    Clinical Nurse, Radiology

    Responsibilities:

    • Carry out patient assessment and re-assessment for both adult and paediatric patients.
    • Provide nursing care as per approved policies and procedures to meet patient care needs.
    • Carry out hemodynamic monitoring for Paediatric and adult patients undergoing interventional procedures
    • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching
    • Administer medication and contrast media safely to both adult and pediatric patients, monitor patient responses to medication and promptly report adverse reactions.
    • Carry out pre and post procedure care for all patients undergoing interventional procedures and sedation.
    • Prepare patients for certain radiological examinations such as micturating cystourethrogram.
    • Setting up for procedures in fluoroscopy room and assist the radiologist in various interventional procedures in the unit.
    • Maintain adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy and suctioning during sedation.
    • Ensuring that patients who have undergone procedures under anesthesia or sedation are closely observed until they recover from the effects or handed over to the nursing staff in the ward.
    • Be able to recognize a patient in a pre- arrest or arrest states, and to initiate Basic Life Support
    • Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the  manager, team leader or physician
    • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner
    • Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga Khan University Hospital Guidelines on waste management.
    • Prepare oral gastrografin for CT Abdomen and instruct patients on the frequency of taking the contrast.
    • Coordinating booking incases that require nursing attention to ensure that the nursing care is not interfered with.
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
    • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock drugs and consumables

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN /BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in nursing
    • Demonstrate Leadership and management skills

    Project Coordinator - Mental Health Survey, IHD Office

    Job Summary

    The Ministry of Health in partnership with Aga Khan University and other partners propose to conduct a national baseline mental health survey to estimate the prevalence and to determine the factors associated with mental illnesses in Kenya. The specific objectives are:

    • To determine the prevalence of mental illnesses in Kenya
    • To identify the determinants of mental illnesses in Kenya
    • To establish the mental health treatment gap

    The findings of this baseline survey will be important in informing mental health planning, policies, and interventions in Kenya.

    We seek a highly skilled and motivated professional to manage this work programme. The incumbent will coordinate all the activities by different internal and external parties. They will take the lead in coordinating all the activities, including policy engagement, and technical support to implement and ensure high-quality knowledge in action products. They will be the contact person for all stakeholders interested in this programme. 

    Responsibilities

    • Establish timelines for the different activities.
    • Mobilize relevant resources including personnel.
    • Ensure that other research activities are synchronized.
    • Support stakeholder coordinate in the implementation of the survey.
    • Support the project P.I and survey team in developing research proposals, acquiring ethics approval, and supervising data collection, management, analysis and dissemination.
    • Compile short reports on project progress. 
    • Identify and document lessons learned and best practices for decision making by leadership.
    • Document evidence of processes and activities through photography and videography, interviews, and testimonials in collaboration with Communications officer.
    • Ensure that narrative progress reports are prepared and submitted in time to the funder.
    • Contribute to the development of technical materials and briefs.
    • Through virtual and physical meetings provide technical support to implementing partners.
    • In collaboration with the communications coordinator, develop advocacy and awareness materials.
    • Conduct media campaigns.

    Requirements

    • A master’s degree in Mental Health, Epidemiology, Public Health, Global Health or allied professions
    • Training in research methodologies will be desirable.

    Relevant Experience

    • At least 2 years’ experience coordinating large scale community-based projects.
    • Relevant experience in working with Governments and Non-Governmental Organizations.
    • Flexible – able to work extra hours when needed.
    • Able to work with communities and respect their cultural setups.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
    • Be computer-literate with proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office applications and data management procedures: data cleaning, manipulation, summarization, tables, listings, graphics and report generation.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise teams in multiple sites.

    Job Summary

    The Research Assistant will assist in overall implementation of study activities including recruiting study participants, support with community engagement activities, data collection activities and data management.

    Responsibilities

    Research Assistant AKILI, IHD Office

    Job Summary

    The Research Assistant will contribute to collaborative research that transforms people’s lives through new scientific findings by collecting quality data and biological samples for the AKILI study while adhering to the standard operating procedures and ethical regulations. AKILI is a study on genetic characterization of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the Kenyan and South African populations.

    Responsibilities

    • Share information, education and support related to the AKILI study to families or guardians of potential eligible research participants.
    • Assist in triaging or offering any nursing care as may be requested of you when mobilizing participants at the outpatient clinics of the Aga Khan University Hospital.
    • Participate in conducting the informed consenting process for the AKILI study.
    • Participate in the screening and identification eligible participants among children and adolescents at the hospitals, schools or the community.
    • Participate in the collection of sociodemographic and phenotypic data using research electronic data capture software.
    • Spearhead and participate in neurocognitive and/or psychiatric assessments of all study participants such as KSADS and SNAP-IV.
    • Participate in preparing proper, accurate and timely documentation of study-related activities.
    • Participate in sensitization and/or training of teachers, community health promoters and any other stakeholders AKILI will engage. This will entail active involvement in preparing training materials on ADHD and the different neurocognitive and/or psychiatric assessments.
    • Participate in ensuring data completeness and safety by working with other team members to crosscheck data against the AKILI’s enrolment checklist and ensuring that data has been uploaded to server before leaving the field/site of participant enrolment as highlighted in AKILI’s standard operating procedures and protocol.
    • Ensure all participants receive their gifts, reimbursements and snacks as outlined in the protocol; and present all proofs of payment (payment and registration forms and receipts) for accounting.
    • Participate in accounting for field expenditure as will be guided.
    • Ensure proper use, storage and handing-over of all filed items assigned to you to minimize the risk of damage and to ensure their safety.
    • Foster good working relationships with all stakeholders including all participants and their parents as well as the personnel in the different institutions we will engage – at the different hospitals, at schools and in the community.
    • Be willing to participate in the continuous medical education (CME) activities in the mental/neurological healthcare.

    Requirements

    • A minimum of Diploma in Psychology.
    • Research background will be desirable.

    Relevant Experience.

    Clinical Nurse, Medical Surgical Units

    Responsibilities:

    • Complete head to toe assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs
    • Develop written care plans based on patients’ needs, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions
    • Carry out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs, neurological and fluid status; labs and radiological evaluations

    • Care for equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of nonfunctional equipment to the nurse manager
    • Follow discharge procedure of assigned patients according to hospital protocol, and ensure follow up appointments are made
    • Participate in unit based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks

    Requirements:

    • RN from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of current practices in Medical-Surgical nursing
