    Administrative Assistant

    Main purpose of the job

    The Administration Assistant will provide high level, proactive, efficient, effective and confidential service in the support of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Students Affairs (DVC-ASA).

    Secretarial/Administrative support

    • Provide secretarial support to the DVC -ASA including management, making travel arrangements, Telephone enquiries, drafting correspondence, managing filing systems, version control of policies, contacts and record keeping
    • Professional engaged in the work of AmIU and its continuing priorities through continuing understanding of the business context
    • Examine material/correspondence for the DVC ASA and co-ordinate responses, acting as required and prioritizing and anticipating action required and preparing routine responses
    • Ensure DVC ASA is appropriately briefed for internal and external engagements
    • Act as secretary to the DVC ASA committee meetings (internal and external) working with the Chair to proactively provide timely agenda and minutes and appropriate follow up
    • Utilize the AmIU information management systems, to provide reports as appropriate, including assisting with reports and data in relation to finance and student records
    • To collate and analyse data, including conducting internal and sectorwide research, supported with appropriate data analysis that provides the DVC with accurate and meaningful information.

    Customer/Teamwork 

    • To be the first point of contact for the DVC ASA’s office
    • Manage and develop the DVC ASA’s high level external communications with local, national and internal stakeholders
    • Manage the internal communication from the DVC ASA’s office
    • Work with relevant AmIU offices in managing and organizing VIP visits, including lectures, graduation and liaising with marketing and communication as appropriate
    • Arrange and provide hospitality for visitors

    Planning and Organisation 

    • Manage the day to day functioning of the DVC ASA’s office

    Education & Professional Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social sciences, health or related field in health science.

    Experience

    • At least three (3) years’ experience in supporting or working at Senior administrative roles. University experience is an added advantage
    • Proficiency in Microsoft office and adequate knowledge of databases

    Director of Research and Extension

    MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

    The Director of Research and Extension will be responsible for promoting and coordinating research, knowledge transfer, and community engagement within the University. The role holder will establish and maintain recognition of the University as a centre of excellence in research, knowledge transfer and
    community engagement, while representing an external face of the University for networks within relevant business sectors, community organisations, industry and Primary Health Care Sector. The incumbent will also make a significant contribution to the strategy for the postgraduate taught programmes in the
    University.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Build capacity in research for staff, students and PHC workers:
    • Ensure that research is being conducted and translated to policy and practice:
    • Grow income from research:
    • Institutionalize extension in university programs including enhancing experiential learning by
    • connecting Amref University students to field projects as defined in their reformed curricula
    • Formulate University responses to policy issues around research, represent the organization in research forums; mainstream research in community engagement.
    • Ensure that strategic cross-cutting issues are operationalized in research and Research, extension and business development are linked to Amref Health Africa programs
    • Achieve cornerstones for the success of research in the university:

    Key Competencies of the Research Director and Extension

    • Have earned academic credentials of at PhD level
    • At least 10 years’ experience in institutional research
    • Understands Primary Health Care environment in Africa
    • Experience in research, especially health related and be a respected leader in research in Africa and globally
    • Proven ability to raise funds for research
    • Competence in managing research partnerships
    • Experienced in networking, donor management and developing fundable grant proposals
    • Ability to work across cultures
    • A broad network and evidence of having established meaningful external stakeholder relationships across government and industry.

    Advancement Officer

    MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

    The primary purpose of this position is to increase the University’s capacity to fulfil its educational mission through strategic donor relations and partnerships that result in new funds and sources of funds. The Advancement Officer is accountable to the Vice Chancellor for executing fundraising strategy and overseeing alumni relations. The primary accountability of this position is to implement fundraising strategies to raise funds from individuals, the private and voluntary/non-profit sectors. Primary responsibilities include prospect identification, evaluation, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate, foundation and individual donors. This role works closely with the Amref Health Africa Partnerships, Fundraising and Communications offices to establish funding relationships and secure resources that support the school’s mission and long-term strategic goals.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain a very good working knowledge of AmIU activities, priorities, and needs in both teaching, research, and student success.
    • Propose fundraising strategies to the Vice Chancellor for priority prospects that may include corporations, foundations, individuals, and alumni.
    • Plan, develop, and evaluate a strategy for an effective Annual Fund program in coordination with the Alumni and Vice Chancellor office.
    • The identification of prospects from among alumni, corporations, foundations, and other individuals; the evaluation and prioritization of prospects; clearance to approach prospects, where necessary; and the engagement of prospects in the mission and programs of AmIU.
    • The development of committed donor relationships among cultivated prospects; administration of donor agreements and pledges as necessary and documentation of same.
    • The development and execution of donor stewardship plans.
    • Elicit the voluntary commitment of members of AmIU faculty, staff, students, and alumni in assisting with fundraising activities.
    • Create fundraising materials suitable for presentation to prospective donors, including obtaining technical content from staff and faculty as necessary and ensuring materials are complementary to AmIU visual identity and brand.
    • Propose, recommend, and/or advise on project or program ideas that are both tailored to the specific interests of corporations, foundations, individuals, and associations and to AmIU mission.
    • Recommend and manage agreed stewardship plans and appropriate recognition of gifts for select major donors.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Communication or related field;
    • Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Public Relations, Communication or related field.

    Experience

    • Over five (5) years’ relevant experience with over five (5) years in a management role.
    • Proven experience with fundraising and partnership management.
    • Understanding of university fundraising
    • Familiarity with fundraising in the higher education sector and university administration

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, including campaign experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to implement fundraising principles to raise significant funds from
    • individuals, corporations, and foundations and to steward and recognize donors.
    • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office Skills, including Excel.
    • Demonstrated Alumni Relations experience or equivalent.
    • Excellent communications skills in writing, presentations, and conversation.
