    Field Manager

    Job Description

    Job Title: Field Manager

    Reports to: Field Operations Coordinator 

    Level: Mid-level position with significant growth

    Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience

    Location: Kwale & Kilifi. Komaza Field office with over 90% field work and travel

    About the Role 

    The Field Manager role is appropriate for hard-working professionals who are good at managing several teams to implement projects in the field, and who have a sincere commitment to serving farmers with integrity and positivity. Field Managers are based in the field to manage small rural field offices, and spend most of their time, collaborating with the local administration officials, managing Field Coordination Officers & Field Facilitators in their field activities by giving motivational speeches, provide training & guidelines, answer questions, report on progress, and ensure work is being carried out to a high quality. The Field Manager is also the focal point between the head office management team and the Field Extension Network(FEN).

    As the Field Manager, a typical day might include:

    • Manage the Field Coordination Officers & Field Facilitators under your direct supervision and ensure that they are performing their jobs properly and effectively
    • Regularly visit the FEN staff when working in the field in order to check on the quality of their work and confirm proper execution of work tasks
    • Interact with sub-chiefs, village elders, and other community leaders and groups to secure support of and assistance with the project
    • Monitor & submit weekly reports to the immediate supervisor on the FEN progress and deliverables.
    • Oversee & manage the social marketing, recruitment, planting & maintaining of new & old farms in designated project areas.
    • Hold regular meeting and training with the FENs in their field offices.
    • Organize & train Field Officers & Facilitators in all required technical and behavioral job elements in order to successfully enroll & serve farmers, plant & maintain trees.
    • Lead social marketing efforts in your locations (attend barazas, parent-school days, churches, etc.) to enhance farmer mobilization, recruitment & enrollment.

    This job might be for you, if:

    • You have good Computer skills in MS Office (Word and Excel), internet research and email
    • You can use a smartphone or tablet
    • You have a driving license with experience in riding motorbikes
    • You are motivated, detailed oriented & organized
    • You have experience in community mobilization, and experience in forming self-help groups for various projects is very advantageous.
    • You have good leadership, teamwork and communication skills
    • You are willing to relocate and live within your designated project area.
    • You have experience in the greater Kilifi and/or Ukunda or coastal area and preferably speak and understand Mijikenda languages
    • You have experience in training of trainers

    Payroll and Benefits Officer

    About this role

    Komaza has gotten the basics of HR down. Now the team is moving into its next phase of creating awesome people-centric systems and initiatives. Working closely with the Human Resources Manager, the Payroll & Benefits Officer is directly responsible for attending to any benefits related challenges facing our employees. Payroll, medical and other statutory benefits are the lifeblood of this role. This role requires keen attention to detail and a high degree of integrity as well as an understanding of the human side of the business.

    What You Will Do

    • Administer payroll for 300+ employees on a monthly basis
    • Process advances, deductions, bonuses and loans
    • Generate and distribute payslips
    • Process PAYE, NSSF, NHIF and other statutory requirements
    • Administer health plans, including enrollment and terminations
    • Review and process insurance provider billings
    • Coordinate with insurance companies to resolve employee insurance challenges
    • Maintain payroll records and keep them up to date

    What You Should Have

    • Hold a University Degree in a business related field with an emphasis in Finance/Accounting and a CPA(K) or ACCA
    • Minimum of 3 years post-undergraduate experience in a payroll and benefits processing role
    • Project management skills & proficiency in Payroll Softwares, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
    • Experience in organizations with a minimum workforce base of 250+ staff

    Human Resource Manager

    About this role

    Komaza has gotten the basics of HR down. Now the team is moving into its next phase of creating awesome people-centric systems and initiatives. Working closely with the People Operations Director, the Human Resource Manager is directly responsible for growing and developing the HR team, systems, and policies. In addition, the HR Manager, together with the HR team will transform the HR function into a customer service function. This role requires somebody who has extensive HR experience in East Africa, has the labor laws and other acts at their fingertips and knows how policies can affect the workforce. At the same time, the role requires somebody who is much more than that. Someone who is innovative and people centric. Someone who can look far beyond the “HR Rulebook”.

    What You Will Do

    • Transform the HR function into a customer service function
    • Gather and analyze HR-related data
    • Work directly on reducing absenteeism, churn and increase retention
    • Conduct wage surveys and create salary recommendations
    • Manage health/life and benefit plans
    • Be the head of grievance and investigation panels
    • Process and manage payroll data and benefits for senior management
    • Process immigration-related applications
    • Improve HR systems and policies

    What You Should Have

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field
    • Minimum of 5-8 years post-undergraduate experience in an HR management role
    • In-depth knowledge of the Kenyan labor laws and related acts and HR best practices and innovations
    • Experience in organizations with a minimum workforce base of 300+ staff
    • Experience with BoP employees
    • Experience in white-collar as well as production environments
    • Start-up and/or Social Enterprise experience is definitely an added advantage
