    Child Health & Family Planning

    Child Health & Family Planning Job Responsibilities

    • Support and contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of all MNCH, RH/FP activities.
    • In collaboration with the MNCH/FP team identify barriers to MNCH, RH/FP uptake of services and develop innovative approaches/strategies to addressing the barriers.
    • Support provision of quality of MNCH, RH/FP services.
    • Mentor and provide support supervision to health care providers providing MNCH/FP services in Afya Pwani supported facilities.
    • Support OJTs and CMEs in MNCH, RH/FP in Afya supported facilities
    • Work closely with the community program teams to create demand for MNCH, RH/FP services
    • Work with other program teams to provide integrated outreaches.
    • Participate in the development of work plans and implementation.
    • Provide direct technical assistance and support to program counterparts, health facilities, in the areas of expertise including MNCH, RH/FP.

    • Prepare abstracts for national and international meetings/conferences
    • Provide support to operationalize health policies, ensure client responsive services and optimal use of government and donor resources.

    Requirements for the Child Health & Family Planning Job

    • Minimum Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine. A BSc. In Nursing will be an added advantage.
    • At least 8 years hands-on experience in the field of reproductive health, family planning, HIV and AIDS.
    • Experience in public health management, training and capacity building.
    • Training of Trainer skills are essential for this role
    • Experience providing technical assistance in MNCH, RH/FP services
    • Demonstrated collaborative approach including working with Government officials with good negotiation skills, diplomacy and tact

    Senior Technical Advisor HIV/TB

    The Senior Techical Advisor is a senior position and is a key member of the project senior management team. She/he has primary responsibility over the technical direction and coordination of HIV/AIDS/TB activities within the project framework of Afya Pwani. She/he assists the DCOP with the overall management of the HIV/AIDS related program area and elements of the project. Responsibilities also include serving as liaison with USAID and other partners for HIV/AIDS/TB and providing oversight of technical leadership activities in HIV/AIDS/TB. The position will be based at the Project office (Mombasa).

    Responsibilities for the Technical Advisor Job

    • Under the supervision of the DCOP and in very close collaboration with other advisors, the Senior Technical Advisor will perform the following responsibilities:
    • Coordinate Afya Pwani’s efforts to provide quality HIV/AIDS/TB technical assistance to Project region in line with national guidelines
    • Develop strategies to promote transfer of essential HIV/AIDS/TB related management, operational and technical skills to local resources within the CHMTs, collaborating local NGO and private sector organizations.
    • Provide senior technical support and guidance to program staff;
    • Assist the DCOP in developing and updating annual work plans, ensuring that project deliverables are of high quality and produced on time;
    • Provide direct technical inputs to improve the various HIV/AIDS/TB program elements: prevention, treatment, care and support
    • Make contiuous use of all available data to analyze, evaluate, plan and/or document and instill such attitudes in collaborators within and outside the project;
    • Participate in the development and/or identification and/or scale up of innovative strategies to improve the overall quality of HIV/AIDS/TB services available to different target populations;
    • Work very closely with Finance & Administration and M&E to develop and monitor appropriate budgets to support technical activities and oversee the preparation of quarterly, semi annual, annual and other periodic reports for HIV/AIDS/TB program elements;
    • Stay abreast of and make available to colleagues within Afya Pwani and local partners new developments, guidelines and approaches to HIV prevention, care and treatment. Work closely with USAID and other donors to integrate evolving international guidelines into Afya Pwani protocols and standards;
    • Liaise with USAID and other USG-supported HIV/AIDS Projects, other donor Projects, the Ministry of Health and any other pertinent institutional entities working in the area of HIV/AIDS to assure coordination, collaboration and effective and efficient use of HIV/AIDS and TB resources in complementarity to other inputs for Afya Pwani supported sites;
    • Work with the team to produce scientific papers on Afya Pwani’s work;
    • Anticipate trends and develop new HIV/AIDS program areas to keep Afya Pwani competitive in a rapidly changing environment;
    • Represent Afya Pwani at international conferences/working groups, in meetings with national HIV and AIDS programs, donors, technical partners, and maintain contacts with other organizations working in HIV and AIDS control.

    Technical Advisor Job Requirements

    • A medical doctor with an advanced degree ( Masters in Public Health or MMed)
    • Seven or more years of experience in implementing HIV/AIDS/TB control in Kenya.
    • Experience working on integrated health projects is required.
    • Experience in managing large scale USAID funded projects; experience in capacity-building.
    • Excellent English oral presentation and written skills.
    • Experience in developing policy documents and technical guidance, including participating in TWGs.
    • Experience working with USAID agreements and contracts is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience with and understanding of PEPFAR monitoring and evaluation requirements.
    • Proven record of excellent management, leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.

    HIV Testing and Linkages Advisor

    Key Responsibilities for the HIV Testing & Linkages Advisor Job

    • Provide technical advice and oversight for implementation of HIV testing Services and Linkage

    HIV Testing & Linkages Advisor Job Basic Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology will be an added advantage
    • Training in Voluntary HIV counseling, Adherence Counseling, Couple Counseling and Community HIV counseling and testing required

    Nutrition Program Manager

    Nutrition Programme Manager Job Responsibilities

    • Support county level budgetary process which includes costing and tracking investment to nutrition.
    • Support county level development of concepts and strategies that aim to address causes of malnutrition and effective and sustainable means to address them.
    • Facilitate establishment and maintenance of appropriate coordination mechanisms including, steering committees and working groups to coordinate and guide the nutrition sector response plans, operations and related activities at county level.

