    Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) formally known as Central Artificial Insemination Station (CAIS) was established by Kenya Gazette Notice Number 557 of 19th June 1946 with the objective of controlling venereal diseases and genetic improvement of exotic dairy Cattle. KAGRC is situated 15 km from City Centre (West of the Nairobi City), and has its Headquarters in Lower Kabete in Nairobi and has land capacity of about 358 Acres, 124 bulls in the stud.

    Principal Internal Auditor Kagrc Grade 4

    Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: 

    • Implementing audit strategies, policies and procedures;  
    • Periodical reviewing of systems and controls to give an opinion on their reliability and effectiveness; 
    • Reviewing operations to establish adequacy of the manuals, policies and guidelines that have been put in place to ensure smooth operations while undertaking the mandate of the Centre;  
    • Monitoring and reporting on the Centre’s risk profiling, risk appetite, risk registers and risk management in general; 
    • Supporting various Divisions in risk profiling and mitigation; 
    • Ensuring adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency in risk management processes in line with the mandate and operations of the Centre;   
    • Facilitating development and maintenance of risk registers within the Centre; 
    • Evaluating budget processes to give assurance on compliance and effectiveness of budget systems and controls; 
    • Preparing risk-based annual audit plans for approval by the Audit Committee;  
    • Undertaking specific audit assignments.  

    Person Specifications 
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: - 

    • A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in a Management position; 
    • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Commerce (Finance or Accounting option), Business Administration (Finance and Accounting option) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; 
    • Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Finance, Accounting, Business Administration (Accounting/Finance Option) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; 
    • Registered with a professional body and a member of ICPAK and IIA or its equivalent, and in good standing; 
    • Professional courses CISA, CIA etc 
    • Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; and  
    • Proficiency in computer applications;

    Veterinary Officer, Job Grade Kagrc 6

    Duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:  

    • Breeding Technologies Preparing livestock production reports; 
    • Analyzing livestock inputs and products samples; 
    • Participating in livestock improvement and multiplication; 
    • Undertaking genomic evaluation of livestock; 
    • Developing and updating sire catalogues; and 
    • Collaborating with other officers in carrying out research in breeding and breeding technologies. Gene banking & Conservation 
    • Maintaining a national livestock resources gene bank;  
    • Taking stock of livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all livestock and emerging livestock species in Kenya; 
    • Identification of endangered species;

    • Evaluating and validating animal germplasm; 
    • Processing of germplasm; 
    • Packaging animal germplasm; 
    • Preservation of germplasm; 
    • Ensuring adherence to good veterinary practices; 
    • Training staff and other stakeholders in germplasm processing;  
    • Validating laboratory results and making appropriate recommendations; and 
    • Participating in research activities pertaining to germplasm production. 

    Person Specifications 
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: - 

    • Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; Registered by Kenya Veterinary Board and in good standing; and Proficiency in Computer Application;

    Administration Officer, Kagrc Grade 6

    Duties and responsibilities will entail assisting in:  

    • Initiating the development and implementation of administrative policies, procedures, strategies and programs;  
    • Maintaining grounds and buildings of the Centre; 
    • Managing transport services including motor vehicle/cycle insurance, repair, maintenance and inspection; 
    • Coordinating provision of security services and ensure safety of persons, assets and the work-place environment; 
    • Implementing a healthy and conducive work environment; and 
    • Provision of office accommodation, equipment, telephone and office supplies services. 
    • May be deployed as Personal Assistant in the Office of the Managing Director to perform the following duties; 
    • Organizing and maintaining executive calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating appointments to optimize time and priorities  
    • Arranging travel itineraries, accommodations, and transportation for executives, ensuring seamless logistics  
    • Drafting, editing, and preparing reports, presentations, and correspondence for internal and external stakeholders

    • Standardizing laboratory procedures and reagents;

    Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail assisting in:

    Livestock Attendant Kagrc Grade 10

    Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail assisting in: 

    • Feeding animals; 
    • Taking animals temperature on daily basis and recording of the same; 
    • Cleaning of animals pens and paddocks; 
    • Preparing and presenting animals before germplasm collection; 
    • Reporting any sick animal; 
    • Taking part in animal dipping and vector control activities; 
    • Preparing and presenting animals for vaccination and treatment, parading them when there are visitors; 
    • Ensuring quarantine measures are adhered to; and 
    • Assisting the Veterinary surgeons during postmortems.
