing and refining data collection methods and tools, conducting data quality assessments and oversight - experience and knowledge of participatory MEAL methods.

    Project Officer Protection

    The Project Officer Protection will report to the Protection Manager and will also serve as a focal point for IsraAID and partner agencies on technical matters relating to CP, MHPSS, child protection and gender based violence service provision for community members in Marakwet East Sub-County.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Program Management

    • Lead the implementation of CP, GBV and MHPSS programming by providing technical expertise within the sub-county.
    • Provide specialized psychosocial support to referrals from health facilities, schools, community-based organizations and protection cluster groups, particularly the MHPSS cluster.
    • Disseminate CP, GBV and MHPSS key messages through community awareness campaigns in collaboration with Community-Based Organizations.
    • Establish and facilitate community-based psychosocial support groups to promote healing and restore well-being.
    • Support school club patrons in the strengthening or formation of integrated Protection and WASH clubs, including delivering school-based protection messaging through club members.
    • Co-facilitate MHPSS training sessions for first responders, protection cluster groups and Community-Based Organization representatives.
    • Facilitate youth groups peer quarterly peer learning sessions including debrief sessions for first responders.
    • Liaise with MHPSS cluster members to identify and support cases requiring specialized psychosocial support.
    • Conduct follow-ups for clients referred for specialized care.
    • Maintain a database of project participants in collaboration with the MEAL Officer and Protection Manager.
    • Lead weekly and monthly planning for CP, GBV and MHPSS activities, ensuring timely, efficient and effective implementation.
    • Monitor and provide participatory leadership in delivering C, GBV, MHPSS services in line with national and international standards and guiding principles.
    • Support the formulation, training and coordination of the Mass Casualty Plan multisectoral team.

    Administration

    • Ensure all project inventories are up to date in accordance with procurement guidelines.
    • Compile and submit weekly and monthly reports to the Protection Manager.
    • Maintain accurate case records and share relevant information with appropriate staff and stakeholders.

    Coordination with external partners

    • Participate and contribute towards partners coordinated activities, especially protection-based calendar events and stakeholder coordination.
    • Liaise with Community Based Organizations, NGOs/INGOs, County and National Government agencies within project locations to strengthen pathways for child protection, gender-based violence and mental health and psychosocial support.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in counselling psychology, social work, gender studies or a related field.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in community-based programming focused on GBV, MHPSS and Child Protection.
    • Experience in emergency preparedness, response and recovery programming is desirable.
    • Prior experience working with adolescents, women and girls in providing protection services.
    • Knowledge of Group Problem Management Plus (GPM+) is an added advantage.
    • Experience providing individual and group psychosocial support services preferably in similar contexts.
    • Good understanding of the Elgeyo Marakwet County context and experience implementing similar programs.
    • Basic understanding of community managed disaster risk reduction approaches.