    • Collaborate with the commodity management team to support strengthening of the integrated nutrition supply chain system.
    • Support facilities to use the integrated supply chain systems in order to improve the efficiency in forecasting, ordering, distribution, monitoring and reporting of essential nutrition supplies
    • Support the CHMTs to collate, review, validation and analysis of nutrition related information including from other sectors to inform better programming, implementation and monitoring.

    Requirements for the Nutrition Programme Manager Job

    • A minimum BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics/Food Science and Nutrition. A Masters degree in Applied Nutrition will be an added advantage.

    • Experience in addressing nutritional issues in HIV/TB and MNCH is essential

    Gender & Youth Manager

    Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor for Gender and Cross-Cutting Issues, (STA) and working closely with the Afya Pwani service delivery technical Coast project teams, the Gender and Youth Technical Manager will provide programming and operational support to the implementation of adolescent, youth and gender integration activities in the five counties. The role will work closely with the Youth, Partnership and Advocacy Adviser, STA to provide program targeted technical assistance and support to the Afya Project team relating to adolescent and youth friendly services (YFS), gender responsive program implementation, strategy development, work plan development, budgeting, implementation and linkage of the various program components including effective monitoring, evaluation, quality improvement and reporting.

    Gender and Youth Manager Job Responsibilities

    • Provide technical support to the respective sub-county youth and gender technical working groups in the coordination of youth and gender mainstreaming and integration activities through formation and strengthening of sub-county and community level youth and gender/GBV working groups;
    • Provide technical support to county teams to mainstream youth friendly services (YFS) within various tiers of care (i.e Tiers 1-3 – community, primary care and county level) through dissemination of national YFS Guidelines (MoH,2016) and the AYSRH Policy (MoH,2015) targeting local implementing partners, S/CHMT, CHMTs, communities and health facilities;
    • Provide technical support to county/sub-county Health Management Teams, local implementing partners (LIPs) and facilities in the development and execution of innovative strategies for implementing youth-friendly, gender-sensitive RH/FP/MNCH programs;
    • Provide guidance and support in integration of GBV prevention and management/ response activities in health facilities including maintenance of safe spaces and shelter;
    • Work with facility quality improvement (QI) teams to support initiatives that increase young people’s access to YFS including HIV Care and Treatment (HCT), and address disrespectful service for mothers;
    • Support and monitor activities that strengthen young persons ability to progressively realize their rights to access quality care and seek accountability from facility-based health services;
    • Support Afya Pwani team efforts to create networks (e.g YPLHIV Support Groups) and referral systems for adolescents and young persons to access appropriate, tailored SRH and related services;
    • Provide support for positive male involvement in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) including promotion of heathy timing and spacing of pregnancy (HTSP) and GBV prevention and response within existing program activities;
    • Work closely with community health workers to identify and train male FP/RH champions in collaboration with other project technical teams;
    • Liaise with the Youth, Partnership and Advocacy Adviser and STA to identify gaps and organize capacity-strengthening packages for sub-grantees and other local partners; including cascading of county AYSRH and gender mainstreaming plans;
    • Provide support in the mobilization of active gender responsive community participation in local systems and structures including institutions serving youth and adolescents;
    • In collaboration with the STA develop, maintain and disseminate a comprehensive gender indicator matrix;
    • Represent Afya Pwani at sub-county and community stakeholder partner forums and liaise with focal points in relevant institutions including Government as may be delegated by the STA
    • Participate in sub-county stakeholder forums to ensure that adolescent and youth needs are articulated and integrated in county development planning processes in a gender-sensitive manner;
    • Support Afya Pwani Project documentation of AYSRH and Gender best practices for replication and dissemination;
    • Prepare and consolidate monthly and quarterly reports respectively reporting on the progress and performance of the program
    • Other duties and assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the STA.

    Requirements for the Gender and Youth Manager Job

    • A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, clinical studies in reproductive health business administration or a relevant discipline
    • 3 years’ experience in working in an international development organization with at least 1 years’ experience in supporting sexual and gender based violence / reproductive health programs
    • A good understanding of AYSRH and gender equality issues with an appreciation for the empowerment of women and girls in Kenya
    • Good knowledge of civil society organizations and government structures in Kenya
    • A good understanding of the social, economic, political and cultural context of Kenya
    • Strong writing skills to support technical reporting
    • Proficiency in MS Office applications and other communication technology such as email and internet
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with fluency in English and Kiswahili
    • Diplomatic, and sensitive to cultural, religious and social diversity;
    • Attention to detail with a strong sense of organization and the ability to work under pressure
    • Ability to work in a team and support others in their work to achieve program goals.

    Project Officer

    Project Officer Job Key Responsibilities

    • Participate in development of annual and quarterly plans and budgets.
    • Participate in the development of local strategies to improve access of communities to services and information.
    • Prepare monthly budget for Kilifi County and present to the MNCH/RH/FP Advisor

    • In a structured way and on a quarterly basis conduct focus group discussions on quality improvement (QI)
    • Participate in maternal audits
    • Equip CHVs with appropriate information and knowledge on FP services
    • Liaise with local partners to strengthen their capacity to engage in a process of dialogue, negotiation and planning for improved health in Kilifi County.
    • Compile comprehensive and timely monthly, quarterly and (bi) annual reports submitted to the MNCH/RH/FP Advisor.
