    High School Math Educator

    High School Math Educator Volunteers work collaboratively with Kenyan counterparts in four focus areas:

    • Building teacher capacity through formal and informal Communities of Practice
    • Increasing student skills and performance in STEM through direct classroom teaching
    • Promoting increased community involvement to support school activities
    • Co-developing materials and increasing access to materials/resources to support a STEM approach to math and science

    Required skills

    Competitive candidates will have one or more of the following criteria:

    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in math
    • OR
    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any discipline with secondary certification in math
    • OR
    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in Math, Engineering, or Computer Science
    • OR
    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any discipline with a minor or equivalent (15 semester/22 quarter hours) in math

    Desired skills

    The most successful candidates will have one or more of the following relevant qualifications:

    • Prior teaching experience, preferably with secondary school students
    • Experience teaching large classes (50+ students)
    • Experience designing educational content using limited resources
    • Experience in using virtual resources and educational technology to teach
    • Experience in school and/or community presentations with children, youth or adult learners
    • Experience with youth development, particularly life skills development, promotion of healthy lifestyles, camps, youth clubs, scouts, etc.
    • Experience or interest in working with Special Needs students, especially Deaf students in secondary schools

    Educator for the Deaf

    E4D Volunteers work collaboratively with their local counterparts and communities in five focus areas:

    • Building teacher capacity through Communities of Practice
    • Supporting Deaf students in strengthening KSL, literacy and/or numeracy skills through direct classroom teaching
    • Promoting increased involvement of families and caregivers to support Deaf students’ education
    • Adapting and developing teaching/learning materials and increasing access to materials/resources to support E4D initiatives
    • Building Deaf students’ capacity to protect themselves from violence, STIs, unintended pregnancies, and sexual assault

    Required skills

    Competitive candidates will have one or more of the following criteria:

    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education (general or with emphasis in working with people with visual or hearing disabilities.)
    • OR
    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any discipline with state certification in special education (general or with an emphasis in working with people with visual or hearing disabilities.)
    • OR
    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in Education with experience working with people with disabilities, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and psychological disabilities.
    • OR
    • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any discipline with 1 year full-time experience working in classrooms or residential homes with people with disabilities, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and psychological disabilities.
