    Senior Lecturer - Grade AC 13 - Sports Science/Recreation and Sports Management

    LU/AC/SHDS/SS/EA/NOV./14/2024

    Reports to: The COD.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervise and mentor both students and staff in their area of specialization/expertise;
    • Lead research/innovation teams in area of specialization/expertise;
    • Provide strategic leadership in development of academic programmes and research activities in their area of specialization/expertise within the department;
    • Be a member of the departmental and School academic board to provide leadership in their area of specialization/expertise;
    • Departmental development: Teach and train in their area of specialization/expertise at the appropriate level;
    • University development: Mentor and develop teaching programmes and skills in their area of specialization/expertise;
    • The review and development of programmes in accordance with the CUE requirements and CBC/CBET compliance at both the School and Department level, as well as responding to issues raised by the regulatory body, through the Chairperson of the Department and School Dean;
    • Inputting grades into an online grade management system;
    • Research and innovation, solicit funding and develop research programmes and teams in their area of specialization/expertise;
    • Networking: Create networks with local, regional and international organizations in their area of specialization/expertise;
    • Academic publishing: conduct scholarly and academic publishing;
    • Input into the department budget development in their area of specialization/expertise for departmental development;
    • Identify and develop research/innovation products for income generation in their area of specialization;
    • Create linkages and partnerships;
    • Develop research and academic programmes;
    • Management and administration of examinations and assessments;
    • Offer career guidance and mentorship;
    • Perform any other related duty assigned from time to time; and
    • Any other duty as may be assigned by the COD.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT:

    For appointment to this position, a candidate MUST have:

    • An earned Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent degree in the specified specialization or related field from an accredited and recognized university; and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
    • b. A Master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university (in special cases) with at least three (3) years teaching experience at the university level or in a research institute or in industry; and
    • At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at the university level as a Lecturer or six (6) years Research/industry experience;
    • A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
    • Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent;
    • Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
    • Ability to utilize Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) systems;
    • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution of the Kenya 2010.

    Deputy Registrar (AHC) Grade AD 14 - Human Resources with IHRM and CHRP (K).

    Reports to: The Registrar Administration and Human Capital.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Deputize the Registrar (Administration and Human Capital);
    • Responsible for staff matters in the department;
    • Responsible for a budget plan for the department;
    • Responsible for the implementation of university policies and procedures in the division;
    • Ensure effective and efficient management of various functions of the department;
    • Formulating and reviewing administrative service policies and procedures;
    • Spearheading service delivery initiatives;
    • Overseeing the provision of security and office services;
    • Directing general maintenance;
    • Facilitating meetings, conferences, and other special events;
    • Managing and controlling office accommodation;
    • Overseeing coordination of disaster management and emergency response activities;
    • Coordinating preparation of work plans, budgets, and setting of performance targets;
    • Coordinating implementation of service delivery initiatives;
    • Planning and coordinating office accommodation;
    • Processing travel clearance;
    • Coaching, mentoring, and developing staff; and

    ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    For appointment to this position, a candidate MUST have:

    • Master’s Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration or Human Resources Management or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution;
    • Must be registered and in good standing with the Institute of Human Resource; Management Kenya (IHRM) and a Certified Human Resource Practitioner CHRP (K);
    • Attendance of a senior management or other professional course lasting for more than four weeks will be an added advantage Computer literacy;
    • Demonstrate outstanding qualities of leadership, coordination and organization at the senior management level; and
    • Exemplary work performance

    EXPERIENCE:

    • The candidate MUST have had at least six (6) years’ experience in administration, three (3) years of which MUST have served as a Senior Assistant Registrar.
