    Sonographer - 2 Positions

    Vacancy: CGHR/372/08/23

    Job specification:

    The incumbent, working with study and MOH teams, will be responsible for performing ultrasound scans, training, and mentoring frontline health providers to perform obstetric ultrasound for the FAMLI study and other studies in the Pregnancy Surveillance platform. This will entail performing scans and archiving images for the Pregnancy Surveillance studies and assisting the ministry of health staff to perform routine scans.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    •  Performing obstetric ultrasound scans for pregnant women participating in the FAMLI ultrasound study and other studies on the Pregnancy Surveillance platform
    •  Conducting assigned study duties per the study protocol.
    •  Assisting ministry of health staff to perform ultrasound for non-study participants.
    •  Training and mentoring health care providers (nurses, clinical officers) on obstetric ultrasound.
    •  Explaining sonographic procedures to patients, answering questions, preparing patients by applying the gel to the skin, and positioning the patients on the table.
    •  Selecting and examining images, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determining if the scope of the exam should be extended, based on preliminary findings.
    •  Presenting the sonograms and preliminary findings to the physicians
    •  Completing the appropriate documentation and maintaining patients' histories and medical records
    •  Archiving ultrasound images using picture archiving and communications system software
    •  Maintaining and cleaning the sonographic equipment
    •  Perform Quality Control review on ultrasound images for studies on Pregnancy
    • Surveillance platform.

    Person specification:

    •  Be a holder of diploma in radiography with at least two years’ experience in obstetric sonography.
    •  Be registered and licensed by the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
    •  Have strong technical, communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.

    Skills & Abilities

    •  Excellent skills in obstetric ultrasound
    •  Experience with ultrasound picture archiving and communication software
    •  Experience working with Ministry of Health staff.
    •  Previous experience in clinical studies is an added advantage.
    •  Ability to use mobile applications and the Microsoft office suite.
    •  Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and attention to detail.

    Terms of employment
    This is a one-year contract, renewable subject to availability of funds, with a probation period for the first 3 months. Salary is as per the stated KEMRI scale.

    Registered Nurse - 2 Positions

    Vacancy: CGHR/371/08/23

    Job specification:

    The incumbent will be responsible for providing nursing care to study participants, conducting antenatal, perinatal and post-natal care to mother and follow up for mother and baby pair. He/she will participate in consenting study participants, taking histories, vital signs, physical examination, anthropometrics, assist in conducting deliveries and management of patients. Coordinate referral of pregnant women, enrolment and follow-ups. Collect high quality data for the study participants and (with training) conduct simple ultrasound procedures on pregnant mothers.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  Provides basic triage to study participants.
    •  Consenting, enrolment and follow-up of study participants
    •  Data collection from study participants.
    •  (With training) perform simple ultrasound procedures on study participants during ANC visits.
    •  Participate in antenatal, perinatal, and post-natal care of study participants.
    •  Diagnose danger signs of pregnancy and do appropriate referral.
    •  Assist with conduct of rapid HIV testing to study participants with pre and post-test counselling.
    •  Maintain strict confidentiality and participants’ privacy.

    •  Ensures high quality accurate data collection and recording of confidential clinical data.
    •  Advice the study participants on availability of referral services.

    Data Manager - 1 Positions

    Vacancy: CGHR/370/08/23

    Job specification:

    Provide statistical and data analysis and management support for ongoing studies within the Family Health Unit. The successful candidate will work with the Statistical team, Data Management team, Study Coordinators, and Principal Investigators to plan for data analysis, set up analytical datasets, assist junior staff in conducting analysis using appropriate tools and techniques, guide data validation and cleaning processes, and finally analyse the data.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the development of study analysis plans and data management plans.
    • Guide database development for study data management.
    • Oversee data entry, conduct routine data checks, resolve queries, and generate reports.
    • Liaise with trial and other data managers and programmers regarding data quality and missing data, verify data accuracy and validity.
    • Schedule and prepare progress reports and/or analyses for independent Data Monitoring Committees, Steering Committees, and publications.
    • Actively scrutinize the data for discrepancies, errors, and missing data to verify accuracy and validity.
    • Report and liaise with study investigators, data clerks, data managers, and programmers on data quality and error resolution as per the study protocol.
    • Discuss and interpret results with colleagues and collaborators in the trials/studies.
    • Ensure deadlines and project milestones related to data and analyses are met, coordinating with other staff members and external collaborators as necessary.
    • Support the production of summary tables and graphics for interim and final analyses.

    Person specification:

    •  Be a holder of a bachelor degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or any related field from a recognized university.
    •  Have at least one (1) year experience in data processing, management, and analysis in a health/medical research setting.
    •  Have excellent working knowledge and experience with at least one statistical package for data manipulation and analysis (STATA, SPSS, SAS, R) and one database management software (SQL Server, MS Access).
    •  Be proficient in statistical and data management procedures, including data cleaning, manipulation, summaries, tables, listings, graphics, and inferential statistical output, as well as report generation.

    Data Manager

    Vacancy: CGHR/369/08/23

    Job specification

    •  Collaborate with Division of Health Informatics-MOH, NMCP, and AMREF Health Africa data architects and software engineers to ensure that managed services and integration solutions are reliable, scalable, flexible, and low of low cost in maintenance.
    •  Provide technical support to AMREF Health Africa on integration of M-Jali platform into DHIS2.
    •  Gather functional and system requirements and document the relevant data sources for integration.
    •  Develop data programs to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from the project data system into DHIS2, ensuring the architecture and development follow best practices and are compliant with the Kenya’s data laws and regulations.
    •  Troubleshoot and document interoperability issues and their probable causes. Identify root/cause, test, and implement solutions including, but not limited to, updating and reprocessing transactions as appropriate.
    •  Make recommendations, develop processes, access resources, and implement other mechanisms that will ensure quality, integrity, and security of data.
    •  Develop reports and dashboards within DHIS2 in collaboration with the NMCP Subject Matter
    • Experts (SME) to support with analysis of malaria surveillance data. Provide technical support for the integration of Laboratory QA system with the KHIS in collaboration with NMCP, Division of Health Informatics and MOH ICT.
    •  Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the project investigator.

    Person specification

    •  Be a holder of a bachelor degree in computer science or information Technology or equivalent/ related field
    •  Have at least one year experience collecting, analyzing, integrating, and evaluating data systems with exposure to a high volume of simultaneous tasks.
    •  Be proficient in developing data integration systems and familiarity with the Kenya data integration and interoperability standards.
    •  Be proficient in DHIS2 systems design and management.
    •  Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
    •  Be able to analyze, understand, and define customer requirements and adapt to evolving requirements and work effectively on a team toward a common goal.
