Responsibilities
Design research & user insights:
- Guide design research efforts, employing qualitative and quantitative methods such as user interviews, field observations, surveys, and usability testing
- Analyze and synthesize research data to uncover user needs, pain points, and opportunities for innovation
Design thinking & innovation:
- Facilitate design thinking workshops and ideation sessions to foster creativity and problem-solving
- Guide teams through an iterative design process from discovery to delivery, ensuring continuous learning and improvement
- Prototype and test new ideas rapidly, using both low-fidelity and high-fidelity methods
Product & service design:
- Collaborate with multiple teams to develop user-centered product, service, and process concepts
- Create journey maps, personas, wireframes, and mockups to visualize and communicate design ideas
- Ensure that all touchpoints in the user experience reflect the core principles of human-centered design
Stakeholder engagement & collaboration:
- Collaborate with multiple teams in the organization to translate user insights into actionable design solutions
- Present findings, design concepts, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams to influence decision-making
- Promote a user-first approach in all projects across departments

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-computer interaction (HCI), Anthropology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in human-centered design, user experience design, or service design
- Experience leading user research and translating insights into successful product and service design
- Proficiency in design research methods, user testing, and usability evaluation
- Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, and InVision.
- Experience communicating with varied audiences, including translating complex research findings into clear, actionable insights

User research strategy & execution:
- Design and implement comprehensive user research that aligns with Tupande’s product and service goals. Also, ensure research insights are translated into actionable recommendations and integrated into product design, service delivery, and strategic planning
- Oversee the design and execution of qualitative and quantitative research projects, including user interviews, surveys, usability testing, field research, and ethnographic studies
Human-centered design leadership:
- Lead the team in applying design thinking methodologies to address complex challenges, ensuring that user needs lead decision-making
- Guide the brainstorming, prototyping, and iteration of design solutions, ensuring that they are tested and validated with users
- Champion the importance of human-centered design as a strategic approach across all levels of the organization, ensuring it is embedded in Tupande’s culture.
- Engage with leadership and cross-functional teams to promote a shared understanding of HCD principles, emphasizing the importance of creating impactful user-centered solutions across the entire organization.
Team leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and support the user research and HCD team, fostering a collaborative work environment while fostering their professional growth
Collaboration:
- Work with the global HCD lead to ensure the HCD strategy and processes are following best practice
- Be an important liaison between the User Research & HCD team and other departments, ensuring agreement on project goals and timelines
Project management, Reporting, and Process Improvement:
- Manage multiple research and design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, high-quality data collection and analysis, and actionable outcomes
- Present recommendations to Tupande and OAF leadership and stakeholders, influencing decision-making at all levels of the organization
- Improve research and design processes, ensuring they are efficient, scalable, and aligned with Tupande’s goals

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-computer interaction, Anthropology, or a related field.
- At least 4+ years of experience in user research, human-centered design, or related fields, with demonstrated experience leading teams and managing research projects
- Expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including user interviews, surveys, usability testing, and data analysis
- Experience in managing teams of researchers and designers
- Proficiency in design thinking methodologies and tools with experience leading cross-functional teams through the design process
- Experience communicating with varied audiences, including translating complex research findings into clear, actionable insights

Team management
- Lead the department’s Field and Data Coordinators to ensure the timely and accurate completion of objectives.
- Oversee the development of talent within the team through training, meetings, and review sessions.
- Conduct field visits to verify project execution and ensure client interactions are respectful.
- Conduct in-field supervision of key data collection activities to maintain "perfect" quality standards.
Research design and data management
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify research objectives and design survey tools for annual impact analysis and strategic queries.
- Maintain data quality standards to ensure accuracy in impact evaluations and strategic decisions.
- Manage tasks such as codebook creation, data cleaning, regression analysis, and survey corrections.
- Supervise data collection processes to ensure quality control and adherence to standards. Identify weaknesses in data collection tools and processes, implementing improvements.
- Conduct data analysis using statistical software (e.g., Stata) and present findings to stakeholders.
Other tasks:
- Lead the development of systems and processes for department projects, including creating frameworks and drafting procedures for activities.
- Draft project and annual budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure that projects stay within budget

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in statistics, economics, development studies, monitoring & evaluation, project management, or other relevant fields with a foundation in quantitative and qualitative research.
- At least 2 years of experience in in monitoring, evaluation and learning practices, including data collection and analysis, preferably in rural settings
- Knowledge of electronic data collection platforms (e.g., ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare) and statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
- Experience with project planning, management, and execution, with experience in field management
