    Fundraising Manager

    Main objectives of the role

    Reporting to the Director of Communications and Fundraising (DCF), the individual in this newly created position will be responsible for building a fundraising programme at MSF EA and will be pivotal in inspiring current donors, prospects, and supporters to contribute funds to the organisation. They will be an individual who is deeply motivated by the goal of MSF to deliver medical care to those most in need across the world and will be guided by MSF fundraising principles.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Under the guidance of the DCF, strategizes, implements, and monitors a comprehensive fundraising plan to develop and expand philanthropic support from a variety of sources
    • Cultivates and strengthens existing donor relationships with individuals and actively pursues prospects by using multiple cultivation techniques including one-on-one meetings, events, and other fundraising touchpoints
    • Demonstrates and fosters respectful donor cultivation and stewardship within the team and the organisation
    • Researches, maintains and develops a regional and local list of individuals, foundations, and corporate prospects in the region.
    • Identifies and develops relationships with corporate entities that adhere to the parameters of the MSF EA corporate gift acceptance policy
    • In tandem with the Communications team, manages the grant funding process including the application and drafting of proposals and all necessary follow up
    • In collaboration with the DCF, develops strong relationships within the fundraising and business communities to increase visibility of MSF and to foster financial support and networking potential
    • Manages the day to day work of the engagement officer
    • Collaborates with the engagement officer in organizing events that will raise the visibility of and financial support to MSF EA
    • Under the guidance of the DCF, ensures consistency of messaging in all fundraising communications. Takes the lead in preparing fundraising content and materials to ensure that they are accurate and reflect MSF’s values and principles and that all communications with donors reflect the unique and independent voice of MSF, with final oversight going to the DCF
    • Supports the DCF in identifying and selecting members of a fundraising advisory group which will serve as a networking vehicle for high level donor giving.
    • Identifies donors and prospects for cultivation and stewardship by the General Director of MSF EA. Provides support for these efforts including thorough briefings prior to contact, scheduling logistics, and all necessary follow up
    • Ensures that all donors are thanked for donations within a 3-day timeframe by the appropriate MSF representative
    • Designs strategy for retention of donors which could include scheduled cultivation and solicitation activities
    • Creates a “moves management” cycle for donors and supporters of high capacity
    • Effectively represents and articulates the work of MSF presenting a compelling case for support of the organisation.
    • Primary point of contact for funding, donations and fundraising event inquiries
    • Maintains a complete and accurate database record of donors and funding received with the assistance of the engagement officer
    • Participates in the MSF community working groups and shares lessons learned to the MSF EA and global fundraising team
    • Provides regular reports on the work of the FR team and oversees the team´s budget
    • Remains current on the fundraising market landscape in the region

    Qualifications & competencies Required

    • A Bachelors degree and/or studies in social sciences, finance, administration or a relevant discipline.
    • 3+ years working in a customer service/relationship management environment
    • Analytical skills and experience in creating and tracking budgets
    • Well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate in person and in writing to people from various backgrounds and experiences
    • Ability to inspire trust and confidence in current donors and supporters
    • High level of discretion and an ethical approach to fundraising
    • Initiative and independence combined with the ability to work well as part of a team
    • A commitment to MSF’s mission and values

    Desirable experience

    • 3+ year in fundraising, preferably with a focus on high level donor cultivation and solicitation
    • Knowledge of the local fundraising environment
    • Experience with international relief and development and/or humanitarian organizations desired.

    Career Manager

    General Objective and Job Context

    We are looking for someone proactive and motivated, with attention to detail and quality of work. The Career Manager (CM) should be able to work independently on routine tasks in a fast-paced environment, as well as being able to support the Field HR team when needed. The purpose of the CM will be to support Internationally Mobile Staff (hereafter called IMS) in their Career Development and job placements within MSF. The CM will work closely with the Career Manager Lead of MSF EA and the Pool managers from the different MSF Operational Centres (OC’s), to provide the right human resources for MSFs global operational needs.

