    Job Description

    • Protecting the consumer against cheating through the use of falsehood in the sale of goods and in the provision of services in the course of trade,
    • Sampling pre-packaged goods for quantitative analysis; preparing testing equipment for inspection and investigation purposes,
    • Preparing weighing and measuring equipment during trade fairs and exhibitions,
    • Ensuring that only the authorized system of units, i.e. The International System of Units (SI) is used in trade in Kenya,
    • Maintenance of standards of weight and measure,
    • Giving evidence in court on cases arising from infringement of the Weights and Measures Act (Cap 513) and Trade Descriptions Act (Cap 505).

    Job Description

    • Calibrating and ensuring proper storage of working standards and testing equipment,
    • Requisition of workshop tools and verify materials,
    • Maintenance of national standards at the Weights and Measures laboratory
    • Formulation and revision of policy that provide legal and technical guide to legal metrology officers in line with international practice
    • Conduct inspection to enforce the requirement of weights and measures Act Cap 513 and the Trade Descriptions Act Cap 505
    • Provide stakeholders awareness throughout the county
    • Gazetted officers will undertake the following duties; conducting prosecution of offences arising from infringement of the Weights and Measures Act (Cap 513), the Trade Descriptions Act (Cap 505) and regulations made thereunder.
