    Unit Manager (Industrial Area Branch)

    Key Responsibilities:

    • To sell the company’s products in line with the product strategy and the set revenue budgets per product with the support and guidance of Branch Manager, the Regional Business Development Manager and Head of Branches.
    • To provide within the Branch such after sales services in respect of the insurance contracts as may be required from time to time.
    • Understand the region and implement the market development strategy guided by the Branch manager and the Regional Business Development Manager.
    • To achieve all the set annual revenue budgets, manpower growth (Agents) and the expense control objectives for the Unit office under the supervision and guidance of the Branch Manager and the Regional Business Development Manager.
    • To recruit, select, train, motivate, supervise, develop and manage the agents under your unit as per the guidelines provided by the Head of Branches.
    • To monitor the overall performance of Agents under your unit and make appropriate well- considered recommendations.
    • To prepare and submit the Unit production reports to the Branch Manager on a weekly basis.
    • To build and maintain good public relations with policy owners, business community, professionals and government agencies within the Branch territory under the guidance of the Branch Manager and the Regional Business Development Manager.
    • To be the liaison and communication link between the Unit and the Branch Office through timely and accurate dispatch of information through memoranda, telephone calls, fax, E-mail etc and to observe deadlines at all times. Interpret company policies and procedures to office personnel, Agents and customers.
    • To ensure that all agents operating within the Unit are properly licensed as required by the laws of Kenya.
    • To perform any other ad hoc duties and added on tasks as directed by the Company.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Build and maintain a sales force for the Unit in accordance with company’s manpower growth and development plan.
    • Ensure the Unit revenue budgets and the appropriate product mix ratios are achieved as per the company’s set objectives. 
    • Manage and direct a sufficient Agents to ensure smooth running of the Unit.
    • Help agents identify and develop appropriate markets in line with the market development strategy for the Branches Business Unit, under the guidance of the Branch Manager and the Regional Business Development Manager.
    • Ensure that agents are professionally trained to sell and service the company’s products as per the company’s training guidelines.
    • Assist Agents in setting and achieving progressive performance goals.
    • Implement the training and development guidelines for Agents under the Unit in accordance with the company’s established business plans.
    • Ensure maximum utilization and accountability of all available company resources in all areas of management, Unit administration, development, training and customer service.
    • Ensure that your own personal production is at sufficient levels (leading by example)
    • Ensure that retention level of the unit is meeting the Company’s standards as set out from time to time by the Company.

    Job Specifications:

    Academic /Professional Qualification

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field 
    • Progress in Diploma in Insurance/CIM

    Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in Business Development in General Insurance.

    Legal Officer

    Overall Responsibility:

    Reporting to the Legal Manager, the Legal Officer shall assist in the planning and execution of effective and efficient operational performance of the Legal Section in accordance with the company’s policies and practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Verification of cover on new claims and ensuring that policy conditions have been complied with and adequate reserves made.
    • Ensuring that files are properly documented.
    • Communication with insureds to get relevant claim documentation and giving guidance on Court attendance.
    • Appointment of advocates, via both soft copy and hard copy correspondences, to handle company matters within three (days) of receipt of summons and maintenance of a register for such appointments.
    • Liaising with external advocates and insureds two (2) weeks prior to the court date to ensure that witnesses are availed during hearings and proper witness statements and documentation availed to external advocates at the point of filing defences.
    • Giving well researched opinions on the likely outcome of matters in court and on settlement parameters in case of negotiations.
    • Reviewing ongoing cases and advising the Legal Manager accordingly.
    • Assisting in maintenance of documentation and legal databases.
    • Ensuring that judgements are processed within five (5) days of receipt, authorized and forwarded to Finance Department. Following up on the payments to avoid executions for which you will be held liable.
    • Ensuring appeal instructions are given ten (10) days before the lapse date and appeal deposits are dispatched seven (7) days before the due date.
    • Ensuring that no costs attributed to execution proceedings due to delayed processing of judgements are incurred by the Company.
    • Regular bring ups on all matters in Court to ensure they are updated.
    • Giving Management opinions on changes in the law that would affect the Company.
    • Attending Court as a witness for the Company.
    • Perusing Court files to establish the position of litigation.
    • Ensuring that emails are responded to/actioned upon within twenty-four (24) hours.
    • Ensuring that insureds are notified of their liability in relation to judgement amounts that are beyond their policy limits within five (5) days of receipt of a judgement and following up on a formal acknowledgement from the insured.
    • Carrying out a detailed handover of matters being handled before proceeding on leave.
    • Submitting a monthly report on the status of the matters allocated to you.
    • Any other duties assigned to you by the Legal Manager that are pertinent to the Legal Department.

    Experience and Knowledge Required

    • A minimum of 2 years post admission working experience within the Insurance sector.
    • An eye for detail, strong organizational skills and able to take responsibility for own workload.
    • Demonstrated integrity and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
    • Must be a team player.

    Academic and Professional Qualifications required

    • Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized institution.
    • Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
    • An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid Practicing Certificate.
    • A registered member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