    The CM will be reporting hierarchically to the Director of HR & Administration, with a functional link to the Career Management Lead of MSF EA.

    Main responsibilities and tasks

    • Collaborates with Pool managers (PMs) from different OC’s to identify personnel needs, and proactively proposes candidates for placements based on the IMS skills, experience and availability
    • Regularly meets with the PMs to determine the best fit of IMS in the OC and identifies high potentials and leaders. The CM should have a good understanding of the pool dynamics and profiles of the IMS in the East African pool
    • Ensuring that IMS going on their first mission are placed for the MSF preparatory training
    • Oversees briefings and debriefings for departing and returning IMS, ensuring they are linked with relevant colleagues
    • Discusses career management prospects with IMS during briefings e.g. areas of strength and development, drafts development plans according to ambition and capacity
    • Is in regular contact with the IMS regarding any career related topic and placement opportunities and advises on career opportunities within MSF. The CM also Identifies relevant learning and development tools and trainings to ensure IMS have the capacity to take up new challenging roles
    • Highlights profile needs and priorities to the recruitment team and ensures a smooth handover of newly recruited IMS from recruitment to career management
    • Closely working with the Field HR Officer to ensure the IMS database is updated, and shares updates with relevant stakeholders
    • Travel to national and international meetings as required
    • Support’s and respond to local/regional staff mobility/pool needs of the MSF sections.
    • Contributes to HR activities and process improvements

    Selection criteria

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (essential)
    • 2-3 years of relevant working experience in placement and career management (desirable)
    • Fluency in English is essential, French is highly desirable (or the willingness to learn)
    • Experience working abroad, preferably with MSF (desirable)
    • Knowledge of career management and development
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and interviewing skills
    • Flexible, able to manage stress and to work outside of office hours as required
    • Strong team player, ability to work independently

    Water and Sanitation Advisor

    Main Responsibilities and activities

    • Contributes to the development of OCA mission strategies, objectives, activities and resources with field team, HQ operation and medical support teams.
    • Provides technical and strategic support to assigned missions from HQ and through field visits. Also, mentors WatSan field staff in assigned missions.
    • Actively monitors quality of WatSan programmes through reports, (de) briefings, field visits and regular communication with the field and suggest adjustments when required.
    • May contribute to assessment and/or intervention in emergencies as WatSan Co-ordinator in early phases when in the field
    • Contributes to the development of relevant tools (guidelines, evaluations and technical support documents), contributing to emergency preparedness and emergency stocks reviews, design/support of operational research projects and development of vision documents.
    • Gives expert advice and technical support to other specialist colleagues across departments.
    • Develops and facilitates WatSan staff trainings on internal or external training courses or workshops (HQ or field) and ensures knowledge transfer on new policies, strategies, protocols, guidelines.
    • Contributes to the development of the pool of WatSan staff in MSF OCA with a specific focus on eastern African region in order to diversify recruitment of specialists.
    • Explore possibilities of new training sites in Kenya or region and collaborations with relevant institutions.
    • Participates in representing the WatSan team and PHD internally and the organisation externally from a Water and Sanitation perspective.
    • Initiates innovation projects as well as new product development. In collaboration with supply centres in Nairobi develops WatSan specific assortments.
    • Aligns strategies, policies and explore possibilities of mutualisation with counterparts in other MSF sections in the region.

    Candidate Profile

    • University degree in Water and Sanitation, preferably Public Health Engineering or Environmental Health; Master degree is a plus.
    • Minimum 3 years field experience with MSF or other NGO in co-ordinator position in the field of water, hygiene and sanitation;
    • Flexibility to travel and support projects (up to 40% maximum of the job will be spent on project visits);
    • MSF experience is preferred
    • Humanitarian operation and interventions in healthcare settings experiences are a must; affinity with the principles and objectives of MSF’s work;
    • Strong coaching and mentoring skills with adequate learning and development experience to develop content and teach at internal and external courses.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, French and/or Arabic are preferred, (Dutch is not required).
    • A strategic thinker, good team player, flexible, and with good communication skills.
