    Urban Resilience Planner

    Qualifications/special skills

    Academic Qualifications:

    1. University degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Rural development, Agricultural science, Social Studies or related field that is relevant in sustainable urban development is required.

    Work Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years experience dealing with sustainable urban development and climate change resilience. Relevant experience in architecture, planning and urban designing of flood mitigation measures and resilience infrastructure, public and social facilities such as public/green spaces, sustainable housing model, infrastructure and community development is required.
    • Working experience in humanitarian setting on spatial planning and disaster management as well as hosting workshops/meetings in Kakuma-Kalobeyei, Kenya, with local stakeholders is an added advantage.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this consultancy, fluency in English, both verbal and written, is required.
    • Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.
    • Basic knowledge of Swahili is an asset.

    • Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).
    • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Preferred areas of studies:

    • Social studies, Human Rights Law, Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Architecture, Geography or related field of studies.

    Work Experience

    • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    • Experience in developing technical and normative outputs in Planning, Finance, and Economy is required.
    • Experience in developing guidelines and documents of social inclusion and human rights in urban planning policy is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

    Sdg Cities Technical Officer

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Under the supervision of the Inter-Regional Adviser, Programme Development Branch, the consultant will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

    • The consultant will coordinate the establishment of country projects and 1 regional SDG Cities support hub.
    • Provide technical support of the SDG Cities Silver Certificate process, including guidance of SDG Cities process, urban sustainable advice among others.
    • Provide strategic planning and technical advice on the SDG Cities Gold Certificate process.
    • Provide capacity development and project investment advice to support piloting activities for Platinum Certificate and Diamond Certificate process.
    • Provide technical advice in the organization of SDG Cities events, including special events at World Urban Forum 12 and during the World Cities Day.
    • Develop concept notes, agendas and data base list of speakers for UN-Habitat Assembly’s SDG Cities’ side events and round tables and follow up the results after the Assembly.
    • Conduct methodology research for the cooperation between Shanghai Award, Shanghai Index, Shanghai Manual and SDG Cities.
    • Pilot the Shanghai methodology research and monitor the progress.
    • Develop 4 capacity development e-learning courses on SDG Cities.
    • Develop and support in-person training or/and webinars on SDG Cities.
    • Develop the water management tool and upgrade other diagnostic tools.
    • Pilot the diagnostic assessment tool digital platform and update the features of the platform.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A Bachelor’s degree in information management, business analysis, project management, international development or similar is required.
    • A minimum of 2 years experience in database management, data management, events organization, social innovation and youth mobilization is required.

    Land and Housing Finance Consultant

    RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONSULTANT
    Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the Land, Housing and Shelter Section, the consultant will carry out the following tasks:

    • Researches, analyzes and presents information related to land finance and management and housing finance gathered from diverse sources.
    • Develop guidelines and policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
    • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
    • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
    • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
    • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field related to land or urban studies, urban planning, architecture, social, environmental or political sciences, or other urban development-oriented studies with focus on land and housing issues is required.
    • 5 years of experience in a relevant field related to land finance, land management, and housing finance is required.

    Languages

    1. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable.
