    Programme Specialist, FGM; Gender & Human Rights Branch, Nairobi, P-3

    Job Purpose

    • Support and lead evidence-based interventions for collective engagement of youth movements and visibility of youth coalitions and networks engaged in the efforts towards the elimination of female genital mutilation. The incumbent will report to the Coordinator of the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM.

    Major Activities/Expected Results

    • The Youth Coordinator will be responsible to provide technical expertise in the development of and coordination of evidence-based interventions to galvanize youth collective actions towards the elimination of FGM.

    Key Tasks Include The Following

    • Conduct situational analysis, monitoring and evaluation and technical oversight of coordination of youth movements in countries of focus for the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM and globally
    • Provide technical support and coordination to youth consortia and networks at global and regional level to strengthen amplification of youth voices and movements
    • Provide technical support to UNFPA’s youth focal persons in countries of focus for the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM to coordinate and effectively link in-country youth movements
    • Serve as liaison between the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM and the youth consortia and networks globally
    • Provide technical support to organizational functions of youth consortia and networks at regional and global level in areas such as work plan development, budget management, election processes, monitoring and evaluation, modes of operation, TORs, etc.
    • Ensure the activities, messages and mandates of global, regional and in-country youth consortia and networks align with those of the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM
    • Contribute into research of youth related interventions that aim to improve efficiency and effectiveness of interventions
    • Support in establishing partnerships between global and regional youth consortia and networks with UNFPA country offices, implementing partners and donor partners
    • Provide support to mobilize resources to support global, regional and in-country youth consortia/networks, through technical support in preparation of grant proposals and communications material
    • Support communications of youth related interventions, including social media and development of a communication and advocacy plan.
    • Support annual forums and conferences related to youth engagement. Prepare and submit annual quarterly reports on youth engagement activities for the global youth consortium.
    • Prepare talking points and briefing notes on content related to youth engagement to UNFPA specialists and partners related to UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM
    • Perform any other tasks as requested by the supervisor

    Education
    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Advanced university degree in social sciences or other related field

    Knowledge And Experience

    • 5 years previous relevant experience in programming engaging youth, youth movements, youth development and communication
    • Proven work in situational assessments, desk reviews, reports on youth movements addressing harmful practices e.g. CM and specifically on FGM is an advantage
    • Proven work experience on digital and social media management or similar role
    • Experience in planning and leading advocacy events and initiatives on youth
    • Technical orientation or programme experience on issues related to female genital mutilation, harmful practices, youth and related themes is an asset
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
    • Excellent interpersonal and presentations skills
    • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
    • Previous work experience with youth led or focus organizations, non governmental organizations, consortia/networks, UN agencies is an asset
    • Fluency in English

    Programme Analyst, Ending Child Marriage; Gender & Human Rights Branch, Nairobi, P-2

    Job Purpose:

    • This post will primarily provide project management support to HQ-led initiatives on ending child marriage and adolescent girls' programming including partnerships to advance comprehensive sexuality education for adolescent girls, engaging boys and young men to end child marriage, building the evidence base on child marriage, promoting the investment in feminist/women-led and youth-led organizations as well as partnerships for research dissemination and uptake, among others. Under the supervision of the Programme Adviser Child Marriage/UNFPA Lead for the Global Programme to End Child Marriage, the analyst will ensure project milestones are achieved and all deliverables are completed by partners on a timely basis. The candidate will also assist in various Global Programme-related events and communications, visibility and knowledge-management initiatives.

    You would be responsible for:

    • Prepare partnership documents; review progress reports; provide and collate feedback to partners on deliverables; ensure quality finished products; manage overall project timelines and archive all the programmatic files.
    • Support partnership with selected implementing partners to achieve programmatic outcomes in key priority areas of the Global Programme to End Child Marriage’s Theory of Change
    • Support the partnership with selected implementing partner to ensure quality and timely completion of expected deliverables as well as archive relevant documentation
    • Support the implementation of work plans including through (a) planning, (b) monitoring and evaluation and (c) technical assistance
    • Support the quarterly and annual reporting through UNFPA systems of the child marriage portfolio
    • Support the compilation and analysis of data on child marriage and adolescent girls’ relevant indicators
    • Support the compliance and follow up on the recommendations from evaluations
    • Provide technical support to HQ-led implementing partners on ending child marriage
    • Support partnership with selected implementing partner for grantmaking to youth-led, feminist or women-led organizations
    • Support partnerships for advancing gender equality with boys and men on masculinities
    • Support the Strategic Technical Assistance for Research initiative (STAR) with the Innocenti Office of Research and relevant partners on evidence generation and dissemination
    • Support the partnership on the Child Marriage Research to Action Network with Girls Not Brides
    • Work closely with the GHRB team to support the integration of gender-transformative and human rights-based approaches through partnerships
    • Assist in knowledge management and communications
    • Organizing various webinars, clinics, and meetings on child marriage in collaboration with UNICEF and other relevant partners and stakeholders, the gender and human rights team, adolescents and youth team, and other branches in the Division
    • Compiling and making available knowledge products for regional and country offices
    • Synthesizing findings of relevant research and evaluations that can support programming at country or regional levels
    • Prepare posts on child marriage and adolescent girls for UNFPA intrasite communities listservs and social media
    • Review various Global Programme reports and communication products, such as newsletters, research digests, and human interest stories, among others, including coordination with the Media and Communications Branch and UNICEF’s KM focal point
    • Prepare publishing group applications and documents on adolescent girls and child marriage for posting on UNFPA.org.
    • Support monitoring, evaluation and learning
    • Contribute to the Global Programme’s and Ending Child Marriage Unit at the Gender and Human Rights Branch quarterly and annual reporting
    • Support monitoring and evaluation activities of the Global Programme to End Child Marriage
    • Support with data compilation and analysis relevant to ending child marriage indicators
    • Support learning activities on ending child marriage within UNFPA

    Qualifications and Experience:
    Education:

    • Post-graduate University Degree in public health, social sciences, public administration, population studies, demography, anthropology and related fields

    Knowledge and Experience:

    • 2 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the coordination and management of international development projects;
    • Knowledge of adolescent girls, child marriage, gender and youth; population data;
    • Excellent written communications skills;
    • Demonstrated experience in programme management and support to civil society organizations; non-profit management;
    • Demonstrated experience in organizing webinars, meetings and knowledge management activities and technical support to country and regional offices;
    • Sound knowledge of the UN’s operational environment desirable;
    • Programmatic communications in the UN System;
    • Data collection and analysis and archiving relevant programmatic documentation

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French, is highly desirable.
