    Pilot Intern

    MAIN JOB PURPOSE

    • The Pilot Intern will assist the AMREF Flying Doctors' operations team with various flying and ground duties. This role provides comprehensive exposure to commercial aviation, equipping the intern with essential skills and knowledge.
    • The intern will be involved in pre-flight preparations, in-flight operations , and post flight procedures, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency. By working closely with experienced pilots, the intern will gain valuable insights, building a strong foundation for a career in aviation with a focus on professionalism, safety and excellence.

     NOTE:    AMREF Flying Doctors is not an Aviation Training Organization (ATO). 

    Job Description

    • Prepare flight planning for all flights allocated promptly.
    • Participate in the planning and execution of company flights in accordance to the company policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations.
    • Carry out duties concerning flights in accordance with company Standards Operating Procedures (SOPs) as allocated and guided by the Captain
    • Assist the Chief Pilots’ office in matters related to flight operations including; flight evacuations planning and execution in the areas of operation.
    • Assist in performing functional checks or maintenance test flights whenever required.
    • Assist the medical crew during medical evacuations as deemed necessary.
    • Closely work with the Flight Operations and assist with office work as directed.
    • Assist the captain in communicating with the Air Traffic Controller during flight take-off and landings.
    • Communicating with the crew on board and the flight operations regularly during the flight.
    • Assist the medical team with loading and offloading the patient to ensure that flight missions are conducted safely
    • Support with librarian services and maintain flight crew records/documents in accordance to company procedures
    • Responsibility over stationary for the section.
    • Assist the Chief Pilot with work related tasks as may be assigned
    • Perform any other duties

    Qualifications

    • KCSE Grade certificate or an equivalent.
    • Hold a Kenyan Commercial Pilots License (CPL) with current instrument rating.
    • Multi-Engine Rating added advantage
    • Have a minimum of 300 hours of flying time
    • Successfully passed Performance A and Gas turbine papers
    • Hold a class 1 medical certificate
    • Valid Passport required - must have 6 months’ validity by internship end date
    • Good technical knowledge of flight including air navigation, meteorology flying directives, aircraft operating procedures and  mission tactics.
    • Knowledge of local airstrips
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required

    PC12 Captain

    MAIN JOB PURPOSE

    • Perform as the Flight Commander of AMREF Flying Doctors aircraft to ensure effective and efficient completion of company flights. 
    • Be responsible for operating AMREF Flying Doctors aircrafts for aero-medical mission flights or any other company flights with the highest safety standards in accordance with AMREF Flying Doctors operations manuals while upholding Kenya Civil Aviation Authority regulations and air rules in each country in which it operates.

    Job Description

    • Perform as flight crew and team leader on AMREF Flying Doctors flights which include aero-medical missions, hospital, humanitarian and company flights; and any other approved flights to the highest of safety standards; 
    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of company Operations Manuals; the relevant parts of the KCARS, the Kenyan AIP and other KCAA promulgated Circulars, Directives and Notices; including familiarity with international air legislation, best aviation practices and standards. 
    • Ensuring the flights comply with all laws, rules and regulations of authorities of each country in which it operates; 
    • Complete statutory and company documentations associated with a flight. 
    • Ensure sound knowledge and implementation of safety, security and emergency standards in all aircraft operations. 
    • Function in a team environment with flight mission crew and other staff and assist with passenger/ patient care where practical. 
    • Be a team player and leader while performing company flight missions.
    • Performing functional checks or maintenance test flights when required. 
    • Assist in matters related to flight operations including flight planning in the areas of operation. 
    • Maintain familiarity with relevant Kenya air laws and International air legislation and agreed aviation practices and procedures. 
    • Train and coach junior pilots in specific areas of experience. 
    • Provide assistance to the medical crew during medical interventions as necessary 
    • Assist the Chief Pilot’s office in matters related to flight operations including safety and quality assurance activities. 
    • Cultivate and uphold company values and positively promote the public profile of the company
    • Attend to any other secondary work-related duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications

    • The ideal candidate will be a Kenyan citizen holding a valid Kenya Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) with a multi-engine instrument rating. 
    • S/he must have a minimum of 3000 hours; 1000 hours of which must be in command and with 250 hours in command on a multi-crew turbine powered aircraft. 
    • Experience in aviation operations management systems and safety or quality system will be an added benefit. 
    • Possess a good understanding of Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations (KCARS); 
    • Have a good flight safety record and practical knowledge with planning and dispatch systems in an ad-hoc type commercial operation. 
    • Have experience in Eastern Africa, flying into remote airstrips and understanding of local terrain and seasonal weather
