    Communications Officer

    Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

    External Communications

    • Maintain social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter) for the MA; Proactively manage the
      generation and posting of content on the sites; Design and implement strategies to increase the
      number of followers at each site.
    • Regularly and proactively document best practices and lessons learned from program
      implementations, package them into communications materials and disseminate to the right
      audiences,
    • In liason with facility heads, produce news and feature stories, publicity materials, press releases,
      photographs, videos, partnership marketing resources and other strategic and targeted
      communications as required.
    • Design and desk top publishing of SOS Children’s Villages Kenya fact sheets, reports, brochures
      and newsletters.
    • Research and produce internal and external communication content for the organization and SOS
      Kinderdorf global communications as required for various purposes

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience Required

    • Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public relations and any related course
    • Must be computer literate.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in Communications
    • Well-developed communication and report writing

    Programme Accountant

    Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

    Financial Reporting

    • Budget preparation and monitoring
    • Preparation of location financial reports and provide support in variance analysis
    • Data entry and proper filing of documents in respect to all processes
    • Perform monthly data entry checks on Navision data to ensure data quality
    • In a timely manner, address all data quality issues raised by the National Office, in respect to the location
    • Prepare and review of all payments (for compliance to the law and grant agreement) before forwarding the same to the Programme Director
    • Update and reconcile all payables listing (including accruals)
    • Update and reconcile all receivables listing

    Bank Reconciliation

    • Prepare monthly bank and petty cash reconciliation for the said facilities

    Audits

    • Assist in coordination of internal and external audit
    • Ensuring all internal and external audit issues raised in respect to the location are closed in a timely manner

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience Required

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting from a recognized institution of higher learning.
    • A CPA part 2 is desirable
    • A minimum of 3 years working experience with progressive responsibility preferably with an international NGO
    • A good understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles, with working knowledge of all
    • statutory legislation and regulations pertaining to finance.
    • Proficient user of MS –Navision Dynamics is preferred. Knowledge Excel and Word is a must.
    • Able to work under pressure, with strong organizational, planning, prioritization and execution skills
    • and the ability take accountability for results and achievement of objectives.
    • Enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic and dynamic hands-on individual with a sense of urgency, attention
    • to detail, thoroughness and unquestionable integrity.

    Teacher

    Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

    Leads all activities within the assigned class

    • Prepares lesson plans and outlines in accordance with the curriculum guidelines or
      requirements of the school or government.
    • Teaches lessons and facilitates or supervises a variety of non-academic activities which may
      include art, crafts, story-telling, sport, nature walks etc.
    • Ensures all necessary preparations are made prior to each lesson.
    • Arranges cultural activities to educate children in local culture and custom.
    • Involves children in the operations and maintenance of the school, including cleaning
      classrooms, tending flowers beds etc.

    Creates a stimulating learning environment

    • Maintains a positive degree of discipline inside and outside the classroom in order to create a
      safe secure and appropriate environment for learning.
    • Promotes a warm, supportive, non-threatening ethos in which the child finds learning
      enjoyable and stimulating and in which respect and co-operation are emphasised.
    • Uses creative teaching methods to nurture the children’s interest in learning, e.g., use drama,
      storytelling, and singing or art to enhance the learning experience.
    • Creates a lively, stimulating atmosphere in the classroom, e.g., by decorating the walls with
      children’s arts and crafts or by establishing a ‘nature corner’.
    • Maintains the classroom in a neat and tidy condition in order to create an environment
      conducive to learning.

    Ensures the educational development of each child

    • Provides individual attention to each child, monitoring their educational progress and taking
      appropriate corrective action as necessary.
    • Conducts academic support programmes such as holiday classes, remedial classes and
      individual tutoring to meet the educational needs of each child.
    • Develops and implements homework programmes which may include project work, extra
      reading or other assignments.
    • Prepares progress reports for each child as required by the principal, detailing the child’s
      academic progress as well as overall development.

    General

    • Supervises extra-mural activities such as organised sports, clubs etc.
    • Performs administrative or other extra duties as required by the Principal, such as store
      keeping, producing the school magazine or organising school events.
    • Maintains all furniture and equipment within the classroom in good order.
    • Behaves in an exemplary manner at all times acting as a role model for the children.
    • Keeps attendance registers, grade records and any other records required by the school.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

    Formal qualifications & Experience Requirements

    • Must possess a P1 Certificate
    • Training in Guidance and counselling will be an added advantage.
    • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Minimum of 3 Years teaching experience.
    • Must be registered by the TSC
    • Must be CBC trained and can teach IRE, English, Mathematics, PHE from grade 1 – 8
    • Have a genuine liking for and interest in young people and demonstrated patience, tolerance and
    • understanding.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, parents and the
    • community at large
    • Possess report writing skills.
    • Significant knowledge of work and educational dynamics in the country.
