    Reconciliations Accountant

    Job Summary

    Main Purpose

    The Accountant Reconciliation is responsible to facilitate prompt and accurate preparation of various accounting reports and reconciliations to aid management reporting and decisions. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Preparation of bank reconciliations
    • Preparation of general ledger account reconciliations
    • Follow up to ensure that necessary requirements pertaining to payment requests are received
    • Ensure that payments have been set up correctly and the system has been updated accordingly
    • Bank accounts administration management & liaison with the bank representatives
    • Preparation of detailed monthly expenses report and related commentaries
    • Assist in reviewing and testing of financial system and related interfaces, support in systems automation & integration processes
    • Review financial processes for improvement in financial controls & the implementation of greater operational efficiencies
    • Assist in budgeting and planning process including forecasting
    • Prepare and record journal entries and reconciliations and make necessary corrections to ensure the accuracy of our accounting system
    • Compare application, system details and previous client details to ensure accuracy and to minimize risk of fraud
    • Handle Audit queries
    • To act as alternative disbursement/ payment officer
    • Maintenance of Assets register calculation of depreciation and preparation of Assets movement schedule.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ degree in a business related field which include Finance and Commerce.
    • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA or ACCA.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in the financial industry.

    Investments Specialist

    Job Summary

    The Investments Specialist is responsible for the management of treasury and investment operations through timely investment of funds, compliance with approved mandates and reporting to management and Board Committee.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implement strategies and initiatives to enhance investment performance relative to the risk and the investment processes. 
    • Understand the financial models to forecast/test the robustness of the investment strategy.
    • Ensure full compliance with and keep abreast of all relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines provided by the Risk and Compliance team including investor disclosures, privacy laws, anti-money laundering requirements, anti-fraud measures etc.
    • Research and propose for implementation strategies and initiatives to enhance investment performance relative to the risk and the investment process (es). 
    • In liaison with Fund Managers ensure compliance with the approved portfolio mandates and enhancement of investment returns.
    • Collect and analyse financial information and use the data to build financial models and projections to explore future scenarios of target products and macroeconomics.
    • Quarterly review of Tactical Asset Allocations (TAAs) and or Tactical Decisions 
    • Bi-Annual review of the Strategic Asset Allocations (SAAs) for all Portfolios
    • Periodical asset and securities review to keep abreast of industry changes and advise management accordingly.
    • Treasury management
    • Monitor and ensure timely transfer of funds from collection accounts to respective custody accounts as per approved process.
    • Own and follow through execution of the Asset Liability Matching (ALM) actions.
    • Liaise with Fund Managers to ensure timely and compliant investment of funds,
    • Monitor portfolios adhere to all credit limits outlined.
    • Monitor any credit risk assumed is in line with risk appetites. 
    • Monitor overall return for any assumed credit risk is rewarded adequately. 
    • Liaise with Fund Managers and Research Analyst to gain a better understanding of market conditions, and domestic and global developments that may impact portfolio investments.
    • Participate in and support the sales and development team/ actuarial teams and new product development initiatives.
    • Accurate and timely preparation of Investment Management Report for EXCO and Board Investment Committee,
    • Continuously meet and align the investment strategy with the Fund managers,
    • Convenor of Management Investment Committee
    • Work closely with all relevant internal stakeholders. 
    • Participate in budgeting process and continuous pro-active monitoring of performance against budget.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ degree in a business related field which include Finance and Commerce.
    • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA or ACCA, 
    • Investment related certification CFA, CISI, ICIFA

    Experience

    • At least 5 years’ experience in the financial industry with focus on investments.

    Competencies

    • Accounting knowledge
    • Knowledge of various investments concepts such as risk management and compliance, products, asset classes, alternative investments.
    • Familiarity with working of a Life insurance business.
    • Understanding and appreciation of fiduciary responsibility, personal integrity and professionalism.
    • Knowledge of accounting systems
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements
    • Risk Awareness
    • Knowledge in treasury cycle management
    • Financial modelling skills
    • Knowledge of capital markets
    • Cash flow accounting
